Dr Hanson was my daughter's pediatrician for 13 years. Her father was the one who took her to all her medical appointments because he had a short commute (mine was 90+ min one way) and he had a flexible schedule. Every year since she was 4 years old, teachers would say she needed to be evaluated; she might have a learning disability. We had dedicated parent-teacher conferences to tell us about her school struggles. Multiple times every year I asked her father to set up an appointment to see Dr Hanson for an evaluation. He'd set the appointment, take our daughter and say Dr Hanson said everything was fine. Fast forward to when she was 15. A friend told me to look up adhd in the DSM5. My daughter checked every box. I made an appt with Dr Hanson and the first thing I said when I went to his office was "I think my daughter has ADHD." His answer was "Oh thank god you figured it out." Turns out my ex was lying to everyone the whole time - Dr Hanson, me, our daughter's teachers. Dr. Hanson advised me to use his out-of-network developmental pediatrician to get her evaluated, $6k. I thought it was crazy since we were paying for insurance. I called insurance and every dev pediatrician had a 1+ year wait list. Some were so full there was no wait list. Eventually, I found the in network developmental pediatrician and requested Dr Hanson send a referral to her. He reiterated seeing his out of network friend. I said this developmental pediatrician was in network. This was around March. I waited a month, called Dr. Hanson's office multiple times. They told me to call insurance. I called insurance. After a few days, it seems the office sent in a referral with my daughter's name but no developmental pediatrician's name. I called Dr. Hanson's office and they said they'd resend the paperwork. I was again advised to go with Dr. Hanson's out of network friend. Another month went by, Dr. Hanson's office told me to call insurance. Insurance said this time there was a referral to the developmental pediatrician, but there was no patient name. This reeks of gatekeeping and sabatoge and possibly some other odd dealings where physicians might be getting kickback from friends. After 13 years, I switched pediatricians. It was an absolute cluster. read more

I rember going to Dr Hanson as a child and loved him. If I ever have children of my own, still live in the area and he hasn't retired yet I will be taking them to him. He is a great compassionate man that loves children. read more

Well here we are 15 plus years since we met Dr.Hanson, what an amazing journey , but I always wondered if there was a way we could put all the awesome wisdom & lessons from Dr.Hanson in 1 place for other parents, to cherish as we have, well Dr.Hanson did it again, I was there recently and discovered the book he has written, I was so impressed and took many copies and gifted them to all my friends and family members. I am getting thank you calls over and over from them. I recommend this valuable treasure to all parents . Thank you again Dr.Hanson read more

You won't find a better pediatrician anywhere. He checks on your baby at the hospital hours after they are born. He hand writes notes at every major appointment in a notebook which you keep. He is compassionate and genuinely cares about your child. We love him and highly recommend. read more

The world's best doctor. Truly. He's such a wealth of knowledge. Oh, I could spend an entire day writing about how amazing he is... He came to the hospital the following morning after our children were born; he writes in a little book advices about everything a new parent should know; he writes in the book at every major visit; he doesn't push antibiotics, unless absolutely necessary. Our family loves him very much! read more

Dr Hanson called us on his personal cell phone ON Thanksgiving DAY to check on my son because he was worried about how he was healing. Idk about you but that in itself speaks volumes as to the kind of care Dr Hanson provides. We have been seeing Dr Hanson for over 20 YEARS. From my 20 year old to my 4 month old. Seriously would be so lost without Dr Hansons knowledge, guidance & care. He also showed up on a Saturday the morning after I gave birth and helped advise me with some challenges I was already facing with my newborn. I have no amount words that I can put together in a simple review to say how valuable Dr Hanson has been to my growing family over the years. read more

