We visited Champagne Lombard in Epernay on April 15, 2026 because we were interested in their approach to making champagne and their focus on terroir. I've attended culinary school and understand the importance of terroir in food production, and my partner was interested in how the exact same grapes treated the same way after harvest could make very different champagne based on the soil they were planted and grown in. It was such an interesting education and tasting! It was really fascinating and there was indeed a pronounced taste difference. All of the champagnes were delicious, but in their own unique way. Pauline, our tasting afficionado and guide, was very approachable and friendly despite her superior knowledge to ours and was very generous with her knowledge. If you're in Epernay, this tasting is experience is HIGHLY recommended! read more
