    Kite Festival!

Chavez Park: Such a great place for walks, kite flying and sunsets. We never tire of this amazing 90+ acre park.

A pleasant surprise! I admit it, I expected a dumpy park. Boy was I wrong! Instead of small dumpy park, I was treated to a state-of-the-art, modern, clean park. There are beautiful views from many points in the park. The parking is easy, with portable restrooms right next to the parking area. They also have picnic tables with rubbish bins. This is a large, hilly park. The hill is in the middle. Expect lots of friendly dogs. Don't miss the memorial sculptures dedicated to Cesar Chavez. So overall, this was a wonderful visit. I'm happy to admit I was completely wrong about this park.

THE best place to fly a kite, period. Today, a small crowd was gathered to watch jet fighters flying around the bay, as part of fleet week. I like to fly my kites high enough to be a hazard to aerial navigation, but this was not an issue today. All anyone got to see was exhaust pollution settling over the bay - no sign of any Surrender Dorothy message. There's a ridge of sorts set back a couple hundred yards from the waterfront, where there's usually reliable wind. Today, most kite flyers needed to go down closer to the water. If you need a kite, please visit the Highline Kites truck. His story is that he started selling these things back in the mid-80s, and never got back to whatever career he thought he would have. He'll recommend the right kite for you, based on complexity, and your experience.

Our group selected our walk for Caesar Chavez Park. I was not familiar with this park and was looking forward to our walk. This Park is on the north side of the marina and you access it from Marina Blvd to Spinnaker Way where there are plenty of parking on the street as well as two lots. The park is 90 acres with a hill in the middle, which was a former landfill. The trails circles the park and up into the hill. We started our walk from the end of Spinnaker Way and the first thing you notice is the amazing unobstructed panoramic view from The Port of Oakland to The Bay Bridge to Yerba Buena/Treasure Island, San Francisco to The Golden Gate Bridge to Angel Island to Marin County to Richmond/San Rafael Bridge to Richmond to the East Bay Shoreline. We walked the perimeter of the Park and took a trail along the East Bay Shoreline to Golden Gate Fields and back for a great 5 mile walk. There were two set of portable restrooms along Spinnaker Way of the Park. This was a nice park, which exceeded by expectation. Even you don't plan on doing a walk, just coming here to admire the amazing views is worth it.

Beautiful and well maintained. So many dogs but we had nothing but a good time my dog and I. There were 2 drinking stations which was really nice. So many beautiful views including the Golden Gate Bridge and the Bay Bridge. One thing to be aware of there are signs stating which areas are off leash which dogs must be on a leash.

Hidden gem! Lived here all my life and not once went this direction on my rides. It has perfect trails to practice single track on a bike which I happily did. I practiced shifting gears up and downhill. Different terrain to practice on too. Nice little spot for picnics too. Beautiful for a walk, street parking, furfriendly.

Great park for a walk. Easy parking on a Tuesday at sunset. No sure how parking is during the weekend. I am just visiting from SoCal.

It's amazing to me how consistently windy this place always is, it's no wonder this is home to the Berkeley Kite Festival every year cause it's the perfect place for it. Originally named North Waterfront Park, it was changed in 1996 to honor the labor leader and civil rights activist, Cesar Chavez. I've done plenty of running as well as ran races around the paved path that encompasses the outer edges of this park, so I know it well. This place is also where people pack in every 4th Of July for the festivities and in the evening, the fireworks show!!

Beautiful park to visit especially when its sunny and clear! Tip bring jacket its windy ! This park was really nice to visit especially when the grassy field is green. Lots of both paved and unpaved trails to walk on. The backside of park is a nice place for dogs to play as its a dog park and to walk around. The whole loop from start to finish takes about 15 mins depending on walking or running speed, but walking is nice to be able to see the view! Parking lots of it both in the entrance of the park or on the side roadways where you can park anytime. Great park to visit and soak up the sun!

It's a green and blue gem in the middle of east bay... we missed our beautiful foster city lagoons and the views. But this park is definitely tops that with views of gg, bb, bay, lush green open park with blue bright sky and lot of open area for your choice of weekend activity. We had fun few hours flying our newly bought kite and walking the periphery. Already planning a picnic soon!

Beautiful park to ride your bike, take a walk, fly a kite, or have a picnic. On our walk we saw a place where you can rent kites! So don't worry if you forgot your kite or if you don't have your own. Soak up the scenery and enjoy the fresh air. Lots of space to promote social distancing. We're staying at the double tree Hilton which is only footsteps away. What a treat to be near a park!

Great path , good hills great vistas! Winston Loves walking here as unlike Point Isabel, human rule this park. Not that he's antisocial, just a lot of different things to smell and discover along a two mile path. Very blustery as it's directly across from the golden gate where the winds, fog and salt air swoosh in from the ocean. Kids, kites, kayaks, and picnics sail boats rule this area. The hill protects a nice picnic area on eastern center part of peninsula. This often taken over by folks flying radio operated planes and gliders. The north point of the island dogs can run loose off leash. And actually it's not as windy there either. And your view is of Berkeley and Albany hills. Definitely a three bridge view on the west side. Parking can be a challenge, especially during organized events like the annual kite festival. We get here before noon on weekends and parking Car-ma in full effect.

