I was in Edmunston overnight and was exhausted after a very long drive north. I didn't know anything about the area, but Chantal's had lots of good reviews and was close by the Air BnB where I was staying, so I gave it a shot. From the moment I walked into the restaurant, I was made to feel like family. I could tell that the hostess/bartender (Kim) was waiting for me to speak, to know whether to greet me in English or French. My French is barely passable (I understand it better than I speak it, but am not confident conversing either way), so when I said "Hello," Kim greeted me in English and began showing me to my seat. On the way, she introduced me to Chantal herself, who was coming out of the kitchen. She was beautiful, gracious, warm and welcoming. Kim said that she would be taking my drink order, and explained to me how the menu works, and said that my server (whose name I unfortunately have forgotten) would take my food order. The house Merlot was excellent. My server was very knowledgeable about which foods were gluten free, and answered all my questions. I ordered salmon with vegetables and rice. But first came the tiny little cup of mushroom soup, which was SO good, and made me wish it were bigger. Before the meal was delivered to me, my server let me know that the rice did contain bell peppers (I'm allergic), and would I mind that the cook (Chantal) substituted a baked potato. I thanked her for taking care of me! The tray with the little compartments for various meal components was so nice, with a little fried cauliflower app, small portion of sour cream for the potato (which I skipped because I wanted to save room for dessert!), schmears of delicious sauce and fresh herbs. My fish and potato were cooked a little more well-done than I personally like, but each was delicious. I took half the fish home along with part of the potato, and had it for breakfast the next day! For dessert - truly one of the best creme brulees I have ever eaten, made more beautiful with a lovely husk cherry flower garnish. I was shocked at how reasonably priced the food is, even allowing for the US/Canada exchange rate. It was fancy food at a casual price. As I left, Chantal once again came to say goodbye and to ask me to return, which I assured her I certainly would if ever I found myself in the area again! A lovely steak house with eclectic deco for sure... bling, contemporary, rustic. A welcoming place with comfortable seating, the staff were charming & attentive and the owner came over for a chat with our group making sure all was well. All six of us ordered various cuts of steak which were done perfectly to each person's taste and accompanied by fresh salad and flavourful side dishes. The wine list was adequate and the. prices were very surprisingly reasonable. Two of us couldn't finish our steaks so they were packed up and eaten with breakfast the next day... Chantal's just moved to a new location, apparently, so we were lucky to get in without a reservation on only their second day . We had just driven to Edmundston from a rather disappointing food-focused trip in Quebec, and we certainly weren't expecting to find much in the way of decent food. The meal included an amuse bouche, bread, and salad. The amuse was a very tasty wild mushroom soup. It was a little heavy on the salt, but otherwise a nice start to the meal. The bread was a generous basket of fresh pretzel bread, served with a very fresh-tasting sundried tomato and pepper butter. The salad was a bed of mixed greens with a nice poppy seed dressing and pralines. We were off to a good start. I ordered the rack of lamb and Troy had a ribeye steak. We both had the Monte Carlo potato as a side. They also came with carrots and a little breaded cauliflower bite. My lamb was crusted and accompanied by a dish of mint jelly and a gravy. Troy's steak came with a horseradish sauce. Both of our meats were cooked impeccably and so tender we barely needed the steak knives provided. The lamb was delicious -no need for the mint jelly- and the twice-baked Monte Carlo potato was very tasty too. The carrots were a little overcooked for my liking, but everything else was amazing. Troy's steak was full of flavour and seasoned perfectly. For dessert Troy had the sugar pie, which is a little sweet for my tastes but he licked the plate clean. It did have a really nice maple flavour. The decor at Chantal's tries hard to be very modern upscale but it feels a little confused. From a rustic fireplace in one corner to a molded wall-sized white rose and bling-y lighting it falls short of being either modern chic or cozy. The elevator music was definitely not to my taste. That said the exceptionally friendly staff and the delicious food make up for it. After 4 days in Quebec City and Montreal trying to find good food, Chantal's finally fed us well, and for less than some of the other restaurants that we felt were abysmal. If you're in Edmunston Chantal's is a must. Bring your appetite and you won't regret it. read more

