Before any materials were ordered or work began, we submitted the required application to our HOA for approval. Unfortunately, the HOA denied the request and would only approve a black metal fence. As soon as I received the denial, I contacted Fence Mall and explained the situation. Since I specifically wanted a vinyl fence, I decided not to move forward with the project and requested my deposit back. They agreed to refund it, but told me they would keep 35% of my deposit as a cancellation fee. $600 To my knowledge, no materials had been ordered and no installation work had started because everyone was waiting for the HOA's decision. Despite that, they kept approximately $600 from my deposit. I understand that businesses need cancellation policies, but charging such a large fee before any materials were purchased or work was performed is unfair. I was unable to proceed due to circumstances outside of my control, and I don't believe keeping hundreds of dollars in this situation is reasonable. Specially with todays economy I hope Fence Mall reconsiders how it handles situations like this, because it left me feeling like I paid $600 for absolutely nothing. In three years I contracted them for three different fences at my home, I raved about the quality because although every time the employees would leave there would be horrible problems with the work, one call to Myra or Jose and they would be at my home the next day and not only make them correct it, make them tear everything down and re-do it correctly. That is why I continued to patronize them, because of Myra and Jose! I called for my fourth fencing job and was shocked to learn that not just Myra, but Jose as well had both left the company they had been with for years. This was very unusual as they had taken such good care of me year after year I thought of them like family. As fate would have it I came across Myra who left with her many, many years of excellent customer experience and knowledge to launch her own business, a business that provides a far superior quality, much more more budget friendly, fair and honest, not greedy and trying to get your last dime, a family owned company where they are not happy until you are happy. It turns out that when Florida Fencing was here they noticed where my previous three fences from another company were improperly installed, posts not cemented, one was being put in new and split upon hitting a rock, instead of fixing it they left it there (I never would have know). I also took my 6-foot step ladder out and looked where the previous fence company used a nail gun to attach the board on board fence and they missed the board to nail the pickets on entirely (will post a picture on their feedback page) and Florida Fencing without even having me ask them to repaired my fence installed by a competitor for free. The Owners husband came back for a third consecutive day (a SUNDAY at that, and IN THE RAIN) to install my small 3 or 4 foot fence between my neighbor and I who each have puppy dogs that love to dig. My dog, Miss Foxy, she digs under everything - and I decided the short wooden fence would help. I was talking to Freddy, one of the owners, he commented on the bricks, stepping stones and various objects I had lined along the neighbors chain link fence and explained to Freddy what a little digger she is. Freddy was out there on a Sunday, in the rain, and not only did he install my fence for me, he took the time (and I did not know this until I just discovered it) he took a shovel and by hand Freddy dug along the entire fence line, buried all the rocks, stones, pavers, etc, covered it all with dirt and installed the fence on top. Miss Foxy was none to happy when she went to dig under it - I was elated! Where in Florida - or anywhere for that matter, do you find a Company that cares about their customers, is that creative, does so much more than you even know and never charges you or even brings it to your attention and did not mutter so much as a singler negative word about their competion. They were on a mission - a mission to make me the beautiful, "quality beyond what I can describe in words in pictures" fence, true craftsmanship, and at a price the others would not entertain. I am so loyal to Florida Fencing now, if you are still not convinced after reading this review (and I write a lot of negative ones as well - I am truthful and tell it how it is). What was supposed to be a straightforward fence installation turned into an absolute nightmare involving financial overcharges, property damage, and official legal violations. We contracted them for a $6,019.00 fence project. Per our explicit agreement, they were completely responsible for securing all city permits and HOA approvals. They completely failed to do so. Because of their negligence, I have now received an official HOA violation notice because the fence is entirely non-compliant, unapproved, and has to be torn down and changed. To make matters worse: 1. Gross Incompetence: They mismeasured the property on the first two occasions. Instead of taking ownership of their mistakes, they forced an extra charge onto my bill for their own measurement errors. 2. Property Damage: Their crew left significant damage to my grass and lawn during the installation. 3. Zero Accountability: Their communication is abysmal.
