Mount Auburn Funeral Home & Cemetery - Unfortunately, after heavy rains, this is what a portion of the Chinese section of the cemetery can look like.

Buried here are my own father and both paternal grandparents as well as numerous in-law relatives.   So coming here for an annual remembrance visit or another burial is just a natural part of life for us and always has been.    My limited dealings with staff here has been fine.  The Chinese section has a small pagoda-like altar that you won't find in any other cemetery.  The grounds are kept clean.  There's nothing you can do if there's been a recent big rain, as the grounds will be soaked and there will be muddy puddles here and there.  It's not an ornate or picturesque cemetery by any means and it's located in the blue collar town of Stickney (not a knock but just saying).  It's also right under nearby Midway's flight paths, so low flying planes during any visit should not surprise you.  Much like Wrigley Field, no matter the apparent weather everywhere else, it's always colder and windy here and feels 10-15F colder for some reason.  It's just the nature of a visit here.   Overall though, they have done the job for us over the years.  Thank you.

It is in this large section of Mount Auburn in which a vast majority of Chicagoland Chinese are buried. The section sold to the Chinese is managed by the Ong Leong Association in Chicago's Chinatown. Burials plots and gravestones must be purchased through the Ong Leong Association. Four generations of my family are buried in Mount Auburn. The Ong Leong built an altar monument for the Chinese who can burn offerings to the departed in the next life. There are many Chinese who celebrate their deceased on the one remembrance day.

Please educate yourselves! Lengthy but worth the read…read more My mother passed away last week Wednesday (3/22/2023). It fills my heart with sorrow to learn how people, in such vulnerable mental state, are taken advantage of. The prices for a certification of death are absolutely out of line. I can only imagine how much profit they gain from all of this. Below is the breakdown of prices for the certified death certificates from Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) Division of Vital Records vs Kuratko-Nosek Funeral Home and Cremation Services. For clear reasons, I was in a frágil state of mind, and failed to add an alias name on my mom's certificate. I called the next day, and was able to make the correction. No problem. Upon pickup, I was charged an additional $70. All in all, I feel ripped off and taken advantage of by Kuratko-Nosek Funeral Home and Cremation Services. I cannot express this enough, do you research. It's uncomfortable, I know, but reality is that death is inevitable.

They expressed zero empathy…read moretowards the privacy of those mourning, and were incredibly pushy about their time restraints, even though yelp says they are a 24 hour open business. Here is a list of the things they did that were extremely unprofessional and unsympathetic. - As I was saying my final goodbyes to mi Tia: a tall, white, male manager with white hair insisted on interrupting my time with her to try and "clean up her jewelry" to give to the immediate family. - As we were reminiscing with fond memories de mi Tia, he interrupted someones story by reminding us that it was 7:55 and that the family had only paid to be there until 8. - As someone was in the bathroom before leaving, one of the staff members pounded on the door of the bathroom to get them to leave as soon as possible - The staffs overall demeanor felt closed off and rude. Even during their interactions with the family, and the blatant displeased reactions to said interactions, it felt as though they either couldn't pick up social cues, or simply didn't care enough to hide their urgency. Though I am understanding that the job of a funerary home director holds a heavy weight on ones conscience and requires a steadfast demeanor, it also requires empathy, compassion, and patience, none of which I felt during this wake. Though I was dealing with the grief of my Tia, the treatment of the staff made me feel as though our grief was nothing but a paycheck to them. Though this may not be everyone's experience, please keep in mind that how this establishment treats the grief of others isn't subjective to one family.

We went through the yellow pages and made a list of funeral homes to visit. Ivins Funeral Home was the first one we visited and ultimately the one we chose to have his services held at. The location, price and sincerity was by far the best of all of the funeral homes we had visited. David Moravecek is truly genuine, kind and professional. David answered every question and fulfilled every request of ours. He and his lovely wife treated us and our father with dignity and respect. The location was great, as it is on the edge of the nice little downtown area of Riverside. There was also plenty of parking. The funeral home itself was wonderful, as well. We actually had many guests tell us how comfortable they felt, and how nice they thought the place was. The services for the wake and funeral felt much more personal than they would have at one of those larger corporate owned places... and I'm speaking from experience, my son's services were held at one of those larger corporate owned places. Under the circumstances, my family and I ended up being very pleased with the way everything turned out and would highly recommend using Ivins Funeral Home for your loved one.