An amazing success story. Who would expect this caliber of dining experience in Edmundston? Beautiful food, exquisitely prepared. We have visited twice on road trips to and from Halifax (food heaven), and both times were perfection. Husband said it was the best steak he ever had. The half-rack of lamb was also perfect. We appreciate the kitchen's attention to detail, from the inventive amuse-bouches, complimentary salad with meal, excellent vegetable sides, and fine saucing. The servers are energetic, skilled and friendly and obviously love the place. And Chantal visits every table, offering a welcoming hug to each and all and warm conversation. FYI, since some of these earlier reviews, Chantal's has changed location and has attached itself to a bar business, so you don't have to BYOB, though alcohol is billed separately. read more

We asked at the gas station for a steak house, and they sent us to Chantal's. We were very happy with the suggestion. This is a classic French restaurant, from the cloth napkins and formal silver settings, through the petite goûte, and on to the menu. I had the lamb, which was a little rare. He had his steak, which was good. This is a "bring your own wine" restaurant, but they have soda water also. Service was incredibly swift and the platings were inventive. read more

Chantal's might be the best food between Haliax and Montreal. We stop in on every trip. Chantal is charming, the new location is beautiful, the food is amazing. The kids gave their meals SIX stars. What an amazing experience! The food is amazing, the service impeccable and the ambiance, somehow, both comfortable and luxurious. From a perfectly cooked rare filet mignon so tender that you can cut it with a butter knife to a perfectly balanced homemade poppyseed salad dressing and a sumptuous maple creme brûlée - the entire meal was one delicious course after another. Our waitress was attentive and courteous. If I ever find myself back in Edmundston, this is undoubtedly my #1 dinner destination. read more

Change your address online. Restaurant moved and there is two rue Principale. One in Edmundston and one in St Jacque. Google maps didn't know this and we drove around for 45 minutes, called the restaurant, they still couldn't help so gave up. read more

A chance encounter after we decided to stay the night in Edmunston, we were not disappointed! We had the ribs (the half rack was huge), which were melt in your mouth delicious, and the salmon stuffed with fiddleheads and shrimp, which was tender - perfectly cooked. There were nice additions like the amuse bouche - a little mushroom soup with truffle whipped cream. Even the deep fried cauliflower on the side was beautifully done. Ample reason to stop by Edmunston for a delicious meal - bring your own wine! read more

I had the T-bone steak which was very good. Cooked well and great taste, with mushrooms and rice. For appetizers we had the shrimp martini and fondue which were also excellent. The sample of mushroom soup was very good. The ambience was very nice and quaint. Highly recommend. read more

The restaurant was simply amazing. We were driving from Monkton to Quebec City it was really worth the stop. I would recommend to anyone. The ambiance, the service and most importantly the food was really amazing. All 9 of us had stakes and soup. It was really high quality. Without knowing you would not guess this jewel from outside. Holy cow...hands down the best restaurant experience I've ever had. This beautifully decorated little steak house that we were just so fortunate to find on our road trip cannot be any more perfect. Food was exceptional (on the house soup tasting, salad, entrees, desserts) but service was beyond any service I've had at any restaurant. We were a family of five with three little kids under 7, and they could not have been any more wonderful from the children's placemats to coloring books and on the house desserts for the kids. The owner even gave them dress up aprons and hats for chef roll playing and glow in the dark toys to keep them plenty busy. Since we are tourists, she also gave us recommendations on which cities to visit with kids friendly activities. All in all, 5+++ rating. read more

Not only was the service impeccable, the food was very fresh, well prepared and seasoned nicely! The bread before the meal was assorted with pretzel, wheat and sourdough and brought to us piping hot!
