My son and I are doing some family genealogy research in Streator Illinois. We arrived at about…read more7:30PM after driving from Chicago, having arrived at Union Station. Happened in on this wonderful "hometown " sports bar filled with local families and their kids. Ambiance is like the proverbial corner bar that has been updated with a wall of video monitors. The locals you could tell simply loved it. We sat at the bar and was helped by a very sweet and helpful waitress that not only shared her advice on the menu but had great information about the location of the local library and local hotels. I ordered a grilled chicken salad and a 6 wing bone in special with fries and BBQ sauce. My son ordered the boneless hot bacon wing special with fries. Both wings dishes were accompanied with carrots and celery along with house made ranch dressing. ( excellent dressing by the way.) My salad came with a deliciously creamy house made blue cheese dressing but lacked tomatoes. For that deficiency I score it a four. If you are in the area, this is a must try establishment.

Audrey the bartender was a doll. 5 stars for their bathrooms alone! I wanted to drop the kids off at the pool, but they wouldn't get out of the car. Nice selection of bottled beers, pool table, darts. No drafts. No food. But all that doesn't matter when the bathrooms can handle your load. Plus, if you can find the whole Streator ER staff here on some random morning, you know it's a good place!

I went to the bar to order and was given my drinks but also told that we had table service(rare these days for bars). Our waitress came by and took our food order and was very attentive. My steak sandwich was the best I have had in a decade. Cooked perfectly and a nice cut of meat for that price. Wife had wrap and changed a few things and it came out perfect. No drafts but a good selection of beers.

You walk in and bam--it's…read morelike you just stepped into a 1920s speakeasy where everyone knows your name and nobody asks questions. The vibe is criminally good. Now let's talk eats, see. We ordered the cauliflower crust cheese pizza with candied jalapeños (a tip from the owner's wife--she knows things) and pineapple (yeah, yeah, pineapple on pizza... take it up with the boss). Every bite was a knockout. No witnesses. Just flavor. Then came the BBQ six-pack of wings--juicy, flavorful, and so tender the meat practically jumped off the bone on its own. These wings didn't do time in the oven too long, if you know what I mean. We also grabbed the fried mushrooms with a cup of ranch, and let me tell ya, they disappeared faster than a guy who talks too much. This place knows how to take care of its customers--and I ain't talkin' about sleeping with the fishes. If you haven't eaten here yet, I'll do you a favor (and since it's my daughter's wedding, that's a big deal): you'll never have to eat flavorless food again. Go to Good Fellas. Sit down, eat up, and let them take care of yous... capisce?

The guy bartender who started to wait on us was a complete jerk and threw the other three stars away single-handedly. After checking our IDs, he told us that domestic bottles were only $1 that night (it was Thursday). My husband ordered a Coors which was okay with the bartender, but when I tried ordering a Dos Equis, he snarled, "That's not a dollar." and walked away before I could order anything else. The chick bartender quickly noticed him walking away and proceeded to wait on us for the rest of the night because he seemed more interested in socializing and texting than doing his job. If we do go back, it would be for excellent service from that one female bartender and her excellent mixed drinks, but I wouldn't count on it. We found a better bar in Dana, IL.

I was able to try the "new" Cheapseats during a trip home over the holidays…read more While there isn't much on Main Street in downtown Streator, Cheapseats is one of the businesses that seems to attract in the patrons. Maybe it's the friendly bar staff, the clean and trouble free atmosphere or that it's a place you can go and feel welcomed by everyone who is in there. After being in the old shuttered Blue Room, the building was purchased and revamped into a sports bar atmosphere. It has been purchased and sold a couple of times over the past few years, but each owner has kept the same tradition of having a good quality bar. I generally have patronized Cheapseats for the after work happy hour crowd. There is just something about sitting around after grinding the stone all day, shotting the bull, watching ESPN on the tv's throughout the bar and rocking out to classic rock and country on the jukebox. Throw in a quick appetizer and it's a good evening. The bar also has numerous arcade machines, pool table, and dart machine. If your not into the "bar atmosphere," Cheapseats also has a spacious dining area with a full regular menu, salad bar, and nightly dinner specials as well. The key to their success has to be Debbie, she is always outgoing, friendly and makes sure to know her customers. If you are ever passing through my little off the beaten path hometown, be sure to stop in if you are looking for a great little watering hole.
