Ask the Community - Central Nursery School

What is the earliest age for enrollment? Do they offer part-time?

They accept at the age of 2. Potty training is done there. Beautifully. When my daughter attended, they did offer a PT schedule.

We looked at many preschools, but none of them felt quite right until we toured SJMS. The staff is extremely conscientious, engaged, and dedicated to the children. While many schools claim to be Montessori, many don't actually adhere to the principles very closely. SJMS is a true Montessori school, taking the time to not only practice the Montessori method but also to educate parents about the method. The school is small, just two classrooms with two dedicated teachers in each classroom, so the student-teacher ratio is quite good. My eldest graduated preschool from here which definitely prepared her for kindergarten. They have a beautiful program - structured play, circle time, fine motor skills, arts and crafts, academics, practical life skills - everything is play driven and fun for kids. The teachers went above and beyond to accommodate my child's medical needs, and I can never thank them enough for all the support and love and care they have provided. Now my youngest attends here and she loves this place just as much. The owner Ms. Ritu knows the students and families. She is hands on and accommodating. I highly recommend this place. I found them through a mom's group because I heard they are affordable and they potty train your kids! We tried everything in the book and the advice from other parents but nothing worked. That is, nothing worked until a few weeks after attending this preschool. The rates differ for potty trained and not potty trained. As soon as my little one was consistent, they switched to the potty-trained rate. Thank you! They provide food and snacks (included in the price) and the school is opened as early as 7:30Am-5:30Pm. This was one of my favorite things about the school . We did the 8hr/day, 5d/wk option and it was amazing. My daughter was there for a year and we wish we could keep her there but she had to move on. My daughter learned a lot (zoo phonics, reading, writing, cutting, geography, biology, the planets, etc). My 4 year old surprised us with naming the continents and saying significant things about each continent. She recited the anatomy of an insect (including the thorax)! She told us about the flower's stamen, pollinators, chlorophyll, and photosynthesis! She's 4 years old! That's insane and we are super happy. You also get to keep a binder of your child's work and you can see the progression on top of the crafts and projects they send the kids home with. The holidays are festive too! She loved the school and didn't want to leave. The school provides a monthly newsletter, the curriculum for the month, and the lunch menu. As parents of a tough- minded child, the partnership we had with the teachers helped keep our little one's attitude on check at home. With that said, we gained friendships along the way. These people are caring and we always felt like our child was in good care under their supervision. We highly recommend them!

The school does not prevent parents from entering the campus whenever they want to. This builds trust that they arent hiding anything 2. My daughter struts around like she owns the place, that only happens when every person on the campus has worked to make the children feel at home. They put up chairs on the table as if they were done for the day, which children could knock over and get injured. Shouldn't the place be kept safe and enjoyable by children until they are picked up by their parents? 5 minutes into the tour, I saw a teacher spraying some sort of liquid everywhere (while children were still running around right around her), including a table where two children were still sitting at and eating their snack. I asked the director if that bottle is diluted bleach liquid, and she confirmed yes. I do want to emphasize that the teacher with the bleach bottle was spraying it so close to the bowls/plates the children were still eating from. Children could not only inhale bleach liquid if you spray that right around them, they could also ingest it if you are spraying it right around their bowls/plates. We ended the tour right there and walked out. My husband and I have been touring many daycares and preschools, and never felt the need to write a negative review on any of the places, including the ones we felt weren't up to our standards. However, for this place, as a mother, I felt responsible to write this as soon as I walked out the door as a warning to all parents who are currently sending (or thinking about sending) their children to this place. I want to ask the teachers and staff at this place. Would you spray bleach liquid right next to your own children while they are playing and eating?

No praise is high for Ms Priya and for the institutions she has built; she is a woman of ethics, integrity, and above all a genuine love for kids, their education, and their growth; this affection and care cannot be faked, or we would have noticed it in our 7 years of having our kids be entrusted in her hands. She has always been very responsible, responsive and ever ready to ensure we (along with all the other parents) feel like their kids are safe, taken care of, learning and growing in this tender age. The San Jose location did have a bit of a churn with teachers a year or two ago and Ms Priya took actions and kept parents informed and updated on what she's doing and why. But beyond that, we have never had health, safety, care or growth concerns with either of our kids. To sum it up: we cannot recommend Ms Priya and her schools highly enough!

There had been a lot of feedbacks and playground talks among parents that Challenger had a very strict culture and tough curriculum that not every kid can handle and adapt. The feedback is that usually boys that have high energy and too active will get into trouble a lot. To our surprise, he loves the school just after 1 week and always looking forward to going to school in the morning, we also see a big difference in his English speaking ability and his independence in behavior. We are assured to let him continue with this school for the next coming years. We want to give special thanks to the 2 teachers Miss Hemanth and Miss Sonali for their loving care and coaching, we can tell he is very happy with them and there is the strong teachers-students chemistry we observed. Kids usually are very pure and express directly what they feel so we are very assured when he nods and say he likes his teachers and wants to go to school. From what I see so far, I believe Challenger has a very strong track records and is well managed across all their schools to groom the students to be academically strong and independent character especially needed in the competitive Bay Area. No wonder Challenger had been listed as one of the top private schools in US.

I assumed it was something her new teachers say, but she quickly corrected me: "No, no, Andrea says hurry up!" She then went right back to playing, laughing and calling out, "hurry up hurry up!!" That moment alone speaks volumes about how much Andrea means to my daughter. She started at Happy daycare when she was just 1.5 years old. As a first-time mom, I cried on her first day, and Arti sat with me, gently reassuring me that we just needed to give her time to build trust. I can't express how much it meant knowing they understood this was her first time away from home. Within a week, the tears stopped. On her last day, I was the one still in tears because Andrea wouldn't be caring for my little girl anymore. Andrea is incredibly kind and patient. She cared for my daughter with so much warmth that even on weekends, my little one would ask to go see her and this happened more times than I can count. I never had to worry about food it was all taken care of at the daycare. During a medical emergency with my daughter, both Andrea and Arti stayed with her until I arrived, then remained by my side as we figured out the next steps. My daughter still misses Andrea to this day, and I know she will for a long time.
