Good tunes from Gonzo and the LLSS, great shows!!

We came here to play pool and we ended up staying for a few hours, they had a live band which was great, people were dancing and having a good time. There are ups and downs to this place, the lady's room line was very long all the way to the bar, the place feels small and you end up hitting people while playing pool. We had a good time drinking a few beers, shooting some pool and listening to some music before heading to the more serious bars in downtown Pomona. read more

This place is awesome if you just want to unwind and have a good time.... Very diverse on Fridays afternoons you get a diverse crown everything from regulars to college students... This place is a dump! The men's restroom looks like something out of saw, the whole place is kinda a dump won't be going back. Someone needs to buy this place and remodel it! I really don't understand all the bad reviews for Characters. My experience there was fantastic! I was in the Pomona area visiting a few weeks back, and someone suggested I check out Characters. I certainly wasn't sorry I went! All of the bartenders are fabulous, most especially the little blond Jodi! She totally gets what customer service means! Great drinks, great atmosphere, great time! This certain establishment can't take care of their customer's concerns appropriately & fairly. If you don't mind getting headbutted by a drunk customer (who was being rude to the bands' music); If you don't mind getting kicked out and yelled at for bringing that issue up to the bartender instead of the drunk dude who was causing the trouble, then this is the place for you. I understand the drunk dude is a paying customer possibly their best customer, but we were also customers And part of the Entertainment. She wanted to excuse the drunk for his behavior(after headbutting my friend) and yelled at us for telling her what happened and asking her to handle it. I feel the situation was handled by the management very poorly. In addition, there is no stage to play on at all, no lighting, not a great selection of beer, mediocre sound, incompetent security (one of which on another occasion was just laughing while one of my friends had to get some drunk off her car in their parking lot). They need to have better customer service and managent. read more

Negative stars for this dump i havent been here in 5years and realized why i never came back. From the get go bouncer was cursing at everyone and tossing chairs acting aggressive for no reason then besides the continued disrespectfullnes at 45 till closing the fatter bouncer was snatching beers out of peoples hands telling them to GET THE FUCK OUT!! And they were still selling beers last call!!! And i mean yelling in your face threatingly to everyone GET THE FUCK OUT!! Even got in this chicks face like he was gonna beat her up cause she was trying to finish her beer they jus sold her but he said he didnt give a fuck if they sold her it jus now" fuckin leave bitch" dude she was terriffied..never seen so much disrespect to a crowd that was causing no trouble at all. If I could give them less than zero stars, I totally would! Characters' is by far the WORST bar you could ever hope to attend. Tonight was our first night there, and we were enjoying the rockabilly bands until my husband was asked to move out of his seat (that he had been occupying for a while) for a "regular" to sit in. When my husband started asking questions on why he had to move out of the seat he was sitting in, the bouncers (3 bouncers) stated jumping him with no probable cause. The police were then called to quell the situation and MY husband was arrested for disturbing the peace LOL. The police told me and my husband to file assault and battery charges against the bouncers once the PD opened the next day at 8am. When I spoke to the bartender to ask about the details of what had transpired, they advised that they asked my husband to move out of his seat for a "regular", and things escalated from there. I would HIGHLY advise against anyone coming to this place unless they are a slum lord "regulars" for fear that you will be physically assaulted and battered by the overzealous bouncers that don't seem to care about facts prior to taking physical actions. This place screams civil law suit. We WILL see them in court. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!!!!! read more

Red headed bartender charged my buddy and I $78 for about 6 beers and maybe 1 mixed drink. Clearly taking advantage of customers while intoxicated. 2nd time this happens, 1st time, i thought it was pricey, i paid, but this last time it was definite. Same bartender too. read more

Hate to complain when the other customers are the problems. But when you find out the other customers that are a pain work there at times that is the problem. Not to mention the shady activity. This bar is located in one of the best parts of Pomona. I've been to this bar about a dozen times and it gets better every time I go back. The drinks are priced right and the service is great, beers come quick and the cocktails stiff. If you are thinking of checking this place out... its a must. Awesome place to hang out on any given night. Cheap drinks, DJ on certain nights, live music on certain nights, and some interesting people...It's Pomona. Nuff said. Oh, and the bartenders are the BEST! Jess and Randy are super friendly and are very generous when mixing a drink. I was there last night playing beer pong on one end of the bar while people were dancing on the other. Big ups to the DJ also. read more

I visited this subpar establishment a few weeks back. I was shock not to see any homeless both inside and outside of this place, but I did see a crack hooker making rounds up and down the bar and at one point she asked me a question in which I replied, "I have no fucking clue what you just said." That wasn't actually what I said, but you get the idea. There were two bartenders working, one female and one male. The female looked awesome, but her service fuck up everything. She had me waited a good five minutes to notice that the other bartender hadn't taken my order. Apart from that, the place is decent. Nothing exciting, just plain and cheap. The crowd on that day was a mixture of 20s, 30s, 50s, and 60s year olds. read more

I love Characters. It is a "dive bar" and has pool, darts, a great patio area and lots of live music. Everyone is really friendly. It's mostly locals, but there are a few of us college kids that hang out there. The owner is very nice, the bartenders are, too. On the weekends there is a LOT of dancing and drunk regulars, but it's very laid back. The drinks are decently priced, though I have found that the glass house bar can be slightly less expensive--but Characters is waaaay less pretentious. They must be racist because someone else had already purchased a ticket for me and my hubby had already told the bouncer that. The big and tall security kept passing by me trying to intimidate me, a slender woman, even though I was standing outside not bothering and not in anyone's way either anybody, waiting for my hubby who was still playing onstage to come outside. I still supported the band from outside which I was able to hear from outside the gate. I didn't stay inside because I wouldn't be able to hear a thing otherwise! The show was in the back patio which I should have been allowed into.\m/ Even though the security was being a jerk to me for no reason, who I don't know and have never met in my entire life! It makes me wonder why?? Is it because I'm like the only Latina there?!?! I like to think not because I like to give people the benefit of the doubt...but then why If I never gave him any reason to! I'm upset about this because in the end they didn't want to give a refund! We came all the way from Vegas and almost died to go to this show so my hubby can play... I can't believe the security was rude to me when he checked my I. D. too he was disrespectful for no reason! He said something that I would expect from a bitch not a MAN! read more
