    The bestest dog ever

So thankful Dr Alves was able to help our family when our beloved dog Moose's cancer caused an acute event. He was able to come urgently and provide kind and caring euthanasia so Moose didn't have to suffer. He was kind and thoughtful with my family which helped us through this difficult time.

Dr. Alves was recommended to us by The Cat Hospital in Campbell, where we've been taking our kitties for years. When it was time to say goodbye, Dr. Alves was quick to respond, flexible in his schedule, and very professional during the procedure, all while being caring and treating our pet with respect and dignity. We are very thankful to have found Dr. Alves and would highly recommend him when the time comes. Thank you so much Dr. Alves.

Dr. Alces came highly recommended from various groups that I belong to. He is the best. He is so compassionate - we did not feel rushed at all. Thank you for your services Dr. Alves!!

Dr. Chad is the most kind, gentle and empathetic veterinarian I ever met. He helped me with the hardest decision in the middle of this pandemic, with the most understanding and kindest approach one can imagine. I am eternally grateful to him for so caringly helping me to let my kitty go. His kind words and his reassurance of what I knew in my heart (her oral cancer had started to impact the eye and she must have been in pain despite the narcotics) and his respectful and ever so gentle approach even after she was already sleeping deep made this sad situation bearable. I am glad she could die in her favorite spot in the garden - thanks to Dr Chad. I know when the time comes for my other cats that Dr Chad will be our first and only choice. I wish he had a regular practice so my cats could experience his gentle car throughout their lives. THANK YOU !

Dr Chad was amazing.. My cat Kipton was my best buddy by my side for many important events in my life.. He was obsessed with me and would never leave my side. When he would hear my car he would stop whatever he was doing run to the door to greet me.. Kipton started to have swollen glands in his neck and with antibiotics seemed to get better off and on.. We had many trips back and forth to the vet and spent thousands at vet hospital and office over a 4-6 month period.. Finally it was confirmed he had cancer of the mouth, glands and under his tongue.. Towards the end we had him on high does' of pain medication and it help a lot.. It gave us that extra 1-2wks we needed without him withdrawing due to extreme pain.. When I would give him a dose it was like my best friend had returned while temporary it was wonderful to know he wasn't suffering.. Something you might consider if applicable.. Dr. Chad was suggested to us by a family friend... I hope you never have a reason to consider but if and when that time comes this is the person you want. He explained everything and his bedside manor was just right. Dr Chad made sure Kipton was comfortable with several medicines to help him relax.. Kipton was purring held tightly in my arms when he went!!. I have been reluctant to write this review as it's very painful for me to share this story. Thank you Dr Chad. We are grateful that you were able to help us with so much care and understanding. Chris

Happily he is back doing what he is CLEARLY so good at, which I found out quite by accident through a mutual friend. He has locations in Saratoga and Campbell. We wanted a 2nd opinion on a problem our little dog, Teddy Bear, was having with his back legs for which his current vet had several drastic recommendations including an incapacitating (and expensive - it's VCA) surgery - on a 15-year-old dog. Teddy just came back from seeing Dr. Reed in Saratoga (a Sunday appointment no less!). Dr. Reed diagnosed luxating patellas, popped them back into place, and after having limped around for almost 2 weeks (Teddy saw his then vet on 12/2), Teddy's function is almost normal and he CLEARLY is so much more comfortable now. I can't thank Dr. Reed enough. It gladdens my heart to see this change in our little guy. As a side note, when Dr. Reed was in Los Gatos, we decided we wanted to start adopting dogs that needed families rather than buying from breeders, and Dr. Reed, out of the kindness of his heart, was boarding several dogs that needed new homes. My then young son and I went to his dog hospital to meet them, immediately fell in love with one, and have been adopting dogs ever since. (We are Teddy's 4th family!) So not only is he a great vet, he is also a kind and caring person. .

