Beyond fresh, marbled to perfection, they were delicious. This morning I cooked the sausage and made a cinnamon roll sausage egg bake and also absolutely delicious. Sustainable farming is a way of ensuring that the land, and all its resources are maintained for future generations. Promoting soil health, managing water runoff and using natural fertilizing techniques are all ways that they are being good stewards of the land. This has always been a way of life, but the business of Coastal Cattle began as an idea of their then12 year old daughter in 2014, and has expanded since then. She wanted to use her knowledge of cattle gained through local 4H livestock club and start a herd. Her very first project steer at the age of 10 was a Hereford and she instantly fell in love with the breed. They are docile, easy to work with, great for children to be around and of course beautiful! ​ She and her sister helped to pick out the first bred heifers and cows that started Coastal Cattle. The original idea was to start raising pure-bred show cattle to be used for our local area 4H Livestock shows as well as other regional livestock competitions. Showing cattle is a lot of work, and a lot of fun, but eventually they started thinking bigger. ​ ​ They were hearing the desires of so many people who want to know where their food is coming from. People want to be in control of what they put into their bodies, and they quickly saw and understood the need for a good product. So expanding into the direct marketing of the beef produced by the ever expanding herd was the natural progression of the farm. ​ Incorporating rotational grazing, and the herd into other farming practices has proven beneficial for the land and the farm. They go hand in hand, crops and livestock. Not only are they producing a good product for the consumers, but they're protecting our natural resources as well.

Most butcher shops have the full 15 lb brisket but nothing smaller, Village Butcher had an 11 lb brisket. Headed to the shop and found it to be clean and bright, with a large display case full of options. The shop owner was pleasant and professional. We got the brisket and added 4 lbs of burger meat. We taste tested the burger meat vs some store bought that we had and obviously everyone preferred the flavor and texture of the Village beef. The true test came the next day with the brisket. First time making the recipe and it called for 6.5 hours in the oven. Completely covered in foil, so we had no idea how it was going. It came out fantastic, super tender with great flavor! Village is worth returning to!

I expected at least a basic apology or some attempt to make things right. Instead, I got smug indifference. No ownership, no urgency, no concern. His "solution"? Offer me whole chickens cut into quarters at nearly THREE TIMES the price. That's not a solution--that's taking advantage of your own mistake. When I asked how something like this even happens, his response was essentially: "Well, I guess they wrote it down wrong." That was it. No apology. No effort to fix it. Just a shrug wrapped in arrogance. This wasn't a minor inconvenience--this was a complete failure in customer service, communication, and basic professionalism.
