Though, the website does not bother me as much so long as I rely on Yelp, but having an updated website helps tremendously. The Jersey Burger was prepared for within the appropriate amount of time, and eating it within the ambiance of the bar definitely fit, almost as though I started losing myself into the Jersey Burger. The service involved managed to get the food right. As such, I can say that the experience felt meaningful and I did not regret coming there. The ambiance reflects bar brand without showcasing it as a seedy hive of villainy. Waiting for the food did not feel cumbersome, and the staff make you feel at home. I can't even remember the last time I had been to the Chapter House. Must have been back in the 4th or 5th grade but boy was I impressed! The Chapter House aka "The Essence of Howell". This resturant has it all: friendly staff, comforting tasty, flavorful food, good music, reasonable prices and a welcoming atmosphere. Not to mention this is the local Howell joint that people go to! If that doesn't say enough about the "Chapter House" I don't know what does!? My friend and I ordered a few dishes to split. I started with the New England clam chowder. It was your typical clam chowder but it was hot and tasty to have on a cold evening. We then got our appetizers: a Chicken & Cheese Quesadilla and the Bonzai Shrimp. I LOVED the Bonzai shrimp. It was extremely tasty with the perfect spice kick! The Chicken & Cheese Quesadilla had the perfect cheese to chicken ratio! We then ordered the penne vodka for our entree and it was TERRIFIC! You would never believe that a little resturant off Route 9 would have a delicious vodka sauce but they certainly do! They load up the penne vodka with extra cheese which makes it just that more scrumptious!! HOWELL: The Chapter House has been a staple restaurant of the town for almost 30 years and they have recently improved their outdoor patio! Friendly, leashed dogs are allowed outside! There is a heater and, when the weather is better, there is a tent! The food is delicious and the menu is huge with a variety of casual/American-style food. There's also a nice selection of beers including some local breweries and cocktails. We had fun celebrating St. Patrick's Day with our awesome waiter, Rory, and talking with all the friendly staff! They made us wait 20 minutes (I'm not exaggerating) I was standing to be seated with my elderly she's 80 years of age, but they never came to seat us.. till we finally had enough, left and went to Tommy's Brew & Tavern instead, where they treat their patrons with respect. Also, from a previous time we ate there, Chapter House food is not that great anymore, food is getting worse, greasy as a cheap diner, so in a sense they did us a favor not to seat us 'cause we went to Tommy's instead where their food is always good and consistent quality service. While Drew is always on point, as a "Sports Bar" bartender, he should have managed the TV's better. All 18 TV's should not be showing basketball (all 18 tv's...I hate basketball). Last night there were several NHL games, a number of college football games, and even horse racing that could have been televised. The (primarily RAP) music was too loud to the point that we could not have a conversation at the bar. And the infestation of fruit flies needs to be addressed and resolved. I haven't been here in maybe 4 or 5 years but never reviewed it before. When I walked in I was fairly shocked because they completely rearranged the interior. There is a very large rectangular bar where before was kind of odd bar setup; this is much better. I noticed a local and friendly crowd at the bar. I didn't expect much but was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere in there and the friendliness of the bar staff. The food was decent too considering it's mostly bar food, but entrées are available. I liked the tap selection with several craft offerings including NJ beers. We shared the calamari, which was average. I tried a piece of thin crust pizza and found it very good. I ordered a buffalo chicken wrap with potato salad which was also very good. Popped into this establishment for the first time yesterday and I likely won't be back. As a female that stopped in alone to grab a cocktail and check out the menu, I'll start by saying the parking lot was the darkest parking lot ever!!!!! Hardly any functional lighting at all and it backs to the woods which made it feel even that much less safe. If it was dark when I arrived I definitely wouldn't have gone inside. The bartender was friendly but they lacked attentiveness to the point where they forgot the patron next to me placed an order for food some 45 minutes prior. I sipped 2 cocktails and decided to place a to go order. Nothing fancy...just wings, potatoes, and soup. Well ...the food was just awful. The soup had strange texture and the wings (which I requested well done) were wet, rubbery and the flavor of the chicken (not the sauce which I asked for on the side) left something to be desired. I legitimately put over 1/2 of the food in the trash. The other 1/2 was a combination of my dog's devouring the potatoes and me trying to spruce it up to make it edible. They won't see me again, but if the owner of this place reads this you heard it here first...your parking lot is a safety issue!!!! read more

I would like to preface this review by saying that the majority of the employees here are wonderful people who do a great job and make sure you're well taken care of. That being said, the management of the restaurant clearly doesn't care that much about the quality of the food being produced from the kitchen. I was a regular at this place for a long while, and after sampling the menu, settled on the 3- 4 menu items that were safe to eat. From overcooked and tough steaks that I ordered RARE, to poorly prepared specials (including clams breaded in grits?!?; Who does that??) you are safer looking elsewhere to get something to eat. Not to mention the small handful of servers who clearly don't care about your dining experience and make it seem like it's a CHORE to wait on you. Drink at the chapter house are also quite expensive being that you pay $8 for a shot of Jameson, which is the most expensive in the area, as well as 4.25 for a Budweiser. During the quarantine you'll be served beers in undersized plastic cups and shots poured in to-go salad dressing containers. If you plan on going here, just understand what you will receive; a poorly cooked meal from a poorly ran kitchen served by potentially rude staff, currently in a parking lot. My recommendation is to seek better places to eat, such as The Cabin, The Court Jester, Moore's Tavern, or Woodys. I would also like to mention that, as a regular I've noticed quite a few of these reviews are written by employees of this business. Which is a poor attempt at passing off this mediocre (if you can even call it that) restaurant as something better than it is. Drive the extra few minutes and find somewhere who cares. read more

