I have been coming to the park for years yet just found out about the community center nestled inside the beautiful, formerly named César Chávez Park, located between the golf course, dog park, and skate park areas. What a spacious, clean, and well-designed facility! They have an indoor basketball/pickleball court, a fitness center upstairs with an indoor walking track--perfect for those hot summer days--a gaming room, a relaxing sensory room, classrooms, and conference rooms for various meetings needs, including youth and teen programs. There are also plenty of outdoor work spaces with beautiful views of the park that rival any coffee shop. For just $50 a year, this community center offers so much and can go a long way toward meeting a variety of community needs. Definitely worth checking out! read more

This has got to be one of the best parks in Phoenix. My wife and I frequent Cesar Chavez Park frequently. We love to take walks around the magnificent lake which has an incredibly good and convenient concrete path good for walking, jogging or biking! They have plenty of trash receptacles, lots of shade trees and benches for watching the water or the birds. My recommendation of Cesar Chavez Park may sound like a commercial, but I wholeheartedly think it is an underutilized place. Sure, I encounter many families enjoying the picnic areas, kids on the playground area, some fishing going on... but mainly on weekends. This place beets the mall anytime for wiling the time away, enjoying some fresh air or just contemplating Mother Nature at its best as structured by man. It's amazing what this park has to offer, everything one can imagine or want and hard to think so much is here in a park like Ball Field; Basketball Court; Dog Park; Drinking Fountains; Grill/Picnic Area; Playground; Racquetball Court; Recreation/Community Center; Restrooms; Shade Structures; Skate Park; Soccer Field; Tennis Court; Urban Fishing; Volleyball Court; and Lake. This is one of the best local parks, recreation and cultural facilities, and uses of open spaces in Phoenix. We are so happy that we happened to be just a few minutes' drive from it. read more

Cesar Chavez Park is a not- so- little gem in the Laveen area. Located near Baseline Rd and 35th Ave., this park is fairly expansive and offers something for everyone. There's plenty of green space for an impromptu ball game with friends, a picnic with family or a run on your own. The pond is stocked with fish, so feel free to bring your pole along. In the mood for a read? Check out the on site library. If you're in the mood to read aloud, the geese and swans may volunteer to be your audience. LOL! I love the views from this park! Daytime is nice and the sunsets here are stunning. There is fishing and on the weekends especially you will see a good amount of people fishing. The paved path around the lake offers great views and is nice for walking, running or biking. The entire loop is about 1 mile. There is plenty of parking. I feel like lately the park has been better maintained and cleaner. Sometimes the goose poop can build up on the paved pathway but it seems lately this has been under better control. I've been local to the area, for eel forever and I can say that this party has it amenities from time to time, but isn't all that great. Despite its size, Lake, and proximity to a public library, there's trash littered everywhere and at times not so great people hanging around. I wouldn't not recommend going to this place at night. If you were looking for a more nature-style park or even a hike, go to Papago or South Mountain. read more

I used to love this park. I would run 5 miles in the morning and would generally see the same people walking or running and everyone was friendly, including the staff. After COVID things definitely changed. I see more sketchy people and drug use. I've seen plastic baggies on the ground and I seen a man giving someone a tattoo. Other than that it is a pretty decent park, just be aware of your surroundings. I haven't been brave enough to go at night yet. read more

We came down here to meet a friend and kids. The park is huge and beautiful! There is a giant lake where you can fish, playgrounds, dog park, nice running trails. I use to exercise around the water but it got pretty scary with men trying to lure me to their car, homeless people or just drunks setting up shop like it's their home for some day drinking. So now, I frequent this park for the dog park. I always take my own waste bags because there are never any bags at this park, although there are stations for them. The parking are is quite small and never much parking for the people who are taking their dogs there because of sports practices held here. I have met some pretty nice people that I often meet up with at this dog park so I continue to go there because I always have somebody to be with. There are 2 different sides of the dog park. A side for large dogs and a side for small dogs both sides are really large for more than enough dogs to fit and a ton of sitting space. Although it is a beautiful park minus the riff raft just be careful with the times you go. read more

Park is big and have a space for many activities, e.g., family party, skating and small+big dog park. 80% of the park is well maintained. Some area has polluted water. The park should have "a map". We spent one hour walking and try to find a dog a park as Apple map was not updated. The park should be more dog friendly, providing poop bag and trash bin along path way. I love this park the lake is beautiful at sunset or rising!!! The trail around the lake is fun to bike, run or walk... The only bad thing I can say is there is a lot of bird poop on the ground, But that is only because there are many water foul in the area... Cesar Chavez park is the best that the SW Valley has to offer! Located at 35th Ave & Baseline at the base of South Mountain, it's a great location for the residents of South Phoenix and Laveen. I've seen it very busy, but it also seems to be one of the best kept secrets in SW Phoenix! There is ample seating throughout the park, including ramadas and benches. A 1.1 mile trail wraps around the lakes in the center of the park, making it perfect for runners and walkers. There is a small tot lot and playground on the east side of the park that families will enjoy. No matter what time of day you visit the park, you will find people around the lakes fishing. Be careful- a friend once tripped on a fishing line that a careless fisherman didn't remove from the sidewalk and broke his elbow! Drawbacks: this park is always dirty, as no one seems to clean up their trash after visiting and it is not safe in early morning or evening hours. Otherwise, enjoy one of the better city parks! read more

