Thought I'd found a really good replacement for my previous Dr of almost 30 years. Unfortunately that wasn't the case. I recently requested a visit for lab work due to a handful of health concerns. It took them 1 month to call with results. Labcorp notified me my results were posted at their portal after 10 days. I was able to view and download the results but still needed Dr Phipps' expert opinion on most of it. I expected a call within days. If I had them, they had them. It took them three weeks to call me with results. I called and messaged during that time asking for feedback or updates on when I could expect to hear anything. I went three weeks with no response. When I did finally get a call, it was a joke. It was apparent he'd spent no time on the results and gave the nurse a few buzzwords to appease me. The labcorp results showed my bloodwork numbers from last Sept right next to the new results. When I asked what the Dr thought about the improvement (some dramatic) over the previous 6 months, I was told "oh he didn't have those in front of them". Bullshit. I had them. He had them. It was lazy and extremely disappointing. Also, during my visit Dr Phipps recommended a new Rx that he believed would be better for me when compared to what I was currently taking. Immediately there were pharmacy and insurance problems. I needed Dr Phipps to do one simple thing so I could proceed. I called and messaged repeatedly asking for his help. To this day, 5.5 weeks later, I still have not received a response to these requests. If you're looking for a family physician that will provide timely and thorough results, consistent and timely feedback/communication, and the level of "give a damn" that you'd expect from a family physician, Phipps Family Medicine is not for you!

With HV's transition to a membership-based model starting May 30th, my father scheduled a physical for May 27th. This was an important visit due to a recurring infection that required bloodwork. He followed all instructions, fasted, and even received two reminder emails instructing him to arrive at 8 a.m., fully hydrated and 15 minutes early--which he did. After waiting nearly 20 minutes in the lobby, he was called up to the front desk and informed he would not be seen because he hadn't joined the membership program. No prior call, no warning. When he asked why he wasn't notified ahead of time, no one had an answer. This appointment was before the transition date, and to turn away a 76-year-old patient with known medical issues--after he followed every instruction--felt unacceptable. It wasn't just poor communication, it was a failure of care. We expected better from a practice we once trusted and held in high regard.

(When was the last time you smiled while being poked in the arm with a needle?) I've been in three times over the past year, (Blood pressure issue, nail in foot and a full physical.) They work with your schedule and make time to get you in. I haven't had a long wait yet, and feel they spend the right amount of time asking questions and going over concerns. The front staff was excellent both when I called and came in for the appointment. They were very fast, friendly, and efficient. They did have my birthday in the system incorrect and it seemed like it stumped them when I asked that they fix it. I literally only waited maybe ten minutes before being called back. It was the shortest wait I ever experienced and that was awesome! The nurse that did the initial stuff was very professional and friendly. I was a little grossed out when I had to give a urine sample and opened the little door to place my pee cup and there was already one in there! Gross - I don't want to see or almost touch someone else's pee cup! Dr. Sone was excellent. very friendly, professional, and funny. He did complain a little about having to fill out paperwork for my insurance company. That's part of being the Doc there buddy! He was thorough with the wellness exam though and that was reassuring. The reason they did not get more stars is because after my bloodwork came back they did absolutely nothing. I never got a call back to explain anything. All they did was just send me a letter with a bunch of numbers I didn't understand, a generic list of ways to lower my cholesterol, and a note advising a follow up in 6 months. For a new younger patient with high cholesterol I would have expected a little more explanation. Overall this place was okay. I will continue to go here because I do like the staff and the promptness of their service.

However, then HV Family Medicine changed their method of charging for services and became a Concierge type practice. They wanted me to pony up $2,500 each year just for the honor of receiving their care. I'm on Medicare but thats not why I didn't join their COSTCO-type practice. I can afford that extra cost but it is the principle of the matter. Why would a medical practice do such a thing? Was it the new blood of doctors that voted for this? If this is a trend, there will be fewer places for older American to go for their medical care.
