Many Greek Orthodox priests in the Southland recommended him, so naturally, followed the their recommendations. Terry and his wife Mary seemed empathetic and kind when they arrived at our home for the first meeting. But, subsequent interactions were questionable. During our second meeting, I knew we had made a mistake. Terry tried to up-charge us on everything. I thought, "I guess you expect that from this industry and it was too late to change course." My husband and my BIL requested that Terry not use heavy makeup on my MIL. Seems like a simple request, but Terry did the exact opposite. My MIL looked like Tammy Faye at her open casket funeral. It was upsetting to see her look like that for the final time, and, disrespectful to the family. Not only so, others commented how she different she looked. After the funeral, Terry's final bill arrived. There was a $650 "flowers" line item, amidst the other charges. The big problem is that Terry said he would "throw in the flowers." My husband was grieving and planning on blindly paying his final bill. Glad I checked all Terry's "charges." When I spoke with Terry on the phone, he angrily said to me, "I must mailed you someone else's bill." Really, with the same address, same name of deceased, etc. And, why are you upset with me? He tried to extract some extra money from my mourning husband! I wonder how many others have paid extra "bogus fees" in the midst of their trauma. We paid him for 4-5 (?) death certificates; but, he failed to provide them. He gave us excuse after excuse. Eventually, Terry started lying about the City of Long Beach's death certificate policies. My husband drove to Downtown LB, paid for 4 more, and picked up new certificates. We were never reimbursed for the certificates, of course. After all this, Terry had the audacity to ask me if we wanted to buy a headstone from him. Of course not! I found another local company, Panda Memorials, and they did a wonderful job for a thousand less. They handled all the details with Forest Lawn and even fabricated it with a custom design. And then there were details that were mishandled: -Terry forgot to place my MIL and FIL's Stefana in the casket -Terry printed the incorrect Icon cards. We requested the Panagia and he printed the Icon of Christ. Still beautiful, but incorrect. -I'm sure there are more, but it was 3 years ago now. Today, 3/7/22, I noticed the family of a dear friend is using Terry for her funeral. What a shame her family doesn't know. I had to speak up. read more

We used Chapman for a viewing and memorial with a small group of family and friends . Cameron was so nice and accommodating. He helped us with everything from setting up all the arrangements to picking a package that was affordable and fulfilled all our needs. Even though it was a sad event we were made to feel as comfortable as possible. The Home is beautiful and works good for a gathering of 50 or less.. We scheduled an hour for a private memorial with close friends and family and had the other 2 hours for everyone else. I am writing to commend Monika Svoboda on her professionalism, knowledge and kind patience in preparing the funeral service life insurance policy for my mother. My mother asked that I review the contracts involving the Insurance Company and that I be present for the meeting with Monika to go over said agreements. Monika came to the meeting well prepared to discuss the contracts for purchasing my mother's funeral arrangement through Chapman Funeral Homes. My mother had many questions and was not certain of the payment process involving life insurance. Monika was very patient and understanding and covered the details of the contract, placing my mother's mind at ease, and ensuring I too was in agreement. I don't know what we would have done had we not gone with Chapman Funeral Homes for my Father In-Law's passing. Terry and his staff were truly amazing. They were all so patient and kind as we tried to navigate what needed to be done. Terry was easy to reach via phone and email and was there to answer all my questions (and there were a ton of them). The home that they operate out of is a historic home in Old Town Orange built in the 1930's and the home itself is a work of art. The set up for the viewing was beautiful, and they took excellent care of my Father In-Law. You can tell they take great care and respect of our loved ones when they are in their care and that in itself was a huge relief. When you look at the smiling faces of Terry Harmon, and his lovely Wife Mary, you sense a warm caring feeling. However in reality, looks can be deceiving. I have had experience with this man in the immediate past, and I will write, that once you get past his narcissistic ego, it can be quite an experience. My one star given are for those families that will experience his, lack of empathy for their loss, and the joy he gets of the profits he makes. The mortuary itself is beautiful, the hired help, is acceptable, Terry's wife Mary, is compassionate. The prices are fair, the services are fair, the problem is,Terry Harmon. If you take him out the equation, you have a fairly decent mortuary to work with. Read his defensive