Here is the good and bad: The food and service is good. The portions are small. End of review :) The spring rolls were really good and crispy. The curry was very flavourful and fresh. The fish and the chicken was well made and tasted good with the rice and curry. The spice level was on the low side which is good for some of our group. The pad Thai was also very tasty and good. We enjoyed this authentic Thai food in Barrie (of all places). Glad we stopped off here from the cottage. An added plus is that they have a private parking lot! You should definitely give it a try! I am giving them a 4 due to the small portion size, hopefully they up the sizing a bit next time so I can revise to a 5. read more

Sadly empty due to some major construction. Ordered Thai Coconut Soup and a spicy basil and chicken dish. soup was pretty good. Very small appetizer dish. The Chili Chicken dish was nothing like what I expected. First of all, it has more of an almost stew kinda vibe. I do love the dish ware here, but wasn't expecting the dish to be served like that. Flavour was good. Again, it's not like the typical Asian dish of massive food on a plate, seemed almost controlled servings. Taste was good, the Thai basil was very obvious and of course, that was a good thing. The real score of the meal is 3.5-3.75. I've rated other similar restaurants at around 3 and this didn't deserve a rate to be clumped like them. I'd come here again. This is THE go to spot for authentic Thai food. I go here every chance I get usually with a group of friends. And been going there now for 3 years. As well every person that we bring there either first time trying out Thai food or some one who has only tasted the generic Thai places absolutely falls in love with this places food and amazing dinning experience. All ingredients are purchased and imported from Thailand and the vegetables are self grown by the owners. Beautiful art work through out the environment all imported from the owners home land. The presentation of the dishes are perfect and so vibrant and colorful. Prices are pretty good as well i would say a mid range but worth ever cent. This place is perfect place to go at any time lunch or dinner. Great selection of spicy curry dishes for those spicy lovers out there and any great verities for those who may not like the spicy food. It's a must go experience to taste the great food that is made by the best! You will not regret it! To conclude I give this small, but amazing Thai restaurant a 5/5 ! Having been here previously in the summer, I thought to give this place a revisit as I enjoyed it before. The renovations were done, and the view of the bay from this place is worth the visit, but I learned this time that you have to be selective on what you order. The place was empty this Sunday afternoon as we were the only ones in the place. We ordered the Empire chicken (house specialty), the basil beef, and the papaya salad to start. All the dishes came out quickly and made me wonder how they could do that so quick! I soon realized the need dish was probably heated from frozen as the beef was very salty and lacked the freshness one would expect. The papaya salad was good, the chicken dish not bad but not mind blowing! When I advised our server of the salty dish, her response was to request less salt next time, oh boy! No next time for me!! This place is great for thai food in the Barrie area. The basil beef was delicious but it was heavy on the msg or sodium. The cook needs to tone that down a lot! I had to drink water all day...Nonetheless, it was tasty. Portion size here is small to fair. Prices were a bit high for the food and presentation being offered here. There was no one there at lunch time on a weekend which was very depressing. The decor was gorgeous and being in a reno house, next to the water was awesome. No coconut rice as a rice option sucks. Located on a quiet part of Dunlop St E. across the bay from all the action this restaurant is situated in an old Victorian house. Parking is available. We went early on mid-summer Saturday night and it was surprisingly not busy. There are plenty of Thai artifacts, furniture and decorations but the room is quite plain otherwise. Not a lot of ambiance. There is a large patio out front but there were no umbrellas set up so I guess they didn't intend to serve out there tonight. The service was efficient and friendly. We ordered From Chaopaya for the first time. We've been to Thailand and have eaten in many Thai restaurants in Toronto. This is was the first time we ate Thai in Barrie. An extreme disappointment. The Emerald chicken curry was like soup but without any flavour at all. It had no spice, no coconut. The Pad Thai noodles were dry. There were 2 pieces of shrimp. The steamed rice was similar to Uncle Bens. No flavour. The Eggplant delight was better though not very spicy, considering their menu gives it a 3-star heat rating. The mango salad was good. One of the best Thai restaurants there are in Barrie! Stopped in with a friend one summer afternoon after not having too much luck with all the other Thai restaurants in Barrie. Boringly enough, we both ended up ordering the same chicken basil fried rice but we both agreed on the fact that they were extremely delicious. The chicken basil fried rice was just the right amount of spiciness and it was actually quite authentic. The place itself is quite small but parking is ample. On the MSG scale, it was unfortunately quite heavy and I actually had quite a heartburn despite all that deliciousness. I like the location of this restaurant. It is facing the lake and if you can get a table in the section near the patio that would be nice. We ordered the spring rolls (4 pieces), Pai Thai and chicken fried rice and the Thai Iced Tea. The food were above average. Service was so so. The Thai Iced Tea was very good though. It is a bit similar to milk tea but tastes a lot lighter. Compare to other restaurants in Barrie, their price is very reasonable. I would definitely go back when the patio opens in summer. I had to write this review because so many people left such great reviews and I'm feeling so confused. This has to be the worst Thai food I've ever had in my life. The pad Thai was so sour that it tasted like something had gone bad and was inedible. The empire green curry tasted like pure salt. That's it. Just salt. The noddles we are broken and thin and tasteless. The prices were ok but not for this low quality of salt and sugar food. Just an insult to the amazingness that Thai food is suppose to be. Not being a fan of Thai Food a friend convinced me to join her so off we went Got there and the parking lot was empty. Not a good sign. Pressing forward and entering i found the ambiance a bit confusing as the converted old house was a spectacular example of traditional Arts and Crafts or Craftsman style and exceptionally well done but decorated by Budda. Terrible service, shabby ambience as in spiderwebs all over outdoor signs, severely peeling paint and strong sense of lack of care for environment and patrons. Walked in and hostess/server refused to let us sit inside in spite of our request (we both have history of skin cancer). Should have walked out then! Refused to let us sit towards the back in deeper shade and planted us out where passers-by could see us (we later realized) in moderate shade. When I requested mildest curry dish, she suggested golden curry. I ordered that and asked for a side broccoli at my cost, she refused to let me do that snd said I had to get the spicier green curry so I could have the broccoli. I think she was either trying to save me money or keep the cook happy. After serving appetizer and then entree, she never came back. We had to ask the only other server to get our check after even going inside to try to request our check. The curry was too spicy for me, although decently prepared, soup was blah and spring roll predictable. Spouse's Pad Thai was "the worst I have ever had". Portions were modest, but so lousy tasting, neither of us finished our meal. Go elsewhere for decent Thai food and better customer service! read more
