We drove into town with no idea where to eat. Found this place on yelp .... walked in and wow.... first, it was jam packed (a good sign) but in under 15 minutes we were seated at the bar watching the food being cooked and plated. My first impression of a Mexican restaurant are always the chips. The chips here were old cold and stale. Then we ordered a simple dish with beef tacos, chicken flautas and cheese quesadilla I also ordered extra sour cream, which I paid for. The chicken flautas were nicely crisp but the chicken was burnt on either end making almost a third of the flauta too tough to eat. There was little flavor to the chicken. The beef tacos were ground beef with no option of shredded beef. Again with little flavor The quesadilla...how can you mess up a quesadilla??... was cold. First visit and last visit. The one star is for two of the three dishes we ordered. Mine was very good and the most labor intensive dish. Our daughter ordered enchiladas, simple, and hers was good enough. Poor hubby's order was a another simple dish...except it came 20 minutes after ours and was cold with soggy, mushy chips by the time it got to him. To be fair, he complained and they comped it, but it was SO bad. If it had really been a busy time, I can understand an order getting overlooked, but there were several empty tables and the waiter kept coming by saying it would be there soon so he obviously knew something was wrong. Twenty minutes late is too late for us to give it another try. read more

This is in the old location for the Big Easy Grill. The lay out is similar, though I feel like some seating was lost... This is a big issue. I had a trio of authentic tacos (including lingua - where else can you get that in this area?!?!) and all were very good. They also have some papusas which are vice nice indeed. The other people in my party had various enchiladas and said they're much better than the typical fare in Springfield. The service was very slow... I presume this will get better as time goes on. My wife and I are gonna give them the benefit of the doubt since they were slammed, and under staffed. We're gonna give them another chance to earn more stars and our return business some time when they aren't so busy. However, that being said, this visit was terrible. First of all, this place is LITERALLY a hole in the wall. Max capacity couldn't be more than 50. I only saw 1 waitress, 1 cook, and 1 guy that was either a bus boy, or an a manager,not really sure. When we got there, it looked like they just had a big party leave. The waitress was busing the 3 tables that were all together. She sat us, as more and more folks started coming in. The place was packed, and there were still 20-30 people all crowded at the front door, which I'm certain is a fire code hazard. Our waitress was very bus, but still she was very inattentive. 2 couples seated after us got their food way before us. trying to flag her down for refills or silverware was impossible. I asked for more tortillas for my fajitas and it took forever, then they gave me the wrong kind. Both my wife and I's suppers were flavorless, and had a few texture issues we weren't too impressed with. The beans were gritty, the rice was dry, the sauces were bland, no cheese on her enchiladas or my fajitas guacamole tasted canned. The only thing that had some kick, was the salsa, actually a bit too much of a kick for us. Presentation of the dishes were unattractive as well. I could go on and on, but like I said, they got slammed hard with little staff to help with. We are gonna give them another chance to wow and impress us. If they do then we'll go again, and I'll edit this review. If they don't then we wont return, and I'll redo this review with even worse of a review. Amazing food, most authentic Mexican I've had in Springfield. The salsais great, the sauces add to the dish without overpowering the flavors. Portion sizes are generous. Margaritas are fresh tasting and very good. The only catch is the place is very small. We knew this beforehand and tried to go to dinner early, still had a 20 min wait. Tried this place tonight as a contrast to LaPaloma. This wasn't awful but it wasn't great. I ordered chicken fajitas which came with very little chicjen. This is by far the best Mexican spot in Springfield! My favorite dish is The Land and Sea, which is steak, shrimp, and oniins covered in cheese. Comes to your seat fajita style with all the sides and you can choose flour or corn tortilla, which is a plus for me. My boyfriend had the Enchi-poblanas and he loved his dish. The sauce was rich amd very tasty. We split a carnita Sope so we could try it since neither of us had one before. I absolutely loved it and will come back to try more sopes and more from the menu. My only negative was it can be very busy and its a small place, so at times there is a long wait time. read more
