Really great experience!…read more I've been wanting to come here for a long time, back In my student days I walked past it countless of times for some reason thinking I'd never be able afford it aha I was meant to attend here a few months ago with my friend but she got ill however the whole booking journey was a very pleasant one. This time I booked the Thai restaurant upstairs for my dad's birthday. Walking in from the 32°c heat the air con was welcoming. On the tappenyaki floor were wooden elephants and beautiful natural wooden tables etc. Upstairs was beautifully decorated with Thai carvings, paintings and wicker fish traps! I was greeted by name and we had the whole place to ourselves. The menu was diverse with starters costing between £7 to £10 and mains about £15 . After being served cold lemon water by a lovely waiter we chose between us chilli squid, chicken satay and crying tiger (spicy steak) for starters. The steak was a bit overcooked for my preference but it was beautifully cut and seasoned so it still enjoyable although the side salad consisted of iceburg lettuce with no dressing etc. my dad's chicken satay was a lovely portion and looked tasty and my sisters squid was a nice size too. The coating didn't stick very well to it but still very tasty . For mains my partner chose pineapple rice with prawns, myself yellow curry with crispy sea bass, my sister the chicken green Thai curry and my father the jungle curry . Despite the heavy-handed turmeric in the rice this was the closest thing we've had to pineapple rice since our Thailand trip . Was really fresh and tasty . My yellow curry was divine with perfectly cooked sea bass. Both my dad and sisters meal also looked fabulous! At the end they had remembered my dads birthday and brought out a candlelit dessert. Overall a very welcoming service with beautiful food just subtle tweaks though to make it perfect. I will definitely return.

The service was efficient and the staff were lovely. BUT...I'm a big fan of Thai food and this…read moredidn't really blow my skirt up. First of all, the place is rather shabby and needs redecorating- wires were gaffer taped everywhere and plaster was hanging off the walls- not great unless you think an 'authentic' Thai experience lies in the 'make shift' look. It could also do with getting central heating installed (during our visit they made do with a rotating plugged in heater) I definitely went along to EAT chilies, not to BE chilly. So for starters I had my usual (Tom Yum Soup) but it didn't have that good old kick and those rich thai flavours it's so recognised for- it just tasted like they'd whipped up some chicken stock with a dash of fish sauce- oh and they only gave me 2 prawns :( My mum on the other hand had the Thai salad which looked and tasted rather limp and soggy. The meat/salad ratio was also disappointing. Moving onto the mains, (Pad Thai & Thai Green Curry) we were pleasantly surprised- nice big portions and the sauces were lovely and rich! Wow! Our total bill came to £25 (this was part of a set lunch menu) including 2 soft drinks and some Thai crackers before our starters. I'm glad I didn't fork out too much for this one... It's places like this that frustrate me- you know they're trying hard but when the meal is so up and down, it doesn't encourage you to return! I really hope this was just a one off, but I won't be back in a hurry.

Tasty food but, for the price, you don't get a lot. The main problem is they're not very attentive…read more The lady working the bar area seemed to be very busy with back-of-house stuff and doesn't come around often - and I was alone for a while before someone else came in. I used to live near this 'restaurant' (actually it is half of a pub) and it actually took me about…read more12 months to try it out as I thought how can a Thai meal be served well in a pub...I was chatting to a friend who said I must try it out. I was sceptical at first, expecting a microwaved meal. How wrong could I be!? We were told on a Tuesday it was curry night - 2 Thai curries with rice for £10. Not bad and not a lot to lose so we tried it out the next Tuesday. We were welcomed by a young man who was very pleasant and he said we can sit anywhere. It has a feel of a pub but this is not a bad thing for an informal bite to eat. The drinks order you have to place at the bar and pay separately as it is 2 separate businesses. This is a strange thing but it doesn't detract from the quality of the food. Also drinks prices are reasonable. The food was served to the table by a lovely woman with a massive smile. The smell as the doors opened from the kitchen was amazing. The presentation was excellent. We hardly spoke whilst eating, it was that good. The penang curry was nice and spicy but full of flavour and the massaman was nice and mild filled with chicken and potatoes. For £10 this place simply cannot be beat on a Tuesday! Even at full prices it is definitely worth it. If you are in early enough you can even get a seat ready for the evening entertainment on a Friday and Saturday which is good if you're into that sort of thing. Don't judge this place for how it looks from the outside as it is an excellent place which deserves to do well.
