I stumbled across Collier Firearm Training via a random facebook add and reached out after keeping an eye on their postings for a good 6 months. I met with Mary the Collier Firearm Training instructor at the Alama gun range this weekend and could not had been more pleased with the experience. I got more out of Mary in the 1 1/2 hours I spent with her then I did in my previous (different instructor) 4 hour class as well as several previous shooting experiences. I now have a new founded confidence and I FINALLY look forward to my next visit to the gun range. Thank you Mary for the great experience! I highly recommend Mary to anyone who desires firearm training as you will not be disappointed! Michele D

In Florida we are a boating state. I've taken the on line boaters safety class and. Still wanted…read moremore. This class is not for everyone. Most enthusiasts will benefit from a basic course offered by the USCG Aux. Legally boats for hire must be under the license of a captain. I had three other friends who are graduates of this school. And while going through this journey you will get to learn along with 9 to 11 other students. My friends spoke highly of Capt Casey and instructors. I had to wait an extra month to get into this class as there was not enough students in December. This month we had a max. Of 12 students, but two dropped out after the first day for other reasons. This course has 4 major categories, rules of the road, chart plotting, navigation gen, and deck gen/ safety. Capt. Terry Kuykendall started by teaching us rules of the road and intro to chart plotting and Capt Joe Calzone taught us the rest. This school also has extra endorsements for towing, master inland, master near coastal, radio operator. Port security, I will have to say that the students in this course were from various backgrounds and ages. 3 of us were retired. Two were involved in marine sales and rentals. And a few were doing it for personal development. One student was sponsored by his employer. Class time is very intensive as they prepare you to think large like 100 gross ton 65ft vessels. Many of the rules are specific to inland waters and international rules are equally important. The weekday night class moves along quickly and we are tested each day after each topic you will be given immediate daily feed back on the information that you have reviewed. They did a good job of staying on topic as to not fly off on tangents. Most of our classmates were respectful to the instructor and other students. The instructors will teach but as students you will have to put in the time to review the manual and learn the procedures and formulas. Know chart navigation and identify signals both lights and sounds. Bells whistles and gongs. Expect it to be very difficult if you fail to study and put time in. The instructor was willing to help one on one if needed.

The trainer was clearly exhausted and wanting to go home rather than teach. He raced through the content at lightning speed and condensed a several hour training into 1/2 the time. No harm done to those of us already familiar with the material but the others were not prepared to do CPR well. The trainer actually told us to leave him a 5 star review and if we didn't like the training to "keep it to ourselves ". I would not be leaving this review if he had not said that.

How this is handled can be different to you, who is not involved in the system to a parent that is. So if you want to get a little more, get involved. The schools cater to below average to slightly above average. Below average get a lot of help, while very smart kids are left in the dark. Parents of exceptional students should be informed on courses that will stimulate, beyond what the school has to offer. In our case we were not. Nobody was. We had to figure advance course options like FLVS starting in elementary school, ourselves. There is nothing 'exceptional' about that CCPS. CCPS has a full time lawyer and because they create so many issues, just by being rude, they need it. The more issues that are created, the more job security the law department has, so they keep them busy with fresh issues all the time. Its not a satisfactory way to focus on education. And its gone on for decades. I could write a book about all thats CCPS has to offer. From the terrible parking for parents and students at Gulf Coast High School, to the bus drivers, some good, some bad. We could go onto the promoting of religion and religious locations being used for mandatory events by the schools. We could talk about the handing out of bibles on school campuses. We could talk about kids bringing weapons to school and the 'kick a Jew' day in one of the middle schools. Yes, we experience it all in little Naples.
