Tucked behind the semi-public sports field typically used by organized sports teams, the park is easily accessible with plenty of parking spots. The ramps make it easy to load and unload passengers and stuff for your day out. The picnic tables and barbecue pit is great for hosting mealtime and celebrations but we found that the grassy field was just as good if you have a canopy available. The flooring is quite flat and well maintained for the most part. If you have children with you, the playgrounds offer ample space for them to imaginary play and work on body control. The flooring is padded so no worries about splinters from bark. They have a smaller dedicated playground for younger children that has slides and climbing structures. Swings are found in the middle and are low enough for younger children to clamber on. A rope structure offers some more advanced climbing and the larger structure has some taller slides for those thrill seekers. I found that the basketball courts are typically taken but if you're looking for players, you'll have your pick here! The bathrooms are accessible and are relatively well maintained. There's also a water fountain if you didn't bring your own fluids. Overall, Karl Nordvik Park is a solid park for children, families, and sports enthusiasts. The park has been around for a long time and it's been upgraded recently and it seems to also be better maintained since. If you need a place to relax or looking to embark in some park related activities, Karl Nordvik is conveniently located near the bridge and highway as well as many residential properties. Come check it out but be sure to bring your sunblock!

The play structures are partly enclosed by a fence with the only opening facing the big field next to it. There are plenty of benches within the play area and enough shade for guardian to take a breather while keeping an eye on their child. Play structures were relatively well-maintained. There was a variety of structures including monkey bars, slides, bridges, and swings. What was unique was that that the two main structures were connected with a built-in walkway and a series of bridges (yes there are multiple bridges for the kids to walk across). I'm not a big of wood chips so I was not too enthused to see the flooring covered with it. The swings had a little rust on the chains but not too bad. When we went, there were a couple group of kids from what seemed like summer school programs. There was still plenty of space for the kids to play. Overall, this was a great park within the heart of Newark and a nice alternative to Civic Center Park.

There's a large man-made hill between the park and the shore blocking any and all "sea breeze". With zero to no shade over the structure, it's safe to say we didn't stay here long. The park is pretty large with two ball fields and plenty of grass in between (no permanent outfield boards so it's essentially a huge open field with some dirt and a backstop on either corner). The entire park has paved sidewalks all around, especially near the playground where the sidewalks weave in and out of picnic tables and a man-made grove of small/someday giving shade trees. That's one thing this park really has going for it, there's a lot of trees. The play structure is in a circle format with bridges or a crawl tunnel connecting platform to platform. This format really allows for younger children not yet ready for the suspended lily pads or monkey bars to have fun and enjoy the entire structure. There are three slides (sidewinder, tube, double), steps, various ladders, activities, and the before mentioned crawl tube that can almost act as a fourth slide because of the angle. No swings or playground extras. While there is a parking lot and bathroom it couldn't be any farther from the playground. We parked on Point Lobos Ct which is much closer to the playground but we still had to walk a few minutes to get to the playground since it's tucked in the back corner. This park is great for biking and scootering or even stroller walks since it has a lot of long sidewalks.

I've called Kimber Park my home for more than half of my life, and Buena Vista Park is an irreplaceable facet of this community. It's small, quaint, and has everything you could want in a small neighborhood park. The playground has swings (my favorite!), with two big kid (adult?) and two baby swings. There's a playground structure, complete with slides, climbing bars, and a tic-tac-toe wall. Oh the days of Hot Lava Monster! There are two wooden benches to rest your weary legs, and a rough basketball court with one hoop. The expansive green field with huge trees decorating the edges of the park makes the park an ideal spot to play sports, bring your dog, or just lie on the grass and chill. I've seen people fly kites and throw frisbees, and around the perimeter there is the occasional biker and jogger--hopefully, that'll be me more often haha. I have yet to see the park filled with people to the point of noise pollution and people congestion, which contributes to the serenity of this spot. There is no parking lot, but most visitors are local community members, and there is parking along the borders of the park for those with vehicles. The park closes from 30 minutes past sunset until dawn. But, between you and me, some of the best moments in this park are at night when you and your friends can sit on the swings, stare up at the vast night sky, and marvel at the beauty of the peace, leisure, and life.

We certainly enjoyed a couple hours of play time on a Monday afternoon, lots of privacy, with hardly any visitors in the park at all. There's also the added convenience of a restroom and parking lot right next to the courts, so that's a plus. The rest of the park includes a couple playgrounds in a sand pit, a few benches for sitting, a large grassy field, and some oak trees, though not enough shade for comfort on this scorching hot sunny day. Nothing too exciting about this park, but it fits your basic needs and is located in a quiet neighborhood. And again, what matters to me, a simple no-frills spot to enjoy some pickleball for free, hopefully for the long-term.
