J. Corrigan - Concrete landing

J. Corrigan

My roof was completely replaced one (1) year ago. I have waited intentionally one year to write my…read morereview to make sure that there wasn't any problems to include in the review. My roof was leaking for some time now & I have been putting this repair off, too long. Now my mother-in-law is coming to visit & I'm in a bind. I called J. Corrigan for an estimate. Let's start off by saying that J. Corrigan met every deadline, every commitment & every promise he made. He said that his estimate covered everything & that there would be no extra charges for any rotted wood & he kept his promise. His estimate was high, but he could start right away. I was stuck! J. Corrigan removed the old roof completely & installed the new roof including four (4) sheets of plywood. It's been a year now & during that time we have had two very heavy rain storms. One in fact was the heaviest rain I have ever seen! The roof performed flawlessly! It was the best money I ever spent. That was the good news, now for the constructive criticism. As any good businessman would do, J. Corrigan found three other repairs that needed attention. 1. Gutter replacement. 2. Rear chimney complete rebuild. 3. Repair & repaint the family room ceiling where the bad water leak was. I later had a painter repair & paint my family room ceiling. His price was almost identical to the J. Corrigan estimate. Although, friends later told me that I paid too much for the family room ceiling. Rear chimney. This wasn't a surprise to me, I could see bricks chipping & falling apart! I saw the need for this repair a couple of years ago. J. Corrigan verbally gave me a price of $6000 in April 2017 for the chimney along with an explanation of the repair. When he came back in March 2018 his written estimate was $9000 for the chimney & same repair. The large increase didn't sit right with me, so I started calling around for other estimates. I went with a chimney guy that did this work for two friends who gave me first hand accounts of his work. The "other chimney guy" did 90% of the work that J. Corrigan estimated for less than half the price. Granted, this is not an exact comparison, but this was a huge price difference! The "other chimney guy" did a good job & was satisfied with him. To sum it up, J. Corrigan did an excellent job on my roof, I would recommend him to anyone, but consider the price when looking around. I still think he did a great job on the roof & some things you don't skimp on.

We hired CORRIGAN to replace a concrete front landing in 2016 that was constructed initially in…read more1953. We paid $3700. By 2022 it was spalling. We called CORRIGAN and he took no responsibility but said he could redo it for $5000. We agreed reluctantly. It now exhibits substantial cracking and breaking pieces. It appears that CORRIGAN does not have any employees. Rather he seems to be a middle man, subcontracting any job he gets, while approximately doubling the subcontracting fee. This has value if he utilizes competent subcontractors. Unfortunately it was not the case in either instance. You can use Google to search for a contractor, close your eyes, point at the screen, and have a better chance of finding a competent contractor than by calling CORRIGAN. Even if you pointed at poor choice, you could repeat the process and find another contractor while likely spending less money than you paid CORRIGAN
