Joe was one of the weirdest dudes I ever met at a gun store. First thing he said was it looks weird that the buyer walk-in with the guns which we came in the same car and he is my cousin and I'm from out of town, then he questions my cousin for not having a gun safe which I understand, but I have not bought a gun since 2024 so we didn't know. So I asked him is it a new law and he said it's been in effect for decades, which has been only be in effect since January 1, 2026. Crazy to think Joe manages a store and lies about gun laws. I'm not one to bitch but I'm getting hosed. I brought in everything to build a 1909 Argentine Mauser rifle and was told 4 to 6 weeks build. It ended up being 12. I didn't say anything. I get a phone call saying something to the effect of it's going to cost a lot of money, to which I said, "Let me know if it gets over 700 dollars" Well it turned out to be1500 dollars. I didn't complain. Picked up the rifle and didn't notice the trigger was super high in the trigger guard, making it essentially un shootable. I paid 1500 in cash for a build that isn't shootable. I used to just eat stuff like this but I am literally dying and would like t9 shoot this rifle. I get a return call today saying that I should have bought the stock from them and that they have too many jobs to make it right. In a nutshell, it cost twice as much, got shit work, and told to wait in line to make it right. Don't take tolerance for weakness. read more

For the casual shooter, Central Valley Guns can get you up or keep you shooting. For the beginner, they are an incredible wealth of knowledge. For the advanced shooters, there are plenty of stories to share and tips to be traded. They may not be the 'flashy' or a huge gun store, they are the most knowledgeable, helpful, customer-oriented store in town. Been to the others around the Fresno area but seems to me the smaller ones are way better than the snobby big ones. What they don't have on the shelves, they can normally get for you. Their service may seem slow, but it's because they practice customer service and believe in building relationships with their patrons, not just getting the wallet open! If you're just looking to buy a gun, you can go anywhere, if you want to make an investment, this is the place. I bought a rifle for a perfect price and were really knowledgeable in areas I am rusty but not the other I am a satisfied customer. Let me start by saying I buy a lot of firearms throughout the year. I hate gun stores. They're usually employed by arrogant know-it-alls that bloviate how smart they are and how stupid you are. Central Valley Guns is the exception. Marvin and Joe are the best at asking questions, finding what you need, and even sharing a story or two. They really do listen to you...and if you ask their opinion they will give it without being rude or rolling their eyes like you're an idiot for asking it. They go out of their way to even answer emails!! (Most gun shops ignore emails in case you don't know). They're a small shop but they have a nice mix of consignment and new guns...most of all they can get most anything you want within reason.....this is California. I went in on 3/23/2018 and bought a 410 shotgun that was on consignment that I saw advertised on Central Valley Guns (CVG) Facebook page. I asked why the guy was selling all his guns and was told they didn't know all the guys business but that he could no longer legally own firearms. I did the necessary paperwork and paid for the gun, DOJ paperwork and license. I told my 7yr old son I got us a shotgun that I could teach him to shoot with and he was excited. Then 5 days later on Wednesday 3/28 I get a phone call from CVG Nathan telling me that the firearm was supposed to be in to be cleaned and not for sale it was listed on "accident" and that I would not be getting the gun (although they said they legally HAD to sell it to me). I'm not the kind of person to try and take someone else's gun away so I said fine but it would be a day or 2 until I could come in for a refund. On the 6th day (Thursday 3/29) I got ahold of Joe on my lunchtime and asked for a clearer explanation as something wasn't adding up and was told it was part of a collection and meant for someone else. I went in to CVG after work and ask about any rights I have to the gun seeing as I was 5 days through my waiting period and was now told yet another different story that it was due to a divorce that some of the guns that were on consignment were not supposed to be sold. So my money was refunded and was offered a box of 410 shells which I don't have a 410 (that's what I was supposed to be purchasing). I declined which was like rubbing salt in a wound (because why give me 410 ammo when that's the gun you just took away from me) and then was offered a box of CCI mini mag ammo which I also declined as I didn't want a freebie just wanted the gun I bought. Now I look like a jerk to my son and had to deal with his tears because this store has incompetent employees who can't get their stories straight. I was given 3 different explanation's as to why I wasn't getting the gun even though they had already taken my money and done my background check I was just waiting out my 10 day waiting period. The owner of the store Marvin wouldn't even face me, he started to walk out of the back room and when he saw I was there asking questions he turned and went to the back again. You would think the owner would personally apologize for the incompetence and unprofessionalism of their bush league operation. I have called around to a few gun stores in Fresno and was told that this is gross negligence on CVG's part and that this is unheard of. This store handled the entire thing unprofessionally and I will not be doing business with such a dishonest business anymore. read more

I live in the Bay Area. I shoot a lot and visit 6-7 gun shops in the South Bay. In general, customer service is bad... Most employees seem to treat most customers they don't know as idiots.... Possibly for good reason ... I am very impressed with this shop and will make an effort to buy supplies and firearms from them when I am in town. It is very rare to see employees at gun shops really putting out an effort to give service. Sure, they don't have much in stock, but these days, nobody does. Recently stopped in to conduct a private party transfer (PPT) of a firearm. As soon as we walked in the front door we were greeted with a smile and a friendly hello and welcome.
