Gus Gomez and Calgrove Rentals Saved the Day!…read more I rarely write reviews like this, but Gus Gomez at Calgrove Rentals absolutely earned every one of these five stars today. We were working on a major project in Beverly Hills and suddenly found ourselves in desperate need of a mid-sized mini excavator. I had already called 8 or 9 different equipment rental companies around Los Angeles with no luck. We had a 200-ton crane standing by, a full ground crew on site, and approximately $5,000 worth of Beverly Hills road closure and traffic control in place for the day. If we couldn't get that excavator, the entire job was in jeopardy and we were looking at potentially losing more than $25,000 between equipment, crews, permits, traffic control and lost production. Then I called Gus Gomez at Calgrove Rentals. Gus immediately understood how serious the situation was. On an extremely busy Monday, he dropped what he was doing, went to work for us, and somehow managed to get the machine we needed delivered to our Beverly Hills job site in LESS THAN TWO HOURS! That kind of customer service is almost impossible to find anymore. As time went on, my rental rates continued to increase, making it more cost-effective to purchase my own brand-new equipment rather than continue renting. Today, the company has partnered with one of my competitors. On the occasions when I need additional equipment, I've chosen to rent from Home Depot instead of doing business locally because of my past experiences. I believe in supporting local businesses whenever possible, but fair pricing, professionalism, and customer service play an important role in where I invest my money. Long-term customer relationships are built on trust, consistency, and mutual respect.

The tech arrived and diagnosed the issue as a bad starter which would need replacing, again all good up til this point. The tech put some information in his ipad and came back with a quote that I was sure was a mistake, about 650 dollars to install a rebuilt starter, one that I can buy new online for 150 bucks. We needed the forklift so I said the price would be fine as long as it was not any higher and the tech said he would be back the following day. He did come back, and installed the starter and then proceeded to hand me a bill for almost 1000 dollars, 1000 dollars to install a starter. Apparently this company charges for travel time, gas, food, nap time, and any other fees they feel like adding to your bill. I called the company and was able to get the price down, still incredibly high, but something slightly more reasonable. We paid and I informed the company that I would no longer be using their services and we left it at that, or so I thought. This forklift is a spare and we use it only during emergencies, so about once every few weeks, or at least we try to use it but can't because it will not start due to a bad starter...... that's right, a 600 dollar starter that was used a maximum of 10 times won't work. This company is refusing to help as "it's out of warranty". I have never dealt with a more crooked business, and I encourage anyone to avoid this place unless you like throwing your money away.