If you are looking for a kind, friendly clinic for routine care like annual exams or heartworm…read moreprescriptions, this may be a good fit. However, if your pet needs effective medical diagnosis and treatment, our experience suggests you may want to look elsewhere. Our dog got a hot spot the first week of December so we went in to get it checked out - this visit we left with generic broad range antibiotics and anti-itch cream, pretty common issue in dogs so I understood this course of action. Two weeks later after finishing the antibiotics we noticed that it wasn't getting better at all so we gave them a call and they prescribed us something different over the phone without seeing her - weird that you would know what to prescribe without seeing why the issue wasn't getting resolved. Finished those pills and surprise, didn't work. So now back into the vet we go - this visit we left by agreeing to do a culture test so we can figure out the exact strain of bacteria so that they can prescribe the correct antibiotics. While we wait for the test results, they prescribe different stronger antibiotics as well as a new anti-itch cream. At this point, I am getting frustrated that it's been a month and my dog is still uncomfortable and still in a cone with something as common as a hot spot. When I relay my frustration, they were very understanding, and they also verbally guaranteed that with a culture sample they will be able to fully heal her hotspot since this will give them the exact strain of bacteria. When we get the results, they let us know that the prescription pills and anti-itch cream that they had prescribed to us in the meantime were useless and that we should stop them immediately and pick up her new antibiotics and a new anti-itch spray. They again reiterate that this new medication will heal her hotspot since they know the exact strain of bacteria that is causing it. We are now going into week 7 and to my surprise, after following every instruction exactly as directed, and 4 different pills, 2 anti-itch creams, 1 anti-itch spray, MUTIPLE $85 recheck fees, and a total of over $1000, we are still in the same exact spot as we were in the beginning of December...over something as common as a hot spot!

My cat was feeling heavily stressed and sick, so naturally I was on the emotional side this morning. Before even going in to be seen, over the phone, Diana was giving me all these estimates that gave me a shocking response because it was so expensive. It's hard times out here. It was absolutely unnecessary to respond the way she did to a customer where I have brought all 4 of my cats to and have spent lots of money at. I understand you are a business but you didn't have to make me feel worse than I was already feeling. Thank you for showing your true colors. You have completely turned me off to this vet and when I stated I will not be doing business with them anymore Diana also said ,"good, don't then." I work in customer service and my advice to you is retrain your employee. At least fake that you care. Horrible experience and you best believe I will be spreading the word.

I need to share serious concerns about the visit my dogs, Picasso and Mia, had at this clinic…read more Picasso has not been the same since his vaccination. He screamed from the back room during the injection, which was extremely distressing. After the visit, he was unable to walk properly for nearly three days. He's had nightly diarrhea -- three episodes on Sunday and two last night. His stool is loose, he has very low energy, and this is completely unlike him. Picasso is normally a happy, active dog. We received no full disclosure about possible side effects, risks, or any post-care instructions. This vaccination appears to have been too strong for him. Mia is 12 years old, and the vet barely performed a proper annual exam. There seemed to be far more emphasis on dental cleaning than on a thorough senior check-up. The assistant came in with a list of dental-related prep procedures -- including urine testing. I specifically asked whether her age required a more complete physical exam first. I agreed to a blood test but declined the urine sample. When I asked about the urine procedure and learned it required a needle through the abdomen, I declined again. The assistant confirmed they would not collect a urine sample. Mia was taken to the back for vaccination, and when they returned, the assistant was holding a tube of Mia's urine. She said, "Oops, I forgot you said no urine, but I already got it -- do you want me to discard it?" I was shocked. At that point, I allowed the charge since the sample was already taken, but this should never have happened. After she went back to the office, I could clearly hear her celebrating with the doctor -- laughing about what had just happened. This was incredibly unprofessional and upsetting. Overall Experience: The exam itself felt rushed and superficial. The doctor barely touched either dog, and even asked me to lift their lips for the dental check. We have had pets for many years, and this is the worst veterinary experience we've ever had at a clinic we used to trust. It genuinely feels like something has changed -- possibly ownership or management -- because the quality of care is noticeably different. At this point, we need to cancel all future appointments. Picasso needs immediate care from another clinic because he is not doing well.

