My brother is blind and is transported from his assisted living facility to dialysis three times a week. The drivers have consistently demonstrated genuine care and concern for their clients. On one occasion, a driver took the time to call me and let me know that my brother was not dressed appropriately for the chilly weather and that his pants were repeatedly falling down. It may seem like a small thing, but that level of attentiveness meant a great deal to me. The situation was addressed immediately, and I was truly grateful that the driver cared enough to bring it to my attention. There was also a time when my brother's transportation authorization had expired without my knowledge. I didn't realize there was an issue until he informed me that no one had picked him up for dialysis. I immediately contacted Star Nonemergent Transportation and was willing to pay out of pocket while we worked to resolve the situation. The dispatcher was incredibly patient and understanding, and continued to work with us while we waited for his transportation services to be restored. The process took nearly two weeks, but Star remained supportive throughout. What stands out most about this company is not only their professionalism and reliability, but also the compassion they show toward the people they serve. Knowing that my brother is being transported by people who genuinely care about his well-being gives our family tremendous peace of mind. Then he made a comment as he neared my address, and that was that his meter must not be working properly as my fare should be more like $15.00, rather than the $10.00 it ended up showing. He must think that I had naive or stupid written across my forehead, in order for him to make such an insulting comment for more money. First of all, if his meter was not working properly, that would be HIS problem, not mine and I don't care. But to attempt to extort extra money from someone just being released from the ER, is unconscionable.
