we were craving some mexican and we've never been here so we figured to give it a try. it wasn't busy when we came so we sat quickly. we ordered the arroz con pollo and the carne asada tacos. the rice that was served tasted overcooked and bland. the flavor was okay but it just tasted like it's been sitting there a while. the chicken was great though. good char flavor that was tender, juicy, and well seasoned. the carne asada tacos were good overall. i was disappointed in the portion size as i'd want more meat on my tacos. the sauces it came with were delicious and spicy. the best part of the meal was probably the refried beans. it's probably the more better refried beans i've ever had from a mexican restaurant. overall, our meal was just okay. nothing too special and will satisfy that craving for mexican food. read more

My family has eaten here often because we thought it was great and the service was great. Well, last night changed that opinion. First, the service was awful. We ordered table side guacamole and the server immediately showed an attitude. I had to ask for it twice more before it was finally resolved. And the chips-the basket is empty (and has been) so we asked for more chips to go with the fresh dip. The table beside us got some but we didn't. So we asked again. Still waiting and Because of this and additional issues I think the manager finally took notice. He got the chips but little else. Even after watching and hearing the issues we were having-he didn't ask if we were satisfied or needed anything. Things didn't improve and of course there was a problem with the bill. We paid but left unsatisfied. The manager must be new or he'd know the rule: ONE complaint erases 100 good reviews = less business. He didn't offer a discount, free drink, comp one of the entrees or even here's one entree on me next time you come in. At least that would have got us to return and try again. I can say this as a manager myself and how I would have handled it. Additionally most of my family is in the hospitality business so this information was being shared with at least five other establishments before the weekend was over. We came to Chapala because of a recommendation by a friend and I am now wondering if that friend was playing a cruel joke on me. The salsa was SO bland and left me asking "WHERE IS THE FLAVOR?!" but don't worry, the chips had plenty of flavor... old grease flavor. I continued with an open mind because I'm a pretty nice person. My husband ordered the lengua tacos. I warned him not to at a place like this but the man likes to learn things the hard way. They were dry. Like they were trying to win a beef jerky competition. I ordered the Chile poblano because I'm also a sucker for punishment. It came out and I though, "this looks delicious". I was SO wrong. Once again, old grease flavor. We would have complained but the service was SO slow that it wasn't even worth it. It's a solid average. I thought the food was good, service was lacking. My wife thought the exact opposite (shocking, I know). To argue my side, it took waayyyy longer than normal to get our food after ordering. We asked for some extra salsa and we were half way done by the time it arrived. The food arrived lukewarm and my wife's fajitas didn't come out sizzling like I've seen in every other Mexican restaurant. Despite all that, I thought the food was tasty. From my wife's perspective, the service was awesome! She loves the waiter. The food, though, was a little bland for her spicy pallet. All in all, I'd go back again. Went to Chapala in Niceville for dinner tonight as we have many other times. I've never had such a bad experience in a restaurant as I did on this visit. I ordered the Pork Carnitas and I get this each time I go because I used to love theirs. Tonight I literally was served a plate of mushed up fat. No pork chunks, just mushed up looking bunches of fat. I was shocked to say the least because my server apparently didn't make note of this and still served it. I stopped another server and when she looked at the plate she saw immediately there were no pork chunks at all, just a flattened mush of lots of fat with some very small bits of meat attached in a lot of fat, mixed in with onions and peppers. They asked if I wanted to reorder the same thing or something else. I ordered the Steak Torta. It was rather bizzare because it had a large rectangular chunk of the Mexican cheese in the whole sandwich and it would normally be all crumbled up on the Torta. It was lacking in the amount of steak too. It comes with jalapenos on the side so when I opened the Torta to add some jalapenos I was shocked to find a curly black hair in it. I got up and carried the Torta to the server because I was so disgusted I wasn't going to wait for her to eventually come back to our table. I didn't order anything else. We will no longer eat at Chapala and that honestly makes me sad. If I were to guess it seemed to me that the hair was put there on purpose for sending the first plate back. It certainly makes you wonder! Our server was a very delightful young woman and she has served us before so she is great. I can't blame her about the first plate that came out because she was so busy and delivered our food and I'm sure didn't realize there were no pork carnitas actually on the plate. Just the fat and veggies. I've never been served a more bizarre dish. My review is honest and true. Chapala was one of my favorite places for the Carnitas in our entire area. We won't be going back there ever again. If there hadn't been hair in the Torta I would have gone back another time. It was completely disgusting. read more

