Marinated chicken sandwich with shoestring fries, sausage sandwich with fries and meatballs with fries. 3 items for 2 people = 6 tapas in case you were trying to do the math ;) Sangria was delicious, not super sweet like the ones in the states. They only used pears and peaches in their sangria. Through food was sooooooo good! I didn't eat much of the fries, but I was pretty full eating everything else. Our server was friendly, spoke English and super attentive. We sat outside in the patio, people watched and consumed our bevvys and tapas on a warm sunny day in Granada. The irony that being in a really touristy place, this restaurant was among our favorite meals during our trip for food quality, taste, ambiance and at a great value too ! It was a hot summer day and I was already tired from the Spanish sun. They have a lunch special prix fixe for about 16 euros but we opted for sandwiches and some drinks off of the a la carte menu. We got a beer and sangria. I had the pork loin sandwich and he opted for the jamon iberico sandwich. The baguette sandwiches were exactly what we needed after exploring the Alhambra grounds. This place obviously gets a lot of foot traffic due to its location but don't count it out when it comes to local faire.

Though a restaurant can't rely on views to thrive. We found the architecture of the restaurant is also very special. A Buddha statue greets you at the front. You can have the garden seating or balcony seatings that get the glimpse of Alhambra. We chose the latter with following dishes: Arroz Pulpo, and Bacalao a La Plancha. The pan seared cod was tender and fresh coupled w/ fried pumpkins and beans. To add the flavor, three thin slices of pork belly (fat) were placed on top of the cod. The octopus risotto and octopus in black rice were something interesting. Personally I think the black rice octopus was taster than the risotto, which was too rich in butter and cream. The sangria was not that impressive, maybe the red was too dry and not enough of fruits. If you do go there, please remember to spread some mosquitoes repellent. Because while you dine, they also have their meals.

So, my mindset while reviewing these types of restaurants begins there. The ambiance inside and out is quite pleasant, a win, especially since you cannot smoke outside. The menu is not huge and basically fit on the placemat, also a good sign. We tried a couple starters, a meat dish, and two seafood dishes and most of it was good but not spectacular, as it should be. The tomato salad consisted of a variety of gourmet tomatoes - mostly green. It was very good and surprisingly sweet. The pulpo Salobrena was tasty but a bit of a letdown. There was a lot of pulpo, BUT it was a bit chewy for my taste (it had the consistency of canned pulpo). The white shrimp and grilled calamari were both fresh, full of flavor, and cooked perfectly! This in itself is not easy because calamari can be rubbery as well as shrimp, but not here. Perhaps seafood is the way to order, because sadly the beef tenderloin (solomillo) was overcooked (which corrected it for me) but in the end it was cold in the middle and rather tasteless. Being one of the most expensive items on the menu, I expect it would be perfect, but not the case. In the end, I think for the price it fell short and I would probably go somewhere else next time. I wanted to be wowed but was not.

We split the chicken curry paella, and we were pleased with the flavors of the curry and how it was cooked (although the chicken was a tad dry). They notified us that it would be 30 minutes for it to be ready (which is standard when ordering paella), so we were happy to hear that. We have actually been to other places where when asked, they said it would only be a few minutes (so stay away from places like those!). Our friends split the catch of the day, which was a Sea Bass. It was cooked very nicely, and it was nice to see that it was served as the whole fish, just split open. Our server was tentative to us (until the end, when it seemed that it was a shift change), and friendly. He spoke English pretty well, which makes sense, as it was a touristy area. The biggest hit on the place are the prices. They are definitely some of the higher we paid on our whole 2 weeks in Spain, but again, that is what you get when you go to a touristy area. As a sum up, if we ever find ourselves back in this area of Spain, we might stop here, as the food was decent, but you can get much better for quite a bit cheaper, not too far away.