I was assigned Dr. Hanson as a pediatrician when I was ready to deliver my son at age 40. Not only was I considered to have one foot in the grave to be having a baby this late in life, but I also have certain medical issues that made my case a rather complicated one. Dr. Hanson paid very careful attention to me when I met him before the delivery and was at the hospital way ahead of time when my scheduled C-section took place. My own OB-Gyn was late, but Dr. Hanson was on his toes and ready to help! As a previous reviewer mentioned, Dr. H spends a very long time with you during office visits explaining "What to Expect When..." all the way up to teenage problems, emotional issues, everything under the sun. Dr. Hanson does not always come across as the warm and fuzzy, overly smiling stereotypical pediatrician. This may be off-putting is that is the kind of doctor you seek. If, however, you want a doctor who listens, is knowledgeable and who takes very good notes, this is the doc for you. Dr. Hanson's office does not take my insurance, but I continue to take my son to see him out of my own pocket. After meeting my son on the day he was born and now, twelve years later, I don't feel the need go to any one else for my child's care. read more

Love Love Love this guy. I asked some collegues for a good pediatrician after moving to WC. Struck gold. Dr. Hanson had to do some retro work with us because he hadn't known the kids since birth. Very thorough with family "psych" checks every year. Lets me know how I am doing as a parent through kids eyes. Thank god he was in hospital when my son had his appendix out. Turned out to be swine flu and Dr. Hanson recognized something was wrong within 5 minutes of a visit. He saved my kids life! ps. he is a fantastic artist. read more

Dr. Hanson is an amazing doctor. We have 7.5 month old twin boys. Dr. Hanson has been so thorough in his diagnosis and analysis as well as his referrals to other doctors for our boys. He would have us sit down and listen while he takes notes in the boy's notebooks , and spends on average 45min to an hour explaining what we should expect at what age for the boys. He predicated when to expect the colicky behavior of Pasha to come to a halt, when the eye discharge of Kousha to stop, when the umbilical hernia of Pasha to subside to look like a normal belly button, when to train the boys to sleep through the night and the consequences of not doing so early enough, and so much more. He is the kind of doctor that has made his personal cell phone available and when he receives a text message on a Sunday, he calls you... At about age 6 1/2 months old, our twin boys sleep through the night, thus our sleepless nights are over. Thanks to Dr. Hanson. We are truly fortunate to have Dr. Hanson on our side. We love and respect him dearly. It is rare to get so much personalized attention from health care practitioner these days.... read more

We adore Dr. Hanson & his staff. He spends at least an hour with us for each visit. Telephone calls are always returned promptly. His advice is invaluable! My husband is in the Coast Guard and is scheduled to change duty stations in 2012. Dr. Hanson is one of the main reasons we will try to stay in this area. I don't know what I would do without him! read more

New baby last year, and Dr. Hanson is still my guy for pediatrics. I read Margaret C.'s review, and can understand her frustration, but what she would not know is that the woman who has run Dr. Hanson's office for as long as we've been seeing him had some very serious medical issues right in the timeframe she was seeing him. So, although we haven't experienced any problems, I'm not surprised if there were some mistakes in office administration around that time, especially for new patients. Her experience is DEFINITELY not representative of the over 18 years I have been taking my now three boys to Dr. Hanson. read more

Sob! My daughter just had one last appointment with Dr. Hanson before she leaves for college. About 18 years ago, Dr. Hanson was following me down the hall of John Muir's maternity hallways all ready giving me priceless neonatal advice. When she was about six and had what we thought were insect bites around her collarbone, Dr. Hanson immediately suspected metal allergy and asked whether she had been wearing jewelry. Yup. A Barbie necklace was the culprit. Dr. Hanson is an ace diagnostician, kind, caring and a fount of parenting wisdom. They don't make doctors like this anymore. He is the best. The real deal. read more

He is the best! You know that old-fashioned, salt-of-the earth kind of doctor? The one you think of when you see old Norman Rockwell pictures or the Little Golden Book series? That's Dr. Hanson. He takes the time to educate you about your child on every annual visit and takes handwritten notes that he then gives you to keep. Who does that? I'm a doctor and I frankly can't do that. (You'd never be able to read my notes) He is kind, compassionate and incredibly patient. He is also always up-to-date with the latest information and is a wealth of advice on parenting and emotional support. You won't find a better pediatrician anywhere. read more

