By comparison, the nearby Black Birch golf course, which has been closed all year and not being maintained, looks to be in better shape than Fox Hopyard.

Putting is a guessing game of which crater and dead spot will kick your ball out of line. If I lived across the street and they said I could golf for free any time I wanted to I would never golf again. I won a pass for 18 and a cart for 2 people at a tournament and I threw the certificate away because it wasn't even enjoyable. It takes a lot for me to review something but this made me so mad that a course could have the balls to charge any money to play here.

Also, the rough is thick and leafy, so I lost a few balls I would likely have found any other time of the year. But, again, these are to be expected in mid-October. The course is laid out nicely and offers a challenge while not killing you in the process. The scenery was fantastic. You just can't beat autumn in New England! The staff was super friendly and helpful. Greenskeeping crew were very polite and respectful of the golfers. Price to walk mid-week was reasonable.

I also rented clubs and thought everything was pretty reasonably priced, everything seemed to be maintained pretty well and there was a fun variety if terrain for each hole. It was raining lightly when we first came, and if it's raining when you start golfing there's no rain check (which makes sense). The workers are kind and explain everything in depth to you. There's also a restaurant/bar which is a nice place to stop by after golfing. We wanted to practice before starting but don't think they have a driving range here or we weren't told about it?