Park is wonderful. It's always clean and inviting. Whether you see families at BBQ grills or little ones on the equipment, you feel comfortable. I love this park for the views (trees water ducks etc.) there is a track around the whole lake which is shared by both fishers, runners, walkers and bikers. lots of benches and tables for a picnic or gathering. there is a playground for the kids which could be bigger but the kids still love it. The park has a few thing around it which makes it nice. The libery, a golf coarse and some baseball fields are really close. If you are having one of those days take some time for yourself walk around the lake and unwind! I recently found out there was a dog park here at Caesar Chavez park. It located south of the skate park and if you drive by you'd never think it was there. It probably under a year old. There is parking on the east side of the dog park. They have two areas: one area for big dogs and one area for little dogs. I'm still trying to find a time when a lot of people bring their dogs so I can take my dogs to play with. It seems like Saturday about noon is a good time. We were there today and there were at least 10 dogs there at one time which I thought was really cool. read more

Decided to make the thirty minute drive to check out the skate park they have to offer. It was a little late when I got there (8 o'clock) but I double checked before I headed out and was reassured it was open til eleven. The park is huge and looks like it has a lot to offer. The lake is beautiful and everything seems like it's been well kept. I walked around for a bit because I couldn't find the skate park. Turns out, the street lights around the (small) park weren't on. A little confused as to why not if it's open until 11pm. Very bummed that I couldn't skate. I'll probably be back at some point when I have more day light. read more

This park is always packed. This is a very active type of park because there's so many things to do here. Every type of outdoor sport can be found here. Also has a beautiful huge lake. This is also a great place for fishing and you'll find it packed with people fishing at times. One of my favorite places to go urban fishing. Friendly people to talk to and get tips. Now that the weather is getting cooler I have been looking for an alternative to South Mountain to take my dog to at night. I yelped Chavez park and only saw one review (thanks Kristin C.) but also noticed that it was very close to my house. I was amazed at how big this park is... It is larger than Kiwanis, which I thought had a huge man made lake. It took us about 25 minutes to circle the park and that was practically speed walking. As Kristin noted the amount of people at the park, for a weekday around 7 was overwhelming. I also could not believe how many people were fishing in the lake (Are the fish that swim around in a man made, stagnant, polluted filled lake really ok to eat)? Overall this is a great outdoor park and there are plenty of sports and activities to partake in, every one I passed was booked solid with people.. This is not the place to go if you are looking peace and quiet, but a family filled atmosphere and a frenzy of activity are sure to be found any time of the day. read more

Just moved to this area, We knew there was a nice park next to the high school. I just figured it was " just a park" we went there on a father's day night to walk the dogs. We both wore flips flops. As we walked over the small grassy hill from the car we shocked to see the "pond" we started to walk around the "pond" and realized it was a full on LAKE! What a nice addition to area! It took us about 40 min or so and we walked to entire lake. every step the lake seemed to grow larger and larger. We where shocked about the amount of people fishing. We even saw a few fish being caught The dogs loved it - everyone had their dogs on leashes. This is actually a pretty nice park. I was here recently for a birthday party on a Sunday and was impressed to see the expansive park, plenty of close parking, a nice water feature in the center, and plenty of shaded areas both for sitting or for laying down in the 'arizona' grass. I think this is a nice addition and nice feature to the S Phx/Laveen area and I hope they continue the maintenance of this place because it is an attractive place to get together with family and enjoy the few cool months we have left. read more

Third visit to the (small) dog park and second time I've been peed on. Lots of aggressive or apathetic owners who don't seem to want to control their dogs around other dogs and people. It was frustrating to me and frustrating to my dog. I'm thinking I'll probably have to make a drive to get to a dog park where I don't have to guard my dog and myself the entire time and feel like I have to watch my things and ward off aggressive owner and dog behavior. read more

I like to take my dog here for a walk on the weekends. It is a very nice walk around the lake. I was surprised the first time I went because the lake is HUGE, definitely bigger than I was expecting. The lake is stocked and you can fish and take home certain amounts of each type of fish. I saw someone's catfish they caught and it was huge! As someone mentioned there is often people fishing with there equipment and lines blocking the walkways. Also, most people are nice and friendly but there does seem to be some of the shadier variety of people at this park and certain parts of the lake have trash floating(but only a small portion). Just be sure to clean up after yourselves people! It is definitely a nice change to just walking your dog around your neighborhood! read more

Cesar Chavez Park is located a quick 20 minute drive from downtown Phoenix (up the I-10 exit 35th Ave). It is a point of pride for South Phoenix as the home of the largest flat-land park in the City of Phoenix. It has a 22-acre Lake stocked by Arizona Game and Fish four + times a year with Catfish, Trout, and other. It's an awesome location to host a party - with shaded pavilions, may shade trees, lots of open space, and a playground for little children. The lake has a 1 mile jogging path around the interior (1 1/2 mile if you also included the path around the island). On weekends, you can find me walking my two dogs (leashed) around the park. There is also a boat ramp and I've seen many take their kayaks and mini-sunfish sailboats in. The park is also home to Aguila Golf course - one of the top municipal golf-courses in the country as rated by Golf Digest Magazine. As a matter of fact, an online search yielded the same rating 4 as The Boulders, Legacy, and the JW Marriott Desert Ridge. Some reviews talk about it being trashed or that it is dangerous at night. I will say, that after main occasions - Mother's Day and Easter and Community Events - the park is a mess. But otherwise, I don't see huge issues with trash - especially since most parks I visit throughout Phoenix seem to have the same issues with timely trash pickup. If I see anything out of the ordinary (i.e. graffiti or trash) I report it to the City of Phoenix and by the next day it is taken care of. Visit this gem. It's awesome! We are lucky to live close enough to use the park a lot! read more
