‼ PUBLIC WARNING: DO NOT HIRE CHAPMAN CONTRACTING ‼
I'm speaking out to protect other homeowners from going through what I'm dealing with. I hired Chapman Contracting, run by Taylor Chapman, to renovate my shower. What I received was incompetent, negligent work, structural damage, and now radio silence and gaslighting instead of accountability.
Here's what happened:
After the job was "finished," we immediately had a plumbing leak inside the wall due to poor installation. Taylor had to come back out to fix it.
Not long after, mold began appearing in the shower -- despite proper cleaning and ventilation. I brought this to their attention.
At first, Taylor Chapman claimed he would come out to assess the damage -- but that never happened. Now, they've completely backtracked, refused to show up, and are blaming ME, the homeowner, instead of owning their failure.
I hired a licensed third-party contractor who confirmed what I suspected:
- Water is leaking behind the tile
- There is no proper waterproofing
- Tile and grout work is sloppy and uneven
- The entire shower must now be torn out and rebuilt
We paid $5,000 for labor -- and supplied our own materials -- only to be left with a shower that's a health hazard and an expensive problem.
Now let's talk about their fake reputation:
Their only public "review" is from Sherry Kaye, who works for Chapman Contracting and is the one emailing me on their behalf. That's not a customer -- that's a staff member posing as a satisfied client, which is manipulative, unethical, and deceptive to potential customers.
Let me be absolutely clear:
Chapman Contracting does NOT stand behind their work.
They REFUSE to assess the damage they caused.
They DEFLECT responsibility and GASLIGHT their customers.
And they MISLEAD the public with fake reviews.
I am filing a BBB complaint, seeking legal action, and sharing this to make sure others don't fall for the same lie I did. If you're considering them -- DON'T. Protect your home, your health, and your money.
Let this post serve as your real customer review.
Update:
After I posted my honest review about the mold, plumbing issues, and poor craftsmanship from Chapman Contracting, Sherry--who represents the company--responded not with concern or accountability, but with threats of legal action.
Rather than addressing the very real issues affecting my home and my health, she accused me of defamation and demanded I remove my post within 24 hours or face a lawsuit.
The wild thing is the only review available for Chapman Contracting is written by Sherry Kaye, who is not a customer--but a representative of the company and the same individual issuing legal threats on its behalf. This is not only unethical and misleading, but it also represents a clear conflict of interest.
When a business representative or employee writes a positive public review of their own company without disclosing their affiliation, it creates a false perception of credibility and trustworthiness for potential clients. This kind of deceptive marketing:
Violates consumer trust, as the review appears to be from a satisfied customer when it is not.
Distorts public perception, potentially influencing homeowners to hire a contractor based on false social proof.
Undermines legitimate customer reviews, particularly when the company actively threatens real clients who speak out about negative experiences.
May constitute misleading or deceptive advertising, which could fall under scrutiny by consumer protection agencies or licensing boards.
In this case, Sherry Kaye's involvement in both writing the only review and threatening legal action against a dissatisfied client raises serious concerns about integrity, professionalism, and transparency within Chapman Contracting's business practices.
Let me be clear: I am a paying customer and a mother. My child and I both use this moldy shower, which developed problems almost immediately after their work was done. I already provided photo documentation directly to them via Facebook Messenger, yet they continue to deny, deflect, and now try to silence me.
This behavior is not just unprofessional and unethical--it's a blatant attempt to intimidate someone who is simply telling the truth. I will not be bullied into silence. Consumers deserve to know the truth before trusting this company in their homes.
