What they found in my back was a typical "geriatric wart" which they offered a couple solutions for it. I had an appointment with Dr. Katelyn Kim and I was so impressed with my care. I've been seeing dermatologists for over 20 years and she is the best provider I've ever seen. She takes her time to sit with you and answer all of your questions. She explains it in a way that you can understand, but also gives great detail. I would highly recommend her! read more

I managed a medical practice for years, and was born into this quite literally. I arrived to an appointment on time and was made to wait at least 30 minutes. I did not object or complain. I completely understand. I grew up waiting for my parents one of whom was called out at all times of night for patients who had strokes and cardiac arrests, etc. On the next appointment I was 7 minutes late because I was standing in line. I was told to reschedule. Wow. That tardy was unforgivable. Interesting enough, someone very close to me was later turned away after arriving 20 minutes late, having traveled out of town to get there. The tardy was not bad because the office does not open until 0730, and patient arrived before 0800. This may be a case of the front desk looks for opportunities to not work, someone I would have fired from our practice years ago, or the doctor is arrogant or not capable of managing. I found it very strange because in our practices I recall our physicians and other staff juggling real emergencies, post-ops, and routine patients without fear we just could not manage. But of course. it is understood that tardiness is a factor with this dermatology clinic. The ability the pay is secondary, but the patient is last. Of course, dermatology is not a cardiology/internal medicine practice or podiatric surgical practice. So it is not going to be under those immediate pressures of myocardial infarction at the door or ankle hanging by thread of tissue. This practice claims to have a policy about tardiness that is unforgiving. Turning medicine into pettiness demeans the medical field. The receptionist never asked why? Patients need real concern in real life, not the treat like cattle option. Medicine does not need this stupidness. It is so sad, but the good thing is we now know this type of medical treatment does not need your money or insurance money because the egos are paid with much hot air. Pretensiveness will put you out of business or subject your business model to abundant stress and maybe you will faintcand someone will make you late. Also, it will put you in the limelight of forthcoming medical meetings particularly the unofficial kind that draw a good portion of the medical l community around the family dining room table. Dr. Kim's post wound care was horrible. I got staph infection due to her negligence. She stated there was no cost to seeing her for the would care but I was billed by LabCorp for labs I never consented to pay out of pocket. When I asked to talk to Dr.Kim, she never responded personally. I have a permanent scar and big blue/dark mark around the incision. I'm appalled that she would hide rather than apologize for the danger she put me in. I couldn't walk for weeks! read more

I have never been more frustrated with a practice. Getting ahold of ANY human being is impossible. I am miserable with ny conditon and need to know what to do. Have called and called, and can't get anyone to give me any information or advice. My actual doctor was great and I was momentarily hopeful. But I am back to the drawing board because I can't handle this level of poor communication. I hate how this awful healthcare system has us all being treated like lambs for the slaughter. And our doctors are the underpaod, overworked killing floor workers, shoving us through the machine as fast as they can go. read more

