Of course I didn't mind, as it's not money that's important; it's the experience. We were original offered to have breakfast while we waited, but we politely declined as we had eaten an hour prior. The food however, smelled very aromatic. Our room was decent, clean and had that new hotel smell. The TV had Netflix and YouTube, so we unwinded from our trip and watched TV and went to look at the amenities. They had a small gym that was closed but the indoor pool they had was open so it was a great way to relax outside our room. Was definitely a comfortable stay, will return the next time I stay in Monticello.

A few small observations: The dining room was a little too dark--I love seeing my food, especially when it's so beautifully presented. Since it was my birthday, I expected a bit more than a lone candle. No cookie, treat, or even a candle placed on top of dessert--it just didn't feel special. Dessert wasn't for me. It was somewhere between a milkshake and ice cream, but with a strange mochi-like texture and an overpowering amount of lavender. It felt like eating soap. The quail course tasted amazing, but the presentation wasn't appealing. It looked a bit messy, and leaving the head on (even though it wasn't edible) felt off. The rooms are simple, clean, with a vintage vibe authentic to a Catskills cottage experience. There is a large communal yard with a fire pit, volleyball net, hammocks and seating as well as several new Weber grills and picnic tables. Easy to congregate or just hangout by your cottage or on your porch. The Esopus Creek is a short walk across the property on the other side of the street. Best is the continental breakfast!!!! Fresh baked goodies, fruits, yogurts, coffees, bagels and various snacks. Grab a morning tray and sit out back as the morning greets you, you are transported to a natural relaxing environment. This stay was a great experience, they've really upped the game here while maintaining an authentic feeling of being in your own mountain cottage. The place is pretty big and was not crowded. Check-in was easy and friendly. I reserved a nonsmoking room but got a smoking one. I didn't know hotels still had smoking rooms... I guess I could've changed rooms but after riding 300 miles on my bike I didn't care much and just wanted to go eat dinner. I almost gave 3 stars because of the breakfast. Pretty bad selection even for a continental breakfast. Not a big deal as a good diner was less than a block away. Overall the hotel was clean and very safe. I will stay here again on my next trip through.

When we got back, I informed the guy front desk that the bathroom was not cleaned well. He said they'd put a note in the system. Next morning at check out I spoke to the girl at the front desk of the room and the vomit on the 4th floor in the hallway and it looked like someone tried to clean it up; but it still smelled and there was still remnants of it. She apologized and said someone would call. A few days later someone left a VM on my husband's phone that they would credit us the $25 resort fee. I didn't think that was acceptable, so I called back and spoke to Libby who was very nice. She said she would have another manager call me back, but over a week later, no one has called back. I suspect that the manager may well have also been the owner, and I was greeted with a warm "we've been expecting you" welcome. My room seems to have been refurbished within the last several years, and it was quite clean and everything functioned as expected. Free wifi with a password and strong signal was provided, and they had a small refrigerator and microwave, gair dryer (never assume!)as well as TV which I don't watch. I was on ground level and admittedly didn't explore or inspect the 2nd floor. I didn't notice whether there was an ice or soda machine. I was told that housekeeping would not come daily unless I wanted them to which I did, and the room was nicely freshened every day. I found no chocolate candy on my pillow every day, but that's ok because I just wanted a clean safe place to stay for 4 nights. The walls were not made of cardboard, so there's that as well. Did I mention that it was nice and clean? I will have occasion to visit the Liberty environs again several months hence, and will definitely stay here again and never go to the Days Inn in town which was horrible in my experience. I highly recommend the Budget Inn in Liberty and suggest that you stay there too!