The atmosphere is very bright, more of a family dining setting during dinner time. It's not a place with a real romantic flare. The is a large bar area, that seems lively and bright. There is a separate restaurant area, you have a mood choice. The food is pretty good. I've visited twice, tonight, i had the mussels with marinara sauce that came with great grilled garlic bread. My waiter Ryan was attentive, pleasant and friendly. He recommended the bahama mama, a great choice! I also tried the seafood platter, it needed moe seasoning for my palate. The soup was good for the most part but could have definitely used a little more flavoring. The panini was great and the fries were nice and crispy. We live in Howell and go to Chapter House often. My last visit will be tonight's. I ordered a French onion soup and side salad because that was what I wanted. It was really good. We ordered apple crisp for dessert. My brother informed the server he couldn't eat dairy and it was great because Sean served the ice cream in a separate bowl on the side. My brother and I both agreed it was rotten. Instead of apologizing, the waiter said we shouldn't have ordered something we didn't like. I love apple crisp but it was at least a few months expired. We both have work tomorrow and will most likely have food poisoning. Went here today for lunch with a friend. He owed me a lunch and suggested we stop at the Chapter House. IV eaten here once before with my family. It was ok. Wasn't sure what I wanted to eat. Decided on a lunch special item. It was the applewood smoked bacon BLT for $6.00. Well all I can say is when they served me my sandwich it looked like they left the bacon in the smoker all night. I'm joking I know they don't smoke their bacon here but the bacon was a dark brown and black. So I sat there and watched my friend eat. The waiter came back 15 minutes later and asked what was wrong. I had the bread off the sandwich. I'm thinking you can't tell? I have to tell you? So I did and he apologized and said he'd be back with a new sandwich. This is your standard tavern and grill. Good selection of beer, but I was a little thrown off by their not having brought in any fall beers by now when everyone else was. There always seems to be a tap or two that has kicked, but they leave it on the menu. This annoys me. Cross it off or make a mark. The food is standard, tavern burgers and nachos. They run specials all during the week. The men's room is very small two people max. They need a towel dispenser or a better hand dryer. Waitress service is pretty good there but if the place is busy and depending on who you get you might get forgotten for a short time. We went one time and they came out with my order wrong from the kitchen - THREE TIMES! So annoyed the last time, and starving, I just had to eat it. The manager was nice enough to come over apologize about it and take it off the bill. Then the hostess announced 25 mns wait, while tons of people were leaving the restaurant. We could see empty tables or waitresses cleaning tables. Had a reunion with old friends last night and someone picked this place. I had passed it before but had no reason to try it. So 5 of us got together and go there very early. Even so it took a while for our food to come out. The food was uninspired. My old buddy had a blue cheese burger, as far as I know was ok. My other pal had filet mignon sliders that he seemed to like. My friends sister had boneless wings. The portion was large and she liked their flavor. My oldest friend had a chicken Cesar wrap, he said it wasn't good. I had the chicken sandwich, and they accommodated my special order. I dropped the onions, had the bbq sauce on the side, added chipotle mayonnaise and bacon. It wasn't too bad but the chicken portion was small. Service was friendly and accommodating of special requests (thought I was with some regulars so your mileage may vary). Nachos were the favorite in my group (three of six ordered them before we swapped for some sliders). If you read my other reviews, you will see that I don't like to give poor reviews to locally owned businesses. When something is wrong, I try to correct the problem with a manager or owner. However, when that person simply denies away the issue, it may be good to warn others. My wife got violently ill, and was immobalized for two days, from something she at or drank at Chapter House. She got sick while we were still in the restaurant, which forced her stay in the ladies room for over an hour before we could get her into the car. At first, we though she had too much to drink. It was only two martinis. However, she stayed sick in bed, and had to miss work, for two days before recovering. It was clearly food poisoning. When I realized that something she ate or drank made her sick, I call and spoke with the manager. He simply denied that anything was bad at the restaurant. She is like a picky child who refuses to eat at every single restaurant just to piss you off. She was just plain rude and unprofessional. We ordered our drinks and it was like we were bothering her....Hellooo did you ever hear of customer service? It then looked as though she was talking about us to other people. As they all were looking at us at the same time as she was in their area. Anyways, I thought maybe she was having a bad day? I would be friendly to her and see what reaction I got. YIKES!! Wrong move on my part. I asked her how her day was going and got back the most fake smile and sarcastic "GREAT!" She then proceeded to throw our ticket at us. Not even looking up at us as we said "thank you." RUDE RUDE RUDE RUDE!!! I told my friend that we should leave, as this place and the service was just terrible. I was once a server and know that sometimes you may not be that cordial because you are slammed, she was anything but slammed. She had enough time to sit and stuff her face with the popcorn and walk endlessly around the bar in her yoga pants. She was just so unproffesional. From the attitude, to the cranky look on her face, to her uniform. We ended up closing our check out and I left her a .26 cent tip. I have only done that 3 times in my life, this being the third time. I can tolerate alot when going out and I'm usually the overtipper in my group. Not this time.