The doctor is not honest. In the visit notes she documents activities that did not take place. she fails to adequately explain the risks associated with treatment options. The overall practice is financially dishonest. When they received double payment for a visit deductible (I paid during visit and insurance company sent from HRA), they did not reimburse the overpayment. I want to start out by saying that I have been a patient of the Cary location for 6 years. I have had great service by the front desk-office staff, Dr. Gagnon, and Ms. McNamara. There has been a lot of growth with Central Derm within the last 3 years to now a total of 6 offices. That is a lot of offices but growth dictates and a long comes growing pains. I have experienced within the last 2.5 years an incredible slowness of telephone calls being followed up with and returned, turn around times for RX refills that require a prior authorization (specialty pharmacy) taking an incredible amount of time; my last biologic injectable that I have been on for over 1.5 years-same insurance-same specialty pharmacy took me 4 months to obtain...that is the gospel. The prior year it took 2 months to obtain. That is unacceptable just plain unacceptable but I decided to continue there because I did like my providers and I knew the practice was experiencing growing pains. Today, I arrive early and "on time" for my yearly skin check ( received several reminders via my email and confirmed via email reminder). I pay my copay, update my insurance (same as last year), and relay to front desk there was a balanced and my insurance company stated the claim had been resubmitted. I am told there is no balance and I take a seat to be called. Granted I was 15 minutes early but now it is 15 minutes pass my scheduled time so I go back to front desk to see if the back is running late or what? I am called to the front desk and told that I would not be seen today because I have an inactive account with the practice due to a pending claim to my insurance company. I explain, yes, I was aware of that hence that is why I asked earlier when I checked in. So, I am apologized to for this and my time and re credited my co-pay. So, the billing department who I left several messages for ( between the months of March-May 2024, for a visit from Jan. 2024, and even sent a copy of the EOB in question never contacted me with any message via VM or email but have now made me inactive. According to my insurance company and the EOB with said visit they paid the contracted amount and I am only responsible for the co payment. You cannot charge a patient more than or the remainder of a contracted amount for same CPT codes and DX codes. That is called a write off ; hence why providers tend to code as high as they can for certain procedure codes because they know they are going to have "write off". I've been in medical field over 27 years and I learn something new everyday but this I do know. Now I have got to find out where they have sent this for collections. So, New Year time for a new dermatology practice. I would suggest to the practice that they really need to get more staff for their increased growth primarily within billing and Preauthorization's ( hence both are insurance fields). I see that being a patient for 6 years is irrelevant it all comes down to the revenue- billing to call the shots. read more

Finding a kid friendly dermatologist is a little tricky but we had a great experience with PA Megan McNamara. Brought my "nervous" daughter in, Megan was sweet with her as she noticed my daughter was nervous. I always appreciate when doctors speak to the kids as patients. They did a little freezing on the bump, she was very careful and checked in to make sure my daughter was comfortable. I also got a little sample to put on the bump in case the freezing didn't do the job. Since I saw the PA- the appointment was scheduled the same week I called in. Very happy with the visit. read more

Went in to for a simple mole removal on my upper arm, that hasn't changed color or size in over the 20 years that I've had it. Dr. Miles removed it in under 15 minutes which went great, but that didn't stop CDC to take full advantage of me. Dr Miles said "they" had to test it. Well once "CDC" couldn't find anything abnormal and with Dr. Ruth Walters approval, and without mine, that sample was sent out to a 3rd party lab. I did express this to one of the multiple receptionists at CDC that I spoke with, and said they do tests in house. Only reason I know of this is because I received a statement in the mail. Ended up benign, no surprise to me but for something so routine and simple for CDC to do, I would not recommend going there to anyone. CDC Doctors apparently are incompetent to run a simple tests. I called and called with no resolution in sight and they don't care either, so be cautious!! Its worse than dealing with the veterinarian. read more

Dr. Gagnon was phenomenal! She was so patient with me and listened to all my concerns and frustrations. She was knowledgeable and super personable. My previous dermatologist made me feel like just another number and Dr. Gagnon did the complete opposite. Based on my first visit, just this past week; I give Central Dermatology 5 Stars for Quality Patient Care, but 3 Stars for pain management / patient comfort. First let me say that the PA, Anne Casperson, knows Her stuff and is quite thorough. I went to Southern Dermatology in Raleigh last year for a "Full-Body check", and ended up with a prescription creme to treat pre-melanoma on my arms. There were a couple of suspicious spots on my body that I had pointed out, but was told they were nothing to worry about. These very same spots concerned Ms Casperson enough to conduct biopsies, and it's a good thing. One on my nose, and one on my leg tested positive for basal cell skin cancer; both of these areas to be treated soon. As for patient pain management... I'd like to think that I have a good tolerance for pain, well, not really, but sometimes you just have to "man up", and take it... right? First issue was the lidocaine injections to numb the areas of biopsy. Lidocaine causes an intense burning sensation when injected locally. The burning is dependent on the rate of injection and the acidity of the solution. The burning can be minimized by slow injection An experienced physician can inject local anesthetic with virtually no discomfort if time and care are taken. Also, the addition of bicarbonate to buffer the lidocaine solution can reduce some of the burning sensation at the injection site. Many practices use a buffered lidocaine, apparently Central Dermatology does not. Ms Casperson allowed a New Tech to inject the area on my leg, which stung like the dickens! Much more so than it should have, as He obviously was not well-practiced. And then there was the liquid nitrogen treatment of two genital warts! Damn that hurt! I don't know if there was something that could have been done to minimize the pain, but after counting 8-9, or more applications of the Nitrogen to the first wart, I was about to scream, "just chop the darned thing off! I don't need it anymore! So perhaps, with just a few tweeks, this could be a 5-Star Practice. read more

