Matt had good reviews and references when I hired his company to do a roofing job: part of the job…read morewas on a brand new addition-- standing seam. The other part, replacing old metal on the original building with standing seam. The resulting outcome of Blue Sky's work: I ended up with banging whenever there was wind over about 20mph. We literally would move downstairs to sleep in the living room and office on windy nights. He came and looked, his hired guy stopped by and told me that I should "not be afraid to stick my head out there when it's happening so I could identify exactly where... ." But depending on the winds (direction, speed), it was in different places at different times, and on all sides. Matt denied any responsibility and refused to replace it, suggesting I could plug up the ridge vent (maybe with spray foam insulation!) and see if that helped. And also, I could try putting one nail in the middle of each panel, near the top. A brand new standing seam roof-- nail it down he said!!! Ughghhg. One year later, I had the entirety of Blue Sky's work replaced. The company I hired to replace all his work found that the clips were installed at 30 and more inches across the whole job. And as much as 36". Clips are typically installed at every 12 inches, and I have learned that it is advised to put them every 6" in areas that get high winds, which we do here near Lake Champlain. Since replacing all of Blue Sky's work, and we have absolutely no more banging.

My roof needs to be replaced as it started leaking last winter. Called Matt in June and he said he…read morewould be able to do an estimate with the work being completed in the fall. I agreed with that timeline. Matt then sent me an email with the different types of roofs that he could install. Several weeks later I called to ask if there was an estimate as to when the estimate was going to be done. He claimed that he did not remember me and asked that I email him my name and address. I did that within the hour. Since then I have called and emailed several times (4 emails, 8 phone calls) asking for status but he never answers my calls or responds to my emails. Extremely poor customer service. If he didn't want the job he should have just said so. Now it is too late for me to hire anyone else and pieces of my roof are coming off.

What was supposed to be a simple two-week job stretched into a three-month ordeal, from Memorial…read moreDay to Labor Day. During that time, Top Notch Roofing caused our home to flood, causing the bedroom ceiling to collapse and requiring full insulation and ceiling replacement. The living room developed two additional leaks due to their shoddy work, which meant more ceiling repairs and repainting the entire open-concept space. Our front yard was left destroyed after equipment and materials sat there for over 90 days. It wasn't just a mess; the material sat there for an entire summer; killing our lawn in the process. The crew was inconsistent at best; often no-shows, with little to no cleanup when they did come. When asked, they said they were from "Lowell"; which we assumed was local (Lowell, VT), but it turned out they were commuting from Lowell, MA. To our house in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. Gabe and Drew built porch stairs that weren't up to code. When Dave, the owner, finally came to assess their work, he made them tear it out and rebuild it, but not before we were treated to the comedy gold that was Drew jumping up and down on the steps in an attempt to prove they were "fine." Dave also made everybody clean up the front yard, which took close to two hours between four people (Drew, Gabe, Jessica, Dave). Despite claiming on their website to be "fully insured," we learned that their insurance only covers subcontractors, not their own crew. So any work performed by Gabe or Drew or supervised by them isn't covered. Their own insurance company assessed $86,000 in damages to our home, and those are just the parts they acknowledged. After two rounds of "repairs" by a different crew, Dave parted with the words, "We can't do any better." I'll let the photos speak for themselves. TopNotch? More Bottom of the Barrel

Dave and his team performed excellent work. We purchased the house knowing it needed a new roof,…read moreand, two years later, it became apparent that we shouldn't go through another winter without having it replaced. Dave had provided a quote in 2017 and provided us with a quick updated quote which was very fair. Within a few days of providing the down payment, work began and was completed within four days. Realize that in the winter, the work will take longer due to the cold and other weather disruptions. His crew was considerate and polite. Gabe, the presumed foreman, introduced himself and his coworkers on day one. The driveway was left clear in front of the garage so that we could still park inside. They were usually on site by 9 and finished mid-afternoon. The yard was left pretty clean, realizing that it is difficult to pick up all debris with snow and early darkness. When he came by to pick up the balance, I found Dave outside picking up debris. He said he'd be back in the spring to pick up any nails obscured by snow, which I appreciate as I didn't expect that. The roof looks great and I appreciate their integrity and politeness in addition to solid workmanship. Thanks!