Dr. Hanson is wonderful. We found a review for him after moving here 2 years ago that looked favorable so we decided to try him. He spends such an incredible amount of time with each patient, you know he really cares and isn't in it for the money. All my boys love him. His staff is excellent. When I have to bring more than 1 child, they will watch the other child up front and give him crayons, etc. to keep him busy. And there are always stickers on the way out. I am sure he will retire one day and it will be a loss to pediatrics. read more

Dr. Hanson has always taken such great care of my kids that I chose to keep him when I moved to Solano County. I cried the day I moved to Placer County and had to pick a new doctor for my kids. He is caring and thorough. I once called with a potentially serious problem on a Friday. He told me to come in first thing Monday morning (it was a holiday weekend, he didn't want to spoil it for the kids with the drive and office visit). BUT, he called me early on Saturday morning to ask me to meet him at the hospital. He wanted an MRI to rule out anything neurological. He said he hadn't slept and didn't want to risk waiting until Monday. He really cares about his patient's. And don't forget Rose and Susie!! What a great team! read more

Fabulous pediatrician. Same day appts, same staff for years and years. His wife, Mrs. Hanson always remembers us. My son has asthma/allergies, I don't feel like I need to go over the medical history with him, he remembers. He is a master diagnoser. As far as the 1 star review goes, Margaret C, you have given a review for the wrong dr. I have never had a billing problem, the staff are not idiots. read more

Great doctor! Took my college age daughter in to rid her ears of built up wax after she got some pool water stuck in there. He was thorough, professional and gentle. Explained every step to her before taken action. Wish I still had kids at home to give him more business. read more

Dr Hanson is the best. We have twins and we have been with him since their birth, 16 years ago, based on the recommendation of my brother & sister-in-law (3 girls). He is a no nonsense doctor with years of experience. He does not take any shortcuts or down play any concerns. Dr Hanson has guided the family through all stages of child development, what to watch for & what to avoid. We are always amazed on how he can describe an upcoming life change and BAM, it happens. He has a wonderful staff, too! Thank you, Dr. Hanson!! read more

My pediatrician gave me Dr Hanson's name when I was pregnant with my first child. He met with us for over an hour just when we were interviewing him. I now have two children and we unfortunately spend alot of our time at the office. There are so many wonderful things I can say but the top things are the staff, quality of time spent with our family and the care we our given. I would recommend Dr Hanson! read more

Nowadays there isn't a profession out there that looks out for you or one that you can trust. Be it an auto mechanic, a lawyer and especially a doctor. They are all out there to squeeze every penny out of you. Dr. Hanson is one of those rare doctors that truly cares. He is not motivated by money but rather how healthy your kid is doing. Thank you Dr. Hanson for always being there for our son. read more

I cannot imagine a better pediatrician than Dr. Hanson. I have had both my children in his care for four years now and that was never a time when I had any reason to complain or feel that I was not getting the best of care for both of them. He takes time to listen to your concerns and spends at least half an hour on any appointment; you never feel rushed out the door as is the case in other offices. I also want to make it clear that Margret C.'s review does not in any way reflect our experience. The quality of care he provides is outstanding! read more

Dr. Hanson has been a valued member of our family for the past 14 years. He cares truly for the overall well being of child and family. He has guided us through the ups and downs of infancy, the frantic toddler years, pre teens and so on. His advice and genuine concern have made the journey all the better. His staff has seen very little turn over through the years. They know who you are when you call and if you need to be seen they make it happen. Dr. Hanson is no nonsense and to the point. He wants the best for your child and for the family as a whole. I often lament the fact that I am ineligible for treatment in a pediatric office, I would give anything to have him as my own personal physician. Thank you Dr. Hanson. read more

