I'll start with the end first. We called down after our wedding reception to see if we could have some extra cake sent up to our honeymoon suite - there was none left - it was that good! Wedding cakes often look amazing, but taste meh. This was not the case at all. Our cake looked stunning (a beautiful mix of Notre Dame and Harry Potter) and tasted even better. We went with almond cake with raspberry filling and lemon with lemon (so great). I'm lactose intolerant and Courtney even made the cake lactose-free for me (and no one could tell). I can't wait to order some cupcakes for my birthday and an anniversary cake from her. Everything was wonderful from start to finish. My parents were super impressed at the tasting and had even more compliments after our wedding day. We received so many compliments on our wedding cake - we couldn't have been happier. Seriously, the most imaginative, cutest, most creative, whimsical cake ever. Everything was so cute. For my birthday, my husband threw a hello kitty themed surprise party for me. He told Cest la vie cakes that I love roller coasters, and so ta-da! The cake CLV designed had Hello Kitty and her friend Badtz Maru on roller coaster carts careening around the asymmetrical cake layers. The custom fondant sculpture of Badtz Maru is so cute. We had a really bad experience with them a few years ago. We ordered a cake for my sons 2nd bday.i talked/emailed several times w them over what I wanted. I sent pics as well as spelled my sons name REPEATEDLY. They show up with the cake and his name is completely spelled wrong. I was ferocious considering how long I spent planning this cake. Courtney was AMAZING! I live in Los Angeles and was planning a wedding for South Bend where my husband and I are both from. She was able to accommodate me every step of the way from planning a tasting when I was in town, to corresponding quickly via e-mail, to helping me figure out cake designs, and helping me pick out a cake stand and cake topper. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. She delivered the cake to the reception site without a problem. She made two beautiful cakes! Our wedding cake was a 4-tiered black cake with gold ribbon and the groom's cake was a stargate from my husband's favorite show Stargate: SG1. It was perfect! The detail on the groom's cake was unbelievable. We chose champagne cake with raspberry filling and chocolate cake with raspberry filling for the wedding cake. The groom's cake was a lemon cake with lemon filling. Everything was delicious! The cost for everything was very reasonable. Courtney is amazing! We could not have asked for a better baker for our wedding cake! BONUS: if you love supporting small operations, Courtney at C'est la vie Cakes is where you want to go. Courtney is wonderfully kind and fantastic to work with. Not only are her cakes beautiful to look at, they are seriously the best cakes we have ever had. We are so used to the same cakes at wedding - big beautiful cakes on the outside that are dry, heavy, bland, or otherwise in the middle. Not with C'est la vie Cakes. Courtney makes beautiful cakes that not only look amazing, but truly taste decadent. One thing you must do if you are going to use Courtney as your baker is try her Pink Velvet. We had four flavors, yes four (she'll let you do that) - pink velvet, red velvet, funfetti, and carrot. Courtney was willing to meet with us, twice, and provide samples on each occasion for us to make sure we were pleased with our selections. She is also willing to make any budget work. We made a nice layered cake that was small for the cutting, and had everything else made in sheet cakes (saved a lot of money!). We are so delighted we had the opportunity to work with Courtney, and cannot wait to get cakes from her in the future! read more

First of all the cake was one of the most important parts of a wedding to me. Partly, because I love sweets!!! The other reason is it's kind of a center piece for the reception. Needless to say I was a bit picky on what I was looking for. We went to 3 tastings before we had came across C'est La Vie. We had positive experiences at all the tastings prior, but by looking at their portfolio's I wasn't confident they could recreate my design. We met Courtney at her home where she meets with clients. I thought she was very accommodative to our schedule meeting us late on a Sunday night. Her consultation room was very cute with Paris themed décor all over the room. Her cake tasted great and she made my fiancé and I feel like old friends. We talked for about an hour about our wedding and the cake design I was looking for. To my surprise she had already done a similarly designed cake. I knew after seeing that photo I could comfortably book this shop without worrying about the look of my cake. Our wedding day had come and despite all of the problems we had earlier in the day our reception was perfect. After being introduced to our family and friends I had time to look at my dream cake. It was placed in the center of the ballroom dance floor and was just amazing. It had ruffles all around each tier with flowers spread around the base and through out the ruffles. It was placed on a silver stand that Courtney supplied at no extra charge. My DJ set up a light to high light the cake on the dance floor. It was just everything I wanted. The hall cut the cake after dinner and it was the perfect treat. We had 4 different flavors: pink velvet, red velvet, champagne, and French vanilla. I had the pink velvet and it was just to die for! The cake was gone in less than 20 minutes and all of my friends raved about how good it was. I must have been asked by 30 people who made our cake. We could not be happier with Courtney and would recommend her business to any of our friends. It was sad to see my wedding come and go, but nice to have made a new friend. I used C'est La Vie cakes for my wedding and it was a great experience. Courtney put together a tasting party for myself three bridesmaids, my mom, and my aunt. We had a blast tasting the different flavors and it was very easy for me to make our selection. My cake was absolutely gorgeous and everyone kept raving about how good it tasted. My fiance and I devoured our top tier when we got home from the honeymoon. We had to be realistic, no cake that tasted that good was going to survive in our freezer for an entire year without someone tearing into it. She is incredible. Great value too! I would highly recommend Courtney at C'est La Vie for wedding cakes. We went tasting at quite a few bakeries in town: Martin's, Arlene's, Adam's, Macri's and C'est La Vie. The C'est La Vie cakes were FAR superior to all of the others in terms of taste. I had several people tell me after the wedding that they thought ours was the best wedding cake they'd ever tried. (e.g. "I was planning to just have a bite, but then I ate two pieces!") The only thing I would do differently is that I would skip the fondant on the main cake (we also ordered several sheet cakes). The buttercream is far too delicious to hide with fondant, and it looked great by itself on the sheet cakes. Courtney was professional and great to work with. Her prices are a little higher than some places in town, but after tasting those cakes, I decided this was worth it. In my opinion, a not-so-tasty cake is not worth having. read more

I would have loved to give c'est la vie a better review but I can't. I met with Courtney at her house and it was fantastic. All of the cupcakes she prepared for my now husband and I were delicious. We almost couldn't choose. We ended up going with the lemon with a buttercream frosting. It was so easy, delicious and her rates were fantastic. I was elated. Our wedding day came, the cake was exactly as we wanted, it looked great. Then came the cake cutting. It was a disaster. The cake imploded. It took us forever and in the end we had a blob of cake on our plates, not an actual piece of cake. Come to find out that is what happens when a cake is frozen first and then served. I was a little irritated since we specifically asked her and she said she did not freeze the cakes. My husband sent her an e-mail telling her our issue and she never responded.
