The host, Duker, was friendly and welcoming, extremely helpful with his tips & advice for what to do! His enthusiasm was so addictive in fact, that we ended up extending our stay another night in order to sightsee per his suggestions! The Inn at Charlotte is has the perfect location for taking advantage of some really great biking both inland and along Lake Champlain. If you're daring, you can even try to tackle the steep Mt. Philo path. Duker was amazingly helpful in orienting us to the best roads and trails for biking in and around Charlotte, and plan some fun day-trips (including the Essex ferry). Breakfast is not to be missed, and I wanted to thank Duker for whipping some wonderful vegetarian meals. The inn is really relaxing to hang out at during the day - plenty of hammocks, chairs and shaded areas to relax. They're also chickens roaming premises, which were pretty entertaining on their own. Also, if you want to explore the inn's 200 acres of forest, fields and meadows you'll easily have your fill of nature without having to drive to a trailhead. I loved my morning walks through seemingly endless fields of wildflowers and then visiting the pond. Also, the farm fresh breakfast is incredible with Meghan & Tyler being the best hosts of any B&B I've been to in recent years.

The grounds are a small working farm - although we visited in early spring, so not much to see there. The inn has the quirky charm of a house that has probably seen many lives. The lounge areas have creaky wooden floors and other original features. The decor is a mix of farmhouse antiques balanced with more recent comfortable pieces. We had the "Love" room which had a giant bathroom with a jacuzzi bath/shower and a comfortable bed with and antique iron bed frame. The room was clean. The breakfast was made to order (eggs, omelettes, pancakes, yogurt or grain bowl) and enjoyed in a spacious dining room that also had self-service tea and cookies most of the day. The hosts are very accommodating. There is a network of trails accessible from the parking lot. Overall a great Vermont experience and a good value.

To the left is a mud room with a bench to take off boots and various informative brochures for the area. The kitchen is behind and seen through a window along the bench wall. The kitchen was wide and bright with a picture window over looking the land view behind the Inn. Just to the left of the bench starts the entry way to the next room and the heart of guest gatherings, the dining room. Wide pine floors, post and beam. Beautiful country style dining room table with a bright window on the rear wall. Way better than a hotel that is for sure! Continue past the dining room and enter the next room, the living room. Roaring fires, parcheesi, the game of life, reading magazines about vt real estate, the New Yorker, and just lounging in a vt country setting. That's how I spent my NYE 2014 with my wife and baby to be in the living room. This living room with it's wide pine floors, Christmas tree with lights and hydrangeas from Kim's garden, rocking chair and oversized brick rustic fireplace, oriental carpets...half way into this room on the right wall is an entry way back to the rear of the dining room. Just before the dining room is a small bar area and coffe station. VT craft beers and VT coffee and teas! Also the storage area for games and a CD player, a small bar sink as well. The breakfast each day were amazing! The homemade granola was out of this world, the scones, waffles, sausages, baked pear were out of this world. Again, way better than a hotel could ever do. The bedroom we stayed in was Babcock. It had a queen sized bed with lots of pillows and a nice semi firm mattress. We also had a small TV and a private bathroom with shower and tub. Always a nice touch! It had wide pine floors too. Outside of the house is a large deck and hot tub. We didn't try it but I think a guest did on the first night we were there. I think you should book a night or two at this Inn and enjoy all of what VT and the Mad River Valley has to offer. We had a great holiday vacation.

From the moment we arrived we felt welcome. The room was beautiful and so very comfortable. Deborah & Peter really engaged with us, took an interest and made time to discuss our plans and offer recommendations. Pretty quickly we felt as though we had a home away from home. We had everything we needed and the breakfast was splendid. We had our own private space, with everything we could need (including an amazing bathroom), but also had opportunity to meet with other guests which made the stay even more memorable. We already know we will be going back - like a number of regular guests Deborah & Peter have. They clearly love hosting guests, and it really shows in what they offer.