comments in response to the people that have expressed their concerns and opinions based on their respective experiences. PLEASE do your due diligence on Terry Harmon, before you do business with him, in my humble opinion. I did, and found some very disturbing information. Posting that information would not be prudent. Outside of the mortuary business, Terry is most likely a nice person. Inside the business, it's a "crapshoot". Granted, you cannot please everyone, but at least have the human decency to be kind in your responses. Would I use the services of Terry Harmon?. No, I would not, but that is my choice, not yours. Do not solely base your choice on what I have written on this website, make your own decision based on what you discover. Ask questions, take your time, get a clear understanding of what you wish for, and have it written out in legible print. There are so many funeral homes to choose from, so take your time and shop around, listen for the silent cues that are offered by the person on the other side of the phone and or desk. It's so difficult to make decisions when someone you loved so much has passed away. The last thing that needs to ad to your grief is a funeral home that has no true understanding of your pain. Is Chapman Funeral Home the place for your service? Well, the choice is yours. Once you have done your complete due diligence and made your choice to use Chapman Mortuary, you have no right to complain on this website, unless the service rules changed on you. If you received service that satisfied you, then by all means, tell the internet world! My wife's desire when she died was to have a green burial. When she passed in our local medical center's ICU, I first called Earth Funeral who provides a green soil conversion process. These types of burials are now technically legal in CA, but the law does not take effect until 2027. This meant my wife's remains needed to be forwarded to Seattle where Earth Funeral is based, and can provide the service. I was still required to engage a local funeral home in order to pick my wife's body up from the hospital, process the legal paperwork -- including death certificate -- and work with Earth Funeral on the air transportation to Sea-Tac. Earth Funeral provided me a list of local FH's and the prices for the required services. Chapman was close enough and had one of the lowest prices. I called Chapman on Sunday afternoon, left a voicemail, and was called back just a couple minutes later by Cameron K. He explained everything that needed to be done, and directed me to their online portal to fill out the initial order. Once that was done, I filled out all the necessary legal paperwork online. Chapman and Earth Funeral worked to arrange the flight to Seattle and my wife's remains arrived in Seattle 5 days later as I had been advised. As of this writing, all that remains on Chapman's part is the receipt of the death certificates ordered. I don't have any knowledge of the business's past issues alleged in other reviews here. I can honestly and clearly state that Cameron was respectful, honest, and efficient as was the whole process from start to finish. read more

We reached out to Cameron about 9 months ago when we were gathering info & "interviewing" funeral homes, as my 92 year old mother wanted to make sure her arrangements for cremation were all finalized (in spite of the fact that she was pretty darn healthy!). Cameron was extremely helpful & pleasant, and sent us all the required forms. We decided to wait & pay for the service until my mom had passed away, rather than pre-pay, but we went ahead & began filling out the paperwork. Then life got busy and I filed the paperwork away, unfinished. My sweet mom's health took a rapid turn for the worst a couple weeks ago, and I called Chapman to request help completing the paperwork. Paul & Cameron were so helpful, patient & calm helping me through the process. A few days later my mom passed away peacefully at home, and we called Chapman to pick up her body. It took a little longer than expected for them to arrive, but they were very kind. Every interaction we had throughout our process was a positive, compassionate one & we recommend Chapman Funeral Home highly. My children just lost their mother due to a bad stroke. They saw their mother deteriorating for 6 weeks before she finally passed. The pain and stress they went through was not alleviated by the people at this facility. I have told my children when my time comes that I DO NOT want them to take me to this facility because I want them to feel better than they did during their dealing with the Creamation process. I just received your response where you try to attack my being there and you say to me that I was wrong in saying how my children felt in the dealings with your business. You tried to cloud the issue by stating that it was wrong for me to show up to pick up the rest of the remains of my children's mother and the certificates of death (that you had to follow the law). I guess I should thank you for delivering (half) the remains the morning of the service ( which was happening when part of her was delivered). OVER AND OUT. read more