I cannot begin to describe the emotional distress that I was in. "It has takin me 4 months before I could even write this review. Now that you understand the state of mind I was in, let's begin: I took Pickles in to see Dr. VanZant Who is extremely knowledgeable and did everything she could to help Pickles. I will say this about Dr. VanZant... she does not mix her words, she tells you like it is, to a fault. She comes off making you feel like you don't care for your pet and you're a horrible owner of your pet. "At least that's how she made me feel" now after talking to many people and I mean many people, including people that have worked with her in the past, they all said to me that Dr. VanZant is an incredible aviary veterinarian and truly cares for the animals "which I agree with 100%" but she is very rough around the edges. So I guess what I'm trying to convey in my review is... I would absolutely take my bird back to her, and we did until the disease I felt was too great for my bird and I had to put him down I also took my other bird Peaches in to see her for a blood work up because I was afraid that she might have also have gotten the disease that Pickles had. Let's make it clear Dr. VanZant is emotionally hard to deal with in regards to your pet but she is a damn good Doctor who will do everything she possibly can to make you bird better again and in all honesty I believe she did everything and beyond to help Pickles. So I highly recommend For The Birds, and Dr. VanZant, just be aware that she can come off very harsh, and has the disposition of a chair. Quite honestly I'd rather have someone come off harsh but is competent and will do everything in their power to help your pet "and loves your pet" than someone who is very caring twards me but has little knowledge or experience to help. That's my 2 cents, do with it what you will. Like her I did not pull my punches, just spoke the truth. Last things last: again I can't stress how much Dr. VanZant did for Pickles to try to keep him alive. I just wish she would have show a little more compassion for the ones who are grieving while their pets are sick or hurt. It is possible to speak the brutal truth in a compassionate manner.

Without an appointment, the fee increases to $200, a difference that was not reasonably explained. For clarity, my questions were solely related to a treatment package I had already purchased, for which I paid over $900. These questions were reasonable, factual, and asked in a respectful manner. To avoid any misunderstanding, I clearly stated my willingness to proceed with treatment and to pay an additional substantial amount if required. Despite this, treatment was not initiated. In my view, refusing to provide care to an animal under these circumstances -- particularly when questions relate to billing or package terms -- is concerning and falls short of the professional standard one would expect from a veterinary clinic. I would not recommend this practice.

I am at fault, but if the bird had a blood test on file it might have made me more aware of continually checking his uric acid level. My husband took care of bird when we first got him. I saw the bird had problem with his foot. I called on Friday but, no one was in office until Thursday. The backup vet was booked. Mistake--I decided to wait until Thursday. On Sunday bird was lethargic. Found urgent care vet that said they took birds, but they did not .....they did not have equipment to do blood test. etc. big mistake..Third big mistake again waiting until Thursday instead of finding another vet. YES I AM AN IDIOT. Thursday bird had high uric acid and they IV'd bird until Sat when they closed for Easter. I had been told bird would go to another vet to continue IV over Easter holiday. Brought him back after Easter where he died several days later after more IV. They had no blood tests on their records. No one EVER told ME to have blood test done for the bird. I would definitely have done it. I found they switched computer systems couple years ago and did not have previous records. Then I remembered I'm sure my husband told me years ago the bird had 'high uric acid' but IT MEANT NOTHING TO ME WHEN HE TOLD ME THAT and he said nothing more so I forgot about it. I believe there is a record of bird having blood test showing high uric acid but it was on their old computer system..... The only other thing to conclude is it was never recommended to me to have a blood test for the bird, because I know I would have definitely done it. It was my inaction that killed my bird, but if I did have blood test done that showed high uric acid, I would have known what to tell another doctor. This occurred several years ago. Only now can I face it.

I realized too late that this guy didn't even take my cats temperature or look in his mouth which they are SUPPOSED TO DO. If he had bothered to do that and not been a lazy jerk my cat might still be alive. I will never forgive you. I hope people take what I'm saying seriously and find another vet. Before this the first red flag that I saw happened and I should have listened to my gut and found someone else. My other cat is blind and does not / cannot groom herself very well. She is also aggressive, so the only time I can get her butt area completely shaved without her being stressed is when she's under for her teeth cleanings. This office agreed and promised me that they would do it. I told them I would find another office if they were uncomfortable because my cat needs this for her health, and they PROMISED. Even when I dropped her off I asked again and they said they made a note and again promised. When I went to pick her up they didn't do it. This made me worried they didn't even clean her teeth because they didn't even give me an update. They did remove a mole I asked them to, but how am I supposed to trust that they cleaned her teeth? Also, her butt hadn't been cleaned either and I had to cause her enormous stress doing it because of her aggression to being brushed / shaved. It might not sound like a big deal, but it is. That was absolutely not okay, but I decided everyone has off days and to continue to go to this dr. Never again. Keep your animals safe and find someone else.
