No. Do not recommend. We left consignment items yesterday and were told by a man that they do not issue a receipt for items placed on consignment. We asked how will we prove we brought the items in? He said people just trust us. We asked about pricing and he said his wife would decide the price of each item. We requested the wife call the next day to discuss pricing for each item. The man repeated, people just trust us. She did not call, so we called her. Woman gave very rude and curt responses to our questions. Said she did not have pricing. We asked when she could discuss pricing, she said she could not tell us when that might be. We went back to the shop today and picked up our items. The woman was again very rude and unhelpful. Absolutely a joy to visit and shop. The folks working were knowledgeable and helpful. I wish I had had been able to get there for my Christmas shopping. They have so many options for the horse person in your life. I highly recommend them! I walked out with way more than I had expected to purchase; but was able to find a snow coat, a show coat, a Barbour vest, and other horse gear I needed. read more

Saturday, my sister & I enjoyed girls' day out and visited the historic district of Ashland, VA. We were window shopping there & came across Changing Reins. What a great store for any horse lover or, like me, for anyone who loves a horse lover! The owners are knowledgeable and helpful. They don't hover ( I don't prefer hovering ), but are easily available for questions & conversation. We enjoyed both. The merchandise has a good price range and broad selection, including everything from jodhpurs, show hair bows & gloves to pillows, magnets & greeting cards (LOVED the cards; bought 3). It was a joy shopping (& buying) there ( I bought more than cards). On a side note: Lots of us enjoy shopping excursions like this but if we don't support small businesses, this they could close & we will really miss out. Food for thought read more

I left a review of Changing Reins on Facebook today and the owner sent me a message (attached photo - make sure you click on it to see all of her lovely words). I'm not going to argue her very incorrect - and UNBELIEVABLY rude - points but I feel like people need to know what kind of business this is. My parents are small business owners and I know how small business owners are supposed to act and this is not it. Do yourself a favor and stay FAR away from this place. This is my review: "The first time I came to this store, a man was working and he was extremely friendly and helpful. I came back today expecting a similar experience but found a lady working who could not be bothered to greet me, ask if I needed help, or do anything besides sit behind the counter and give the impression that she would rather be anywhere but there. I have no interest in spending my money at a business where I am treated so rudely. I would rather go to a different tack store where the employees are friendly and don't make me feel like I'm bothering them by being in the store. You have lost a customer." read more

Had to buy equestrian outfit for my granddaughter. They were very helpful and had a good selection of children sizes.

We made our second visit today for my Granddaughter's birthday. The lady working here is very nice and allowed us to browse, try riding pants on and selected a saddle. We must have spent a couple hours there. Would highly recommend this store if you're a horse lover. read more

As a fox hunter, I end up there about once a week for something small or large, be it gloves, bell boots or a hunt coat! The wonderful gentleman who owns the store with his wife talked to my mother and I for nearly half an hour about the different hunts in Virginia! They sell quality goods, and are always my first stop if my horse breaks a bell boot, needs a new bit, or when I needed another set of gloves. One of the only places to find hunt apparel unless you like driving up to NOVA. Loyal customer and will be for years to come! read more

This is a nice little spot with upscale consignment tack and cute horsey gifts in adorable downtown Ashland. I called one morning to inquire about consigning some things and a very friendly gentleman helped me on the phone. He said he always encourages people to call ahead in case the store isn't interested in a particular item, to save them a potentially unnecessary drive. I stopped by later the same day to drop off a few things to consign and the woman at the front desk took my items (Ariat boots and a Charles Owen helmet) and helped me through a very thorough set of agreement forms. She was professional and efficient, but not terribly warm - I walked all the way to the desk in the back and stood there a minute before she even acknowledged me. Still, I plan to return here in the future if I need a good deal on gently used higher-end tack. read more

This store has a very limited size selection of items stocked and consignment items are mixed in with new. Prices are very high considering the use of the consigned items. The woman running the counter is much more interested in gossiping at the counter than helping shoppers. That and the RBF, will keep me out of this store. read more

I love this store. It is small, but the items are good quality. I always find something special for presents for horse people, or useful for myself. I don't need to be hovered over by sales persons, so I certainly don't mind shopping around by myself. I prefer the opportunity to look at everything before settling down to business. When I asked for help in finding a saddle the right size, I got all the assistance necessary. By then I had also located a couple of Christmas presents that I didn't know I needed. They've sold some items for me as well, with what I consider fair prices. If the item isn't going to sell, or is damaged, they won't take it. No problem, except that I have moldy lace-up paddock boots taking up space. Maybe they'll come back in style someday. As far as chatting at the register, this is a small town and a small store, and "gossiping" is one of the things I cherish about shopping, or dining, in locally owned small businesses, even though I don't live there. Otherwise I could order online from a catalog. read more
