It's a wonderful story of family life, his father passing, and Lucretia carrying on with four small children. James knew the Chagrin Falls area, and what is now Moreland Hills. Families would enjoy this historical place. There is a trail to walk and signs to read. Parking is plentiful and the cabin is handicapped accessible. Admission is free.

So on a recent road trip to the Cleveland area (we're from Buffalo NY), we decided to take in some Garfield history. There are three historic sites all within about a half hour of each other: his birthplace, his later home, and his gravesite. We made it to the first two on this trip, Garfield's birthplace being our first stop. Garfield is know as the last of the log cabin presidents. His birthplace cabin is located in a municipal building complex. It is clearly marked from the road, and there is plenty of parking in the lot. Garfield's original birthplace cabin no longer exists, but is known to have been in walking distance from where this careful recreation now stands. No images of his actual cabin exist either, but detailed journal entries about its dimensions and style do, which are the basis for this cabin. When you park, there is a short brick trail that is clearly marked as leading to the Garfield cabin. We visited at a time the cabin was not open, but saw that from April to September there are Saturday tours. We also visited when the weather was less than ideal, so didn't walk the trails behind the cabin. The trail leads to where the actual cabin is speculated to have been. Near the cabin is a statue of Garfield and a few other placards explaining some historical significances. There is also a QR code for a self-walking audio tour. We listened to the audio tour on the drive home, very interesting! Lots to explore in Ohio if US presidents are also your jam! :-D The Garfield birthplace cabin is a great stop to see where our 20th US president came from, and his modest beginnings in the Ohio countryside. On our visit, the snow-covered cabin was a lovely stop to learn more about this fascinating, and unfortunately short-lived American president.

Came here for Mothers Day. Worth the visit to see the house and gardens…read more We were told when you come around Christmas there are not as many rooms open for the house tour. But on Mother's Day we got to see a lot of the rooms we never saw. And got to ask more questions and take our time a bit more. All around good experience. You want to see as many of the rooms as possible. Pro tip. If you are doing a house and garden tour leave the house thru the front door. This way you don't have to back track the gardens. Out the front door take a right to head along the back of the house and the gardens. Don't miss the greenhouse. The Japanese garden and the really all the gardens are beautiful. It's a nice walk. You can definitely get your steps in. It's a nice afternoon. We spent about 2.5 hours. Could have spent longer. But we were hungry. This was a good experience overall and fun afternoon.

Several years ago I found out that they have special tours at Christmas time where you can tour the house and each room has a different theme and you can also tour the grounds where they have Christmas light displays. I believe the tickets this past Christmas or $28 each which goes towards keeping up the estate and grounds. I feel like that's a fair price. There is so much to see in the estate and out on the grounds and I suggest coming here during the year as well for a regular tour. The Christmas decor is so beautiful each room in the estate is typically sponsored by a local business. It's so interesting to see some of the old furniture, dishes, light fixtures, truly whatever you can think of it's all so beautiful. They even have a greenhouse on the property where you can go to purchase plants, especially poinsettias for the Christmas season. They have a little concession stand where they sell things like hot chocolate, coffee, wine and beer, cookies, chili, soft pretzels, etc. Santa even stops by during certain hours where you can visit him. Overall, this is one of my favorite places to visit during the Christmas season and as a child I loved coming here during the year.

If she didn't like their craft, don't go around them. Maybe she could have just not talk to them, or even go near them. I was really disappointed when the owner of Haunted Hill View Manor, didn't even defend/or talk to the other talented readers and psychics. It's sad it can take one person to wreck people from going back to an event. The owner also needs to have the tours go down to where the vendors are. I have heard complaints some hardly get anyone in their room because they don't have the tours go down the vendor hall. Haunted Hill View Manor is a cool place, from what I understand. It's just disappointing the owner wouldn't talk to the others, who were blackballed by Stacia.

The only thing were a little disappointed about was that the initial tour ran well over and cut into our private investigation time. This made the investigation very rushed. Overall, though, I can't wait to go back!

I stopped at the Hagen History Center on my way through Erie since I wanted to check out the Frank…read moreLloyd Wright office that they have on exhibit. The Hagen is located in a couple of buildings near Gannon University. Fairly recently the Hagen acquired the FLW office that he used in San Fransico near the end of his career; the Hagen built a special building to house the office along with other exhibits. While the FLW office has been on display other places, at the Hagen you are actually able to go into the office and look around, which is a real treat. To start the Hagen has a number of displays before you enter the office giving information on Frank Lloyd Wright, his designs and even identifies the buildings in the region that you can tour. The office itself is relatively small, just a compact reception area, 3 workstations and a small office that Wright used to meet with clients. The office has the feeling of being a Wright design, clean lines, natural materials, and innovation. An interesting element of the installation is that the Hagen has placed photos of what the office looked out to in the windows so you get an idea of how it looked in San Francisco. The Wright office is less spectacular than most Wright designs, it had to fit into a commercial building and was more of a satellite office for work in California. It is a nice visit if you are in the area or are a Wright completist. I did check out some of the Erie history exhibits on the second floor of the building, they seemed to be well presented and a nice look at various elements of Erie history. I was happy I stopped and checked out the Wright office at the Hagen, but it is not worth a special trip and there are much better examples of Wright buildings in the Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York that I would recommend you tour. This might be a great start if you are taking a trip through Erie to see Fallingwater, Kentuck Knob or doing the Buffalo Wright tour.