Always a professional and reassuring experience. Dr. Hanson is one of the best pediatrics MD we've been to with our kids. We're already 5 years his patients with our 2 boys, now 9 and 6. Always patient, listening carefully and then explaining to us the reason for his treatment in a very clear and simple manner. He always brings advice about ways how to grow and keep healthy, often handwritten on pages while we're still in the cabinet. We like his wisdom and professionalism. Thank you for your care, Dr. Hanson! read more

I love, Love, LOVE Dr. Hanson-he is the BEST doctor I have ever encountered-EVER! His knowledge, expertise, experience, and patience (especially for this 'Nervous Nelly' new mom) are immeasurable-how many doctors do you know freely and willingly spend over an hour discussing your child's health, progress, and well being?-even routine ear checks, etc. are thorough-NOT the in/out in two minutes you experience elsewhere. He is also available over the phone to answer questions/concerns you may have and responds in a timely manner if he is with a patient when you call. If I had any complaints it would only be that I wish he was a family practice doctor, because both my husband and I would love to have him as our own doctor as well. Yes, he is that good. As selfish as this sounds, I really hope he doesn't retire anytime soon-we look forward to having our son grow up with Dr. Hanson as his primary and only pediatrician. read more

Dr. Hanson not only cared for my children, he has helped me become a secure informed parent. When my daughter was born in 1989 he took care of both of us from day one. Actually my husband and I met with Dr. Hanson before she was born and he gave us valuable information to make decisions regarding infant care before we were offically his patients! Dr. Hanson keeps up on the latest medical information and always used his experience when diagnosing and making recommendations. I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone. read more

Dr. Hanson has been my kids' doctor since they were born (11 and 9 years ago). He is caring and compassionate and extremely thorough. He strongly advocates for each child to make sure each receives proper care. I've learned so much from Dr. Hanson over the years, and I have so much gratitude for the time he has spent with us. His insights are invaluable, not only from a health standpoint, but from a developmental one as well. He has definitely contributed to me being a better parent to my children. I know several other parents whose children see Dr. Hanson, and we all agree that our children are very fortunate to have him as their Pediatrician. read more

He's one of the best Dr's providing outstanding care for little blessings. I am thankful we have found him for our Son.

I just had a baby September and since it was our first baby we interviewed many pediatricians before choosing the "right" one for us. When we first met Dr. Hanson we didnt think "oh yes this is definitely the guy" as he doesn't come across as "cute & Cuddly" like many of the other pediatricians. However, after sitting with him and talking for several minutes we knew without a doubt he would be our pick. He takes the time to answer any questions, gives you his take and philosophy on pediatrics, and anytime I call he always responds to my phone call by the end of the day. We have been going to him for 3 months now and his advice is invaluable! He spends at least an hour with us at every visit, and even takes notes for me! In this day in age that is so rare to find in a doctor, most doctors want you in and out the door so they can take the net patient. Not dr. Hanson, he takes his time, is incredibly thorough and sooo knowledgeable! He is older and has many years of experience, but also stays on top of all the new research and is very up to date on the latest medical research, and also very practical. He is wonderful and I cannot say enough great things about him! I am so glad I trusted him with our new son. His staff is also great and so helpful! read more

Dr. Hanson was my pediatrician since I was born. He is now my son's pediatrician... and is still my 22 year old little brothers lol. My family has total confidence and trust in Dr. Hanson. He spends around an hour with you at every appointment, answering questions and going over safety and health. The office has an old school charm, so don't expect any flat screens or game boys when you walk in. In fact, the office still has the same wall art, toys, and wall paint since I was a kid. Dr. Hanson still writes everything down by hand and actually looks at you when you talk, rather than down at a screen. There is a personal touch here that has become defective in part of the medical field. Everyone in the office is courteous, friendly and professional. The few times we had any concern, Dr. Hanson made time in his schedule to see my son THE SAME DAY. My only concern is that Dr. Hanson will retire before my other children are born hah. read more

