Sometimes businesses with high Yelp ratings disappoint, leading one to hypothesize that they must've paid some "reputation management" outfit to inflate their numbers through the use of shill reviews by AI-generated sock-puppet accounts. (Yelp tries to combat that but there's only so much they can do given today's scale of shady internet shenanigans.) Well this is one place that totally does deserve all its glowing feedback! This place turns out to be an owner-operated business, and I dealt directly with the owner who was a both very knowledgeable and relatable young man, I'm guessing in his mid 30s tops. The other two employees I interacted with were similarly very pleasant and helpful folks...none of the gruff or sullen vibes you often encounter from service workers in this region. When I told them that I would be going out of town in a few days, they expedited the work so that my car would be ready just in time---and most impressively, they kept me updated on its status (via both text messaging and email) nearly every day until I came back to pick it up! Not only was the work done flawlessly making the car look brand new, but they even gave it a free car wash AND full interior detailing! (It had been covered in road salt/grime from a recent snowstorm and I had not vacuumed the inside for almost a year, lol---so they got their money's worth from whatever car wash place they must've taken it to, lol.) I only wish EVERY business could be as damn near perfect as these folks, let alone car-related businesses! Bruce is a nice guy, he has run a nice business at Ideal for a long time. Bruce will regale you…read morewith nice tales about his dogs, and many things not related to your car for 40 minute stretches of time. In my opinion this is what makes Bruce ineffective. This a long read but do yourself a favor read it all, and take your damaged vehicle somewhere else! I purchased a Dodge Durango in February 2024, to use as a second vehicle for the winter, and to haul my Great Dane around. I made this purchase to save my daily driver from mileage and wear. Unfortunately I had an accident only two months later in April. I had a reputable tow company and they happened to tow the Durango to the lot right next to Ideal. My parents had done business with Ideal sim time ago and were satisfied with the result, so I took my parents referral. I even had to convince my insurance company to let me leave the car with Bruce at Ideal. They agreed. I gave Bruce the benefit of the doubt and did not even contact him until August, as he said he was backlogged until June. When I met with him in August, I was hoping the car would be done any day. However, he had not even started the work, claiming he could not a find a hood for it. He was so hard pressed to find one, he was planning to replace it with a different hood without even consulting me. I bought a 2019 specifically for the hood style, which he would have known if he even took the time to return my calls. I met with Bruce a total of 4x after that. The next time I had time to stop by was in September. I asked about the status of the hood and reminded him I needed the car before Nov 1st! for trips to CT, that I had to pick-up for my job! This is now 6 months of no progress! He had held me and my car hostage, causing me 24k miles incurred on my daily driver, and forced me to continue to put my large dog in that car, causing interior damage. All of which I was trying to avoid! The icing on the cake I feel is the next time in October I had time to see Bruce in person (I had called several times and he did not return calls) he had found a hood in Florida, and it was going to take several days still, and cost more to transport it than I paid for the entire car to be shipped from Miami! So I took things into my own hands, called a brother in law with an auto shop. He found the hood locally in Waltham the same day for less money. When I spoke to Bruce about this he was disappointed with himself. I asked if I needed to move the car, he said no. He said 'This will be my personal project.' When I saw him again a week later he had still not started. I asked again do I need to move the car, he said no. It was now November! I asked him what have you been doing, I thought this was going to be your personal project. His response 'Mostly taking to people.'. As I said Bruce is a nice guy. He's lost the edge in my opinion. Clearly my car was not going to be done for November 1st! I don't trust any of the information Bruce has provided to me to date. Here it is November 13th and the car is STILL not ready. I have no idea if I'll be satisfied with the actual work, frankly I'm concerned. Be wary of bringing your car here.

I bought this Jeep new and it never leaked ... until I made the terrible mistake of having Certified Automotive Disasters (Upham Street, Melrose) do a substantial amount of mechanical and body work (see my Google and Yelp reviews for details of that monumental debacle). I was almost ready to give up on the water leaks when I called a *real* body shop, Stephen's, to see if they would be willing to at least look at it. I wouldn't have blamed them if they declined to try to fix Certified Automotive Disasters' mess, but, luckily for me, they didn't, and I was able to quickly schedule a time to bring it over for them to assess. Enter Shawn Bolger ... although he rightfully made no promises, he said they would try to adjust the door to stop the leaks. I dropped off my Jeep the following week, and, to my absolute elation, their adjustments seem to have solved the dreaded leak problem. Although it didn't rain a lot this summer, we had several heavy downpours and occasional lighter rainfall, and every time, without exception, my Jeep stayed bone dry (including, most recently, the all-day heavy rain on Sun 09.13). To say I'm thrilled is an understatement ... until you've had a car that has water leaks, you don't know how life changing it is to again have one that doesn't. So thank you to Shawn and the techs who were not only willing to try to help a complete stranger with an unconventional request, but who also had the skill and experience to fix the problem. Sierra at South Medford Auto Body took over for me like an absolute queen and was able to tell off the insurance company, get my car fixed, and make sure I had zero down time without a fully covered vehicle. They have been flexible, communicative, and a godsend with how stressful every other aspect of this process is. The repairs were faster than expected, and the team here clearly puts in effort to guarantee happy customers--beyond some extra fixes, they even repainted a part completely unrelated to the incident, simply because the color mismatch "was bothering them"! Just an amazing level of service all around, so glad I live nearby! The shop is also walking distance (~2 blocks) to two different car rental shops, so you can skip any needless ubers. The estimates were also different in details - the labor hourly rate was the lowest (charging a private customer the same as what insurance would accept) and the emphasis is on repair rather than simply replace. I worked with Siera (the owner) the entire time, and she's very easy, professional, courteous to work with. When they identified additional damage inside, she sent photos and explained what is needed, what can be repaired, and what may not be essential. Very easy to work with. They also have an agreement with Enterprise Car Rental across the street for inexpensive/easy rental during the repair. For those of us who don't know much about cars (and especially not about body repairs), it's really important to work with someone/a business that you can trust, and that is also helping you to save a few dollars whenever possible - and South Medford/Siera definitely does that. Highly recommended if you do have to get body repair done! Oh, they also washed the car even though they had to stay late on Saturday to finish it. Really appreciate it.

We were told when we could drop the car off and how long it would take. Everything was done on time and they cleaned the interior of the car. I was very surprised ! If you need a rental , they can take care of that with an Enterprise agent who will meet you at the shop. When you get your final paperwork they give you cookies that are delicious. Great Experience