Insanely good. AUTHENTIC. Real Mexican food done right. There's a few Mexican restaurants between Miramar Beach, Navarre, Pensacola, Fort Walton, and Niceville. But honestly out of all of the ones that we've tried, Chapala has been consistently the place that had the best service and food, hands down. It's not fancy, doesn't have a fancy menu, but they are friendly and quick and are very good at what they do and the restaurant and bathrooms are always clean and that's something super important. They also are accommodating for substitutions as well if your child wants something changed or if you want your meal differently. This is where we go. read more

We went here last evening, 2-14 and we read reviews on Yelp before we went. They were mixed and more good than bad so since we were tired and it was close by, we said why not. The place was very clean and nice looking and the staff was very polite. But.....we go to a restaurant to eat and not do walk-in reviews so hear goes. We both got beef nachos since that is one of both of our favorites. They brought them out and the appearance was pleasing enough but we soon found out that this was one of those many places now that has tried to cut corners to keep prices down but that was not reflected in the cost however. They had all the ingredients that go in beef nachos but it was the portion of each ingredient that doomed the deal. Plenty of chips Beef - maybe a quarter of a cup strategically spread all over but just not enough to fool anybody as you could barely detect it...... Come On People, These Are Beef Nachos!! Cheese - Maybe two teaspoons and most of it was melted to the plate so non existent to add flavor to the nachos. Probably the second most important ingredient on any nachos. Sour Cream - a small tablespoon possibly, maybe. Tomato - 4 little chunks on each plate so they were obviously counted and applied. Guacamole - Same as the sour cream, just enough to say they added but not even close to enough to add to the dish. Jalapeños -Same as the tomato and looked counted, the same on both plates. Lettuce - Oh yes plenty as it is a great way to hide any shortcuts they took and as you see above, there were many. So in essence they are not dumb, they know all the ingredients it takes to make good nachos but they greatly scrimp on them and hope you don't notice. We both noticed but neither mentioned it until in the car on the way home as trying to make it a pleasant evening. Another business who will at some point scrimp themselves right out of business. Be aware too they add to the check for using a credit card when that should just be one of their costs for doing business. Chapala, if you want to know how to save some money and add that value back into your food and keep your doors open, here goes. Ditch the singer. That was the worst experience of the whole visit. She was singing at the top of here lungs and was totally tone deaf. It was awful. Reminds me of something my grandmother used to say. As we have been coming here for years we reluctantly, after the past couple of visits have to admit that service seems to have fallen off. But today's visit has probably ended our likelihood of returning. Our lunch items were soggy and seemed visibly and tasted watered down. When we brought this to the attention of the waiter, after he finally returned he seemed argumentative and flatly stated that is the way it is. We left after paying for the lunch which was more the 3/4 left on the plate. No offer of having the manager come visit was made. Will not be back. read more

If i could give zero stars, I would. Poor service, especially at the bar. Bartender disappears often to mingle w coworkers. TVs at the bar are often on horrible channels and with no bartender around, good luck getting it changed. Margaritas are bland, food is overpriced for the servings. I've given this place 4 chances, yet nothing ever changes. On top of that, there is rarely a greeter/host at the door. I imagine they too are in the back neglecting customers. Its a shame they are taking up a restaurant spot in niceville. I can only hope they do not last and are replaced with a better one. read more