This has been my go-to dermatologist since I moved here 5 years ago. I used to see Dr. Todd (who now only practices at Chapel Hill) and most recently I have seen Dr. Chang. I am always able to book an appointment within 2-4 weeks, which is really efficient compared to dermatologist offices in CA where you have to wait at least 3 months. I weirdly have had to come here once a year for random skin issues (allergic reaction, eczema) that pop up, and each time I am very pleased with my visit. The appointments are pretty quick and efficient, but never rushed. The intake staff is always really nice as well. While I can't speak to any experience with major skin issues, for minor issues, I would definitely recommend this office! read more

I had an appointment for a skin check @ 1:00 on Monday 9/18. When I arrived I was told that I missed my appointment because it was at 10:00am NOT 1:00pm. But I find it unacceptable that did not receive a phone call asking if I was on the way? I am a person who is always on time for appointments. I keep all of my appointments both personal and work related in my iPhone calendar. This appointment was confirmed @ 1:00pm a few days prior to my visit. But the person at the checkin desk didn't seem at all interested when I told her I drove from Fuquay Varina to Cary for this appointment. It was like well sorry you messed up and we don't have another appointment available. She was not at all interested in trying to accommodate my situation. I will not return nor will I recommend this provider to anyone in the future. read more

The office staff was friendly and professional. The doctor that examined me was nice, however I felt like he was in a hurry. I felt like a number and for this reason I will not return. Also, I am disappointed that this office location is limited on the services that offer. I think it's ridiculous that I have to drive to Chapel Hill for a procedure that's not offered at their Cary location. read more

It took 2 months to even get an appointment. I get it Covid..HOWEVER, I got a reminder email on Monday about my upcoming appointment on Friday. I went to my appointment and was told that "someone" called and cancelled it earlier in the week. I am certain that I did not call to cancel my appointment, "but" there was a small part of me that thought maybe I am crazy and I just don't remember, So, I checked my call list and had not made any calls to this office or their main line anytime this week or last. They were unwilling to even "fit me in" somewhere. I had to take time off of work for this and am not happy. Neither my husband nor I will be going back and would not recommend this practice. read more

I relocated to the area and needed a Dermatologist to continue my prescription. Well I'm so glad I chose Central Dermatology Cary location. I was assigned to Dr DeVries and I absolutely love how he took the time to make sure he understood what I knew about my own condition, and then explained to me some things that were detrimental for me to know going forward. He was in no rush and I felt like he was really tuned in to what concerned me. He kept asking if i had any more questions and he answered them all. I was in and out within and hour. I feel I'm in excellent hands!! read more

I was not excited about returning after my first visit. The Dr. seemed unknowledgeable and his attitude inspired no confidence in his ability. Upon my second visit, the doors were locked with a note saying the office was closed because the Dr. was sick. However, I had received no correspondence that they were not seeing patients that day or that my appointment would have to be rescheduled. read more

First visit a week or so ago was fine. However I am having a reaction to the medication with red blotches and severe itching. I called early this morning but my doctor was not there and her 'assistant' was 'not answering'. Was told that they will try to call back later or tomorrow but not a word since. Since I'm working tomorrow and can't answer my phone that will be a problem. Will have to find a doctor that has someone cover in emergencies. The doctors at Central Dermatology don't do that which is frankly pretty frightening and irresponsible. read more

Don't bother trying to make an apt if you have a current issue and need to be seen in less than a month. According to both the Cary office and the Chapel Hill location, this dermatology center does NOT see new patients for problem issues that need to be addressed right away - they refer you to your PCP instead.
