This review is for the "Light Cafe" at J Everett Light Career Center near North Central High…read moreSchool. Lunch is served from 10:15 - 1 pm Tuesdays and Wednesdays during the school year. There is free wifi, no tips allowed, and no tax! The prices are extremely reasonable. This place was BUSY! We arrived at 12:45, just 15 minutes shy of them closing for lunch, so everyone else was enjoying their last bites by the time we arrived. We saw a lot of carry out orders...perhaps some teachers were getting their lunches to go?? Well...it took too long for our "waiter" to take our drink order, and then it took way too long for us to get those drinks! Complimentary fried potato chips were served when our drinks finally arrived. My vegetarian friend asked if the chicken quesadilla could be made without the chicken, and he was pleased it could be. We ordered some guacamole and pico de gallo to share, a cup of the French onion soup each, and also some crab cakes to taste. The crab cakes were good. They were topped with greens and aioli, and served over a rich mustard beurre blanc. The guacamole was fresh, and my friend enjoyed the HUGE cheese quesadilla. The food is not fussy or fancy, but it was overall tasty. My friend ended his lunch with the house made cookie dough ice cream. The portion was large, creamy, and delicious (yes, I of course tried some!) The menu changes each week. Students cook and serve the food here. Some of the students we encountered take Light Cafe very seriously, and some of them are still learning how a restaurant and kitchen operate. What a cool concept! Instead of tips, you can donate funds to help support the Career Center. Website with link to weekly menu: http://www.jelcc.com/

J Everett Light Career Center serves as a nursing school. This place is a joke. If you are thinking…read moreabout nursing RUN AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! I'm currently in my final semester and it's literally been hell. There is ZERO organization. When you go to orientation they tell you all these lies about how organized they are but once you are signed up that all goes out the window. We have rotations while in clinicals and one of the main items that are on the NCLEX is OB and this wasn't offered to the entire class! Instead we were assigned classroom projects. Also, we were told prior to the summer break to not make any plans for vacations because they, the school, weren't entirely sure of when we would be on break! Who runs a program like this? The financial aide woman is extremely unprofessional, does not return phone calls to your questions, and avoids you at all costs after you're signed up. She literally came into our classroom, crossed her arms and curled her lip because she was upset we had questions about our financial aide. Now, when several students state that you tell them one thing and then you go back on it at a later time who is wrong here? I suppose 7 students who met with her at seperate times came up with a lie? Then when there is a one on one and she's upset because you are asking questions about YOUR financial aide, that is HER job she tries to talk to you like a child. She also, unprofessionally, walks down the hall on the phone with her friends cursing in her place of business. There is zero professionalism aside from a select few teachers. The teachers are also very cliquish and attempt to intimidate students with their grades. Students should be proud of where they attend their training and their school. I however would not recommend this place to anyone ever.

I am attempting to pursue the LVN to BSN degree through Indiana State University. It has been brought to my attention through the College Network's contracted service, the Academic Support Center, that Indiana State is in "negotiations" with their contract for California residents and cannot accept California residents at this time. It was also brought to my attention that the amount of time these negotiations will take place for is indefinite, and that Indiana State University's decision to not accept California residents may be permanent. I purchased 13 of their "modules" which I financed for a good chunk of money. I have passed 3 of the exams, and was currently in the middle of my 4th module when this news was given to me. I am in limbo, as I am sitting here with 9 other modules to complete, that I am currently still paying off, for a program that might not even accept me. I have reached out to the Academic Support center and they offered me assistance in finding a local program that will accept my CLEP, Excelsior college and TCN online exams for credit. Given the rather remote area I live in, there are no local LVN to BSN programs. There is an LVN to RN program at a local community college, however, I was eligible to apply for that program the moment I received my LVN license, as I already had completed the foundation courses needed to apply to an associate's degree program. The modules I have purchased are of no use to apply and be accepted to this community college transition program. I was also offered the option to transfer the modules to a family member. Unfortunately, I have no family members in need of any college credits or any such thing. Given that these modules are now [potentially] useless to me, I have requested on a refund for the remaining 8 uncompleted/unused modules. It is unacceptable that I should have to put my life on hold and sit in oblivion all while hoping for something that may never happen. If they cannot hold up their end of the deal, it should not be at my expense. If they were a company that upheld veracity, they would not have outstanding injunctions from the Indiana Attorney General's Office against the company's practices. I was given an e-mail address and phone number for their company from Academic Support. I have sent several emails asking for correspondence, with no response. The phone number has no option to leave a voicemail or speak with someone directly on any of the lines. I have filed a complaint with the BBB and have received no response. I have sent a certified letter over 2 weeks ago and have received no response. As a paying customer, I find this is unacceptable and unprofessional. Oh, did I mention that getting my reimbursement checks for my already passed exams is well overdue their "12 week processing period?" Horrendous business practices. Bottom line: STAY AWAY!

I have had nothing but problems with getting my reimbursement checks sent to me and there is absolutely NO COMMUNICATION. I have tried and will keep trying, to get in contact with the accounting department until my money is sent to me. I am taking legal action on them because I have been waiting since December 2014, for my reimbursement check to be mailed to me. I have tried calling, which gets me nowhere since the phone numbers I have been given, and even searched for, just send me to an automated message telling me to email them any "accounting questions" to acs@collegenetwork.com. I have been emailing them since January, every single day, sometimes multiple times a day, with no response. This is completely unacceptable. I am beyond fed up with their lack of responsibility, lack of communication, and lack of help with this matter. This is why I will be taking legal action. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS SCHOOL TO ANY ONE! THIS IS A JOKE OF A SCHOOL. I AM JUST LOOKING FORWARD TO BEING FINISHED WITH THEM AND SAYING "BYE FELICIA!" TO THEM! I don't feel they even deserve "One Star" rating, but it wouldn't let me do that.

I was very impressed with their presentation and focus on development of kids who may otherwise fall into an 'at risk' or overlooked group. Their emphasis is on math and science, with the goal to prepare all of their students for college. They're part of the non-profit Concept charter school system. While my daughter wasn't at all at risk, we were selecting her first school after preschool and wanted to start on the right track. I've witnessed her develop academically and socially with this very disciplined curriculum. This school requires uniforms, which I appreciate, and is heavy on discipline, but it seems the children respond well to their routine and are eager to excel. She brings home more than the average amount of homework, but is also in honors classes, with a 3.78 GPA. IMSA North continues to add a grade level each year and will soon be building a high school to meet the needs of their growing student population. They've added a new library this year and have many activities that involve the students throughout the year. I've joined my daughter for lunch a few times and disagree with the militant protocol they use. Quite uncomfortable. Outside of that, the teachers are dedicated and my daughter is flourishing. She'll remain here so long as she is happy and continues to progress.
