Since my father was in hospice I was in contact with JoJo and her assistance and guidance have been invaluable. Our Funeral Director Carmen was so patient, professional and loving. The way she explained everything, especially, to our mother, was so touching. Andy and Rudy were great. I hope no one has to go through this but if they do, there is no better place than Ridge Funeral Home

The place is a two story funeral home and is very homey. When you walk in you just get a very peaceful warm feeling. The first floor is for viewing and the viewing room itself is very large and comfortable. They have a little area right off the front door for coffee and cookies and also a coat room. The second floor looks more like a house...you would never know you are actually in a funeral home. There is a living room with a fireplace, a seating area that leads to a full kitchen with a table. There's also a room for the small ones to go and hang out set up with toys, books and games. The home was all decked out in holiday ornaments and even a tree and was just very peaceful. It really gave you a sense of calm. It was definitely a sad day but the surroundings somehow helped with the stress of it all.

I cannot say enough good things about this funeral home and the kind people running it. My family I…read morehad the unfortunate task of organizing a wake and funeral for a loved one and happened upon Richard-Midway. It was actually the only local one we called (loved one passed away elsewhere) and we were certain right away. Jeff is the best at what he does. He went above and beyond to assist my family through this whole process, our meetings with him were hours long. I'm not familiar with any other experience to compare to, but he really did make it as smooth as possible under the circumstances. He facilitated the pick up of our loved one over an hour away without issue. He allowed us a private viewing before our loved one went to the crematory, to say our goodbyes. He reviewed all the necessary steps and kept us informed every step of the way. The evening of the visitation/wake we were greeted and assisted by Jeanette who was wonderful as well and really compassionate to our family and guests. They had all of our flowers set up beautifully when we arrived. It was nice to have the use of the whole funeral home for our service because there were small kids who were running all over the place and I imagine would be disruptive if a second family was also in the building having a service at the same time. They have a refreshment room in the basement with an automatic coffee dispensing machine in a room with some tables with chairs which was nice also. My family brought donuts. Our service was 3 hours which was the perfect length. The next day we had a funeral mass at Our Lady of the Snows church to which Jeff had everything brought over (we didn't have to take it from the funeral home the night before back home and to the church the next morning, he took care of everything) which was a huge help. Jeff did the readings for the mass as well. He was very warm and kind with my family and guests. God really made a special one with Jeff, we really appreciate him and all of his work on our family's arrangements. It really made a heartbreaking situation more of a beautiful farewell. We are entirely grateful for that. Thank you Richard-Midway.

It's not often that one (hopefully!) has the opportunity to review a funeral home on Yelp. Our Dad…read morerecently passed and we decided to hold his service here, as this was his choice for both of his parents. This is a small family run home. My sister made the initial phone calls, and all went smooth. We met to finalize the arrangements on a Sunday morning and I really had no idea what to expect. Personally, I'd heard stories of inflated prices, funeral directors working the family's grief to leverage additional services and costs. NONE of those horror stories happened here. Andy was kind and businesslike- just what you need in this time. We had the facts, we had the choices we could make and he guided us through drafting the death notice. Everything came in at a cost that was at or below what we had expected. What impressed me most of all was how we were treated and even more, how my father was treated. We were given the space, and respect this occasion in our lives deserved. We were not directed or told how to do anything. The day of the service the gentleman that was there with us was also kind and helped us to give Dad a good sendoff. We were offered help in arranging pictures, flowers and music to our liking. Thank you Richard Midway for your service! You helped us in our time of need and I'm sure Dad would have loved it.

Mount Auburn Funeral Home & Cemetery - Unfortunately, after heavy rains, this is what a portion of the Chinese section of the cemetery can look like.

Buried here are my own father and both paternal grandparents as well as numerous in-law relatives.   So coming here for an annual remembrance visit or another burial is just a natural part of life for us and always has been.    My limited dealings with staff here has been fine.  The Chinese section has a small pagoda-like altar that you won't find in any other cemetery.  The grounds are kept clean.  There's nothing you can do if there's been a recent big rain, as the grounds will be soaked and there will be muddy puddles here and there.  It's not an ornate or picturesque cemetery by any means and it's located in the blue collar town of Stickney (not a knock but just saying).  It's also right under nearby Midway's flight paths, so low flying planes during any visit should not surprise you.  Much like Wrigley Field, no matter the apparent weather everywhere else, it's always colder and windy here and feels 10-15F colder for some reason.  It's just the nature of a visit here.   Overall though, they have done the job for us over the years.  Thank you.

It is in this large section of Mount Auburn in which a vast majority of Chicagoland Chinese are buried. The section sold to the Chinese is managed by the Ong Leong Association in Chicago's Chinatown. The Ong Leong built an altar monument for the Chinese who can burn offerings to the departed in the next life. There are many Chinese who celebrate their deceased on the one remembrance day.

This funeral home is nice but very simple as far as decoration. It seems like they got stuck in a time warp from the 70's. With its paneled walls and carpeting. Although still a bit dark for my taste. They do have lamps all around, but I think that makes it seem older. Most of the wakes I have come to here are from the neighborhood. Older Polish families, but with the influx of Latinos, times are a changing. I like the fact that although parking lot is small, its still can hold at least 30 cars which of course is not bad. The service was simple, they put snacks in the kitchen (which also is a bit on the older side), and well what else can I say. Would I have my own family for a service here? Ehhh, probably not, but it is simple and I am sure inexpensive. I asked my friend (yes we have a pretty good relationship that I can ask), if her family spent a lot here. She stated the reason they had it at this particular home is because their prices are compatible. But there you go.

We were very close to him and this was very emotional and difficult to do. We had never had to plan services and didn't know where to begin. We visited a few other locations in the area and were greeted in a very "business" manner. Although we were trying to fulfill our uncles wishes by planning ahead, some of the nearby funeral homes refused to discuss options in detail or show us caskets because he had not passed away yet. Despite my sister having legal documents to prove she was his power of attorney, one gentleman in particular told us that one of my uncles siblings had to be present to make arrangements as that was his next of kin. We left the location feeling very disrespected and disappointed. Im glad we left because upon entering Modell we were greeted by Mari. Our experience from that moment on was one we will never forget. She was very helpful, compassionate and patient. She took her time to show us around, answered our questions and never once did she question our intentions. She allowed us to pick out every detail without asking us for a dime. We then met Gloria and we felt right at home. My uncle ended up passing away later that week and we were glad were able to plan ahead. I can't imagine making arrangements during those difficult times. All in all I have much respect for this place and all of its staff. My uncles services were perfect and Gloria did such an amazing job with his makeup. Modell is family owned and we were treated like family from the moment we walked in, to when they picked up his body at the hospital, to the moment he was laid to rest. Im thankful for their team and I highly recommend their services.