What a hidden gem nestled behind that 80 Berkeley/Emeryville traffic. It's a large park, grassy (thanks rain), number of trails some hilly others at the waterfront. Great for dogs, a stroll, hike or run. It's always windy though so you know the rule - be jacket ready.

This is not a "dog park"; dogs must be on leash. If you want to let your dog off-leash, try Point Isabel.

Do dog owners have to watch out for ticks?

Are the porta potties or any bathrooms open at Cesar Chavez park or any close by?

But there are lots of turtles and birds to watch. For picnics, there are tables and a large grassy expanse for laying down a spread and also playing frisbee. For a hike, the loop around the lake (pond?) is perfect for kids and adults who are able to climb rocks and scramble comfortably along a few narrow strips of the trail. There is a bridge and an area where kids like to explore the creek. There are other paths off the lake, but those do tend to have more mountain bikes. This is an especially nice park when we have our late summer weather in September and October. Plenty of parking.

The Good: *Free *Swimmable *There's a beach area** with actual sand *Fishing allowed (w/ CA fishing license [$62]) *±3/4-mile loop trail around the lake that has some gorgeous almost Hoh Rainforest-like vibes (IYKYK). *Restrooms** *Large paved lot The Meh: *Area has signs about a dangerous algae bloom in the water, so if you do go swimming, make sure not to intake too much water--and keep your pets away from it! *There's also signs telling you how to prepare any fish you catch here. The Ugly: *As the signs state "Rough Trail," and boy howdy is it rough. Especially when it's wet, as some of the trails around the backside were ultra thick, slippery mud which had us fighting for our lives! Bring a hiking pole(s) or a hiking stick to help with steadying yourself. Conclusion: Cool spot with a trepidatious hike that's for a good payoff. Gird your loins and just do it! **area was under construction when we visited in Dec '24, but we're assuming it'll be done by summer?

Peak My Interest…read more ***PLEASE NOTE THIS IS THE YELP PAGE FOR REINHARDT REDWOODS REGIONAL PARK*** I was attempting to change the name to the proper moniker that included "Reinhardt," but Yelp mods, being the highly regarded sort, somehow decided in their infinite wisdom that they should change it to "East Bay Regional Park District"?! What the what?? 0_o So, that's on me, kids. My bad. Onto the review... A giant ±1,833-acre redwood forest nestled in the Oakland Hills, this park was a former logging site back in the 1800s. Fortunately, there has been a nice resurgence of redwoods to replace those that were cut down. It ain't old-growth, but we'll take what we can these days. The Good: * Free at certain times of year and at certain entrances (more below) * Mountain biking on certain trails (check map and trail signage) * Horseback riding on certain trails (check map and trail signage) * Camping available (check website for info and reservations) * Reservable and non-reservable picnic tables (check map & website) * Restrooms available in parking lots, as well as at some campsites * Nearly forty miles of trails with something for everyone * If you're looking for a moderate ±4.5-mile loop, go to the Skyline entrance and take the Serpentine Prairie Trail to Dunn Trail to Golden Spike Trail, then back to Dunn Trail The Meh: * $5/vehicle entrance fee on weekends and major holidays between April and October, only at the Redwood Gate entrance * Most of the trails are pretty decent, but some are in rough shape due to water damage The Ugly: * One of the few parks I've seen with "off-leash" sections for dogs--which is fine, except you know there's a good majority of dog owners who think they can control their dogs but really can't. We saw a panicked guy chasing his dog down a trail at one point, and who knows when--if ever--he caught up to it. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ Conclusion: Great park with tons of trails and lots to see and do.

This park is fantastic. The first time we visited was back in 2018 and honestly we can't remember…read morewhere we parked or which trails we hiked. But I know we enjoyed ourselves. Fast forward to yesterday. We had a restaurant in Albany that we wanted to check out so of course we had to hike first to get our appetites whet. I found a loop I wanted us to try on AllTrails. It's called the Dunn Trail--Monteiro Trail Loop. We parked at the Richard C. Trudeau Conference Center on Skyline Blvd. It was the perfect spot to start. Free parking. Public restrooms (even flush toilets!). If you have a dog, most of this trail is off-leash which I have never seen before. Every dog we saw were well behaved and having a great time. We don't have dogs of our own but I am a big dog person. This particular loop was exactly what I was looking for. It had several different biomes. Despite what AllTrails said, it is not all shaded but it was a beautiful, sunny, windy day. We saw lots of wildflowers blooming. We found there to be a difference between AllTrails and our measurements. AllTrails said it was roughly 500+ ft elevation gain but ours said 1000. That's a huge difference! But I would believe ours over theirs. There were a lot of inclines. Also, their's said it was 3.5 miles but ours said a mile longer. The trails were all very well maintained. We saw gorgeous views, small waterfalls/creeks, redwoods, butterflies--just lovely. It was less busy than I anticipated but we arrived before 9 a.m. We finished by 11. This is a big park and lots to explore. Highly recommend!
