This cafe is centrally located on the main strip across the road from the Highett train station. The cafe itself is really well designed with a small show kitchen pumping out meals to a rather large minimalistic dining room. It really has a great vibe. The first thing that I was impressed with was the staff. Upon arrival I was greeted warmly, and escorted to my table, offered water and a coffee to start with. This in itself seems to be a lost art in today's restaurant scene. I ordered a jasmine pearl tea to start, which, when arrived was presented on a wooden board, with a cup, an iron teapot and a box with three sandglass minute timers. The first one set at one minute, the second at three mins and the third at five minutes. Each timer representing the strength of the tea. A pretty cool concept. The menu looked awesome, but all I really wanted was poached eggs, bacon and mushrooms. So that's what I ordered. Now it's generally at this stage when I ask the waiter if I could have my bacon crispy, but in all honestly I forgot, so I was a bit concerned. My breakfast arrived in a reasonable timeframe, and my first impression was, that it looked pretty good. It wasn't good, not at all, it was awesome. Let's start with the eggs. Perfectly poached, soft and gooey yolks, and perfectly poached whites. As much as the eggs impressed me it was the bacon that wowed me. Crispy but still juicy and full of flavour, just the way I like it. I have to say this was one of the best bacon and eggs I've ever had. The food that was coming out of that kitchen was amazing. All their sandwiches and rolls are made fresh in front of you with your choice of bread as they bake it themselves. One downside is they don't have any gluten free bread. However all sandwich fillings are fresh and tasty. The inside of the cafe is small with limited table space, however outside is bigger and is undercover with clear "walls" to protect from the wind. They also have heaters in the outdoor section, thus perfect for any and all weather :) very reasonable priced, check it out for yourself!

We both ordered the chicken schnitzel (with cheese, red pesto, rocket & mayo for $10) and I got mine on a lot bagel and toasted. They're freshly made right at the counter and the staff have a super chilled but professional vibe - they were so precise about putting the toppings together, I was very impressed. We only had to wait about 5 minutes and then I was in bagel heaven - not only was the bagel amazing but the schnitzel was perfect and I loved the combination of flavours. For me there was a little too much red pesto but that was easily sorted out with a knife. I loved this place and am hoping to return for a second bagel-scoffing lunch before I head back to Glasgow.

There is also an all day breakfast/brunch and savoury bakes such a tarts and quiche options. The service can be a little hit and miss, but you're always served with a warm smile. The decor is eclectic with new and old knick knacks and cooking books and childrens toes. If you can't afford a trip back to the Motherland, than enjoy a strong brew and a little sweet treat here instead and use your imagination. Maybe even adopt a strong British accent?

This earlier opening time enables earlier beach walks with the promise of coffees and baked goods! The biggest positive of Whisk and Grind is all of its goodies are made on site. They even offer catering services! With so many different pastries and cakes to choose from, you will be spoilt for choice. They even make their own jams and relishes! The mixed berry cheesecake is a winner and I'm keen to try a croissant next time I visit. Whisk and Grind use Gravity Espresso for their coffee and also offer a range of fresh juices. Slight suggestions? I've only visited Whisk and Grind twice. The service has been a little inconsistent, but I may have just been unlucky one of the days I visited (and I'm more than happy to try again). Just worth noting that Whisk and Grind closes at 3pm on a Saturday and is closed Sundays. There's a few places to leave bikes out the front, if you've just come from a bayside ride. Whisk and Grind has one large communal table, so if you've got a large group coming in, you are probably best to try snag that. It's casual and comfortable, with a pleasant atmosphere suggesting it'd be nice to pop in on a Saturday morning and read the paper over coffee and a croissant.
