This is the place that my husband and I have dubbed "our place to go when we can't decide" meaning we eat here weekly. Some preliminary matters that I need to address for newcomers to the restaurant. -The tacos on the menu are listed as including cilantro, onion(or is it pico de gallo?), and guacamole. However, they will only bring it to you with cilantro and onion. If you want guac, you must ask for it specifically. I do not know why this is. -Avoid the steak. It is unforgivably tough and it was unfortunately the first thing I tried on day one and I almost didn't come back. -Despite what the menu says, pupusas are offered EVERY day. They originally started out friday and saturday only, but because of their popularity are now offered every day. I am a pretty frequent patron of this restaurant (3+ times a week), but it almost didn't start off that way. My first experience of the restaurant started on day one of the store opening, which upon entering the store saw the entirety of the place filled with what I could only assume were friends and family of the restaurant owners. There was no place to sit and very little interaction. I paid for food and left, and the steak chef salad that I ordered wasn't great. The steak was the toughest I've ever had. From then on, I've never ordered anything with steak in it from here. I decided to come by again on a later date and fell in love. What ultimately won me over was the staff working there. It's incredibly hard for the serving staff's personalities to come out when they are absolutely swamped with people, but they all have distinct and helpful personalities. I wasn't sure if I wanted to try their menudo or their posole. Without even asking, they scooped out a small bowl of both and let me try them. It's the little things like that and their attention to detail that brings people like me back. Their pupusas are wonderful and they come with pickled cabbage and some vegetable sauce to go on top of them. I tend to go for the california style burritos, as they fill me up and I think they're the best value. The biggest obstacle working against them right now is space, and that's always been a problem for that location. There is no safe place to stand in that restaurant because waiters will be shuffling by. I had to move away from the register about 7 times to let servers pass as I was trying to pay for my meal. On a given day, there may be anywhere from 3-9 servers working in that restaurant. They've hired a lot more servers since opening, and that's a lot of foot traffic in a very tiny location. The sad reality is that at certain times of the day, people won't be able to eat there, let alone get inside the restaurant because of the full house. read more

What a refreshing place to get in Springfield! There were five of us in the party plus our baby. The wait was 20-30 minutes due to the limited seating size. However, the wait was worth it! We ordered pupusas for the table and guacamole for start. The guacamole was a bit heavy on the lime, but very tasty. Everyone loved the pupusas, warm and cheesy goodness with the slaw salad on top! Yum! Our baby even devoured one. Everyone at the table ordered something different. I highly recommend the Burrito Acapulco. The shrimp and chicken were cooked to perfection and great seasoning on it! I would say I could have used less onion and more tomato, but that may be a personal preference. The black beans were not super mushy, so I loved them! My husband ordered the Big Tijuana. If you like meat, that is what you should get! And do share! We didn't know the portion size on that would be so large! The other entrees on the table were the Burrito Grande con rojo and Fish Tacos. The commentary was that the Burrito had a serious kick, but very good! The fish tacos were not something to write home about, but definitely ordering again. In short, for this hole in the wall, it is definitely worth the wait! The service is impeccable. We will be back! read more

This place has some amazing eats. I love places that offer authentic and traditional cuisine and this place does not let me down. I have had the asana carnitas lengua tacos and they were delish. I've also had the burritos which are equally tasty and about the size of you face. The pupusas was a breath of fresh air the corn masa that envelopes the meat cheese and beans tasted so fresh. One of the best Mexican restaurants in Springfield. Everything is cooked out in the open, so you can watch your food being cooked and not worry about how it is being prepared. A definite plus! I ordered the Big Tijuana fajitas that included steak, chicken, carnitas, shrimp and chorizo. It was well cooked and not heavily seasoned or swimming in sauce (i got the cheese sauce on the side.. it is a spicy white queso sauce). My fiance ordered the burrito grande plate. She said everything tasted great and she also got her sauce (red) on the side. The red sauce was very tasty and seemed homemade. Slight smokiness with fresh tomatoes. The regular table salsa tasted fresh and not canned. We were not fans of the chips. Too hard and dry for our liking. Not many seats to sit. I recommend dining in off hours between lunch and dinner to get a seat. The place gets pretty packed. Overall I recommend over other places here in Springfield. read more

New in town and a friend brought me here for lunch. Wow. Now that we've gotten that out of the way, chips and salsa were fresh and superb. Don't forget to order the hot salsa and mix, fantastic! Met here for lunch one afternoon. Walked in and stood inside for a few minutes before anyone came to the host stand. The place was packed. Someone walked in behind me and after a few minutes of waiting a woman came up and asked the guy behind me if he was on the wait list. I immediately said that I was waiting and not on the list and she glared at me and said what is your name. Then I was going over to the bar to inquire if the bar was open seating or not and she walked up to me and put her finger in my face and said you need to wait. (Not once but twice) This was extremely rude of her, and because of this, I almost walked out. I stayed only because it was highly recommended and I wanted to try it. On a positive note, the food was really good. We had a chimichanga and some chips and salsa. The restaurant was extremely noisy so if you are looking for a relaxing evening, this is not the place for you. The noise level made it a stressful environment. I see a few bad reviews of this place but I do not agree, springfield is one of the whitest cities in the US, they actually think Mexican Villa is good Mexican food.