I delivered 2 weeks early and had not yet confirmed my pediatrician so I had Dr. Hanson assigned for my new baby for care. He does spend an inordinant amount of time with you at bedside but its way too much to process (I just had a baby...was tired... he asked me to stay attentive... ) and he did the circumcision and recommended that we didn't attend, and did a poor job. And this was after he told us that he hasn't had an operation go bad for over 30 years... Our pediatirian we did go with took one look at it and knew it had to be adjusted. We had to have a second operation within 1-2 weeks. Terrible ordeal. Finally - the billing office is a joke! Everyone of the doctors got paid on time and in full but THEY COULD NOT GET THE BILLING RIGHT FOR 7 MONTHS AND KEPT OVERCHARGING ME BY 100S OF DOLLARS! They got the wrong member ID so it kept getting denied. They said the hospital gave it to them wrong (yet everyone else got it right) they finally got it corrected and rebilled. Then I got a bill again and they overcharged me by over 200 dollars because they didn't adjust the allowed amount for the circumsicion. They took the time to put florescent stickers all over the bill saying past due, you need to pay your share - but they didn't bill audit to see if the right bill went out to me. They made me call my insurance when they had the right EOB the whole time. To boot - they charged me FINANCE CHARGES on the bill even though it was their mistake from DAY 1! I'm already taking care of a baby and had I not audited the bill - these people would have been paid an addition $200 dollars out of my pocket in this economy for a poor service that needed to be done again. Amazing. Just check your bills - these people are idiots.... read more

This was the worst experience I've ever had in a doctors office. My husband and I were traumatized by our visit. I can not believe that Dr Hanson is a pediatrician. He has the worst bedside manner. Not being that personable is one thing but being rough to a point where it is violent is another thing entirely. He roughly jabbed my babies abdomen and also pushed the hips very hard toward the examining table multiple times. As she wailed he said "oh she didn't like that" and continued to do it. He shoved the tongue depressor in my babies mouth so forceful and deep that she gagged and had a hard time catching her breath. My husband and I were so shocked and it was all happening so quickly that we didn't stop him and leave immediately. We have the most happy baby and I can tell you that she has only cried like she did at that visit less than a handful of times (when getting vaccines, etc). Now my husband and I are having to deal with the guilt and the fear that he may have done damage. I was so worried that I even contacted another pediatricians office. I will never go to this office again and want to spread the word so that no one else has to endure this kind of heart ache. As a parent that wants the best for their children I can honestly tell you I feel that I made a mistake by not stopping him right away and leaving. At all other wellness visits no pediatrician has ever been this forceful or inconsiderate of the child. We also have two other children. It is as if he was having a frustrating day and taking it out on our baby. My husband and I are both pretty easy going people and have never felt so compelled to right a review before. It takes a lot for us to write a negative review. He did spend a lot of time with us and gave us a lot of suggestions and information but all of that was hard to swallow when we were still trying to digest what had just taken place during the exam part of the visit. Maybe we were the unlucky family that got his bad day but no doctor should ever treat a patient like that. read more

Dr. Hanson has been the pediatrician for my three children since 2005 when my eldest son was born. As a new parent with no infant care experience, he came to the hospital and gave me detailed and wonderful advice about feeding & caring for both my baby and for myself. He helped me understand the challenges of being a new Mom and gave advice to help manage them. For every well-baby appointment, Dr. Hanson explains both developmental and behavioral milestones for your child & children. He teaches good parenting techniques that taught me how to be a better Mom, how to respond to my kids' illnesses, and how to build loving relationships with them. You can call his office with a question and HE will call you back, always prompt and sincere. The office staff is also very helpful and friendly. Dr. Hanson is thorough and very knowledgeable about current medical practices, but also uses his experience to determine the course of treatment, whether it be an ear infection, vaccinations, behavioral issues, etc. I recommend Dr. Hanson to anyone looking for a pediatrician who truly gets to know his patients and gives you personal care, whether you have a new baby or a teenager. Dr. Hanson is an excellent pediatrician we my kids' love him, as do I. read more
