I was in the area running errands and noticed this place advertised lunch specials. Thai food…read moresounded good and I was starting to get hungry, so I decided to stop in. When I walked in, I was the only customer. I was greeted by the server and told to seat myself. I planned to order the steamed chicken and rice from the lunch menu along with a side of tom kha soup. After waiting for a while without anyone coming to take my order, I went up to the counter myself since I was short on time. I ordered the steamed chicken with rice (khao man gai) and the tom kha soup, requesting spice level 2 for the soup and 1 for the chicken. I was told the chicken didn't come with a spice level, but the soup could be made a 2. The soup came out and was actually pretty good. After waiting quite a while for the entrée, I checked in and was told they didn't have it. At that point I was confused . I asked what I had ordered then, since I was starving and had no idea what I was waiting for all this time. What Thai restaurant doesn't have chicken and rice in stock? Especially if it's advertised as a lunch special. Long story short, I left hungry. The service was disappointing and the communication could have been much better. I ended up going across the street to Chick-fil-A instead.

There was one table occupied when I had to walk in to order and they were already eating.

Listen! there are vegan restaurants, and then there's Chopping Roots. What I experienced here…read morewasn't just good for vegan food... it was culinary excellence, period. This place is cooking with purpose, flavor, and a boldness that puts even the most seasoned soul food spots on notice. Let's talk about that Fried Chick'n. I've eaten a lot of fried chicken in my life real, seasoned, Southern, bone-in, boneless, you name it. And not one has made me stop mid-bite and say, "Wait... this is vegan?" The outer crisp was perfection golden, light, and just enough crunch to command attention. But the inside? Soft, juicy, meaty. They didn't just imitate chicken. They improved it. Fool me any day if this is the standard. But I didn't stop there. I went full Sunday plate on a Saturday: Cornbread dressing: Moist, savory, and nostalgic in the best way. Yams: Like dessert, but not overly sweet. Silky smooth and soul-warming. Collard greens: Seasoned like somebody's auntie who don't measure nothing but knows exactly what she's doing. Mac and cheese: Creamy, rich, layered, no shortcuts, no weird vegan aftertaste, just yes. Everything on that plate was so good my foodie partner had to physically stop me from diving in face-first. Had they not pulled me back, I would've left with nothing but crumbs, a smear of yam glaze, and regrets for not documenting the magic. The space itself at the Frisco Fresh Market is welcoming laid-back but intentional. The service and energy is grounded in community, flavor, and something sacred that goes beyond food. This isn't just about being plant-based, it's about being rooted. Chopping Roots is proof that vegan soul food doesn't have to compromise. It just has to be done right. And they absolutely did it right. Frisco, you've been blessed. Don't sleep on this spot. #HayiaSophiaFaves #ChoppingRoots #VeganSoulDoneRight #FlavorOverEverything

Had to put this on Yelp to get the word out! I got the vegan fried chicken (Southern fried oyster mushrooms on the menu). Yum! The texture was so realistic that my non-vegan mom was sure it was actually chicken. And as a plant based eater of 8+ years I was sort of worried like I did when Impossible burger came out! Very real. Almost too real, haha! I took some home and ate it with some vegan mashed potatoes and gravy. It was HEAVEN. I will definitely be back for vegan fried chicken and vegan mac and cheese next time!

This place was on my list to try for years, and I'm kicking myself for waiting as long as I did! The first time we came in for dinner, it was Taco Tuesday and it was completely packed. The line was practically out the door. It took nearly half an hour to reach the front, but I'm glad we stayed. We ordered margaritas, chicken nachos, the Baptized Burrito, and took some ice cream to go. Their toppings were fresh and perfectly combined, making for an incredible nacho experience! Honestly, these were the best nachos I've ever had, and I appreciated that they didn't charge extra for queso or additional sauces. Since then, we've been back a few times, and the quality of their food, portion sizes and customer service is always excellent. The surfer bro vibes throughout the restaurant are fun, and they have entertaining things like a mini skate park to keep the kids busy.

I got a burrito bowl this time and I really liked it. I want to say, I like it better than Chipotle. It's not as spicy which I don't mind but my family aren't spicy adventurers. Generous portions were hot and tasty. I especially liked the spicy pickled cabbage slaw. I just ate Saturday's leftovers today (Monday) and they're still good! I also liked the rice choices of plain white or Spanish rice that didn't have vegetables in it. Veggies in rice is a way to start a revolution in my house. The chips were really good too. The only reason for the 4 instead of 5 stars is the carne asada had some tough bites. I might try another protein next time. Most of it was good but the few tough bites were a little disappointing. My son likes ground beef nachos so I'm looking forward to bringing him next time.
