This church is massive by today's standards. Think Renaissance Cathedral but it's not a Cathedral,…read morethe main one for this area is in Stockton. This church is a 2nd version of the original in downtown Modesto. The priests and staff are always friendly and helpful. The masses are acceptable lasting a little over an hour and the gospel interpretation applies to today and educational. They even have a 25 min. education for the young kids in the middle of mass! This reduces fatigue and restlessness for children. I knocked 1 star because it's often difficult to hear the main person talk. They tried to reduce this by adding carpets but the echo is prevalent and distracting. Apparently the architecture thought of mostly everything else other than how sound travels. Additional stain glass windows would have also been better.

This church is: Big. Spacious. Amphitheater-ish. Beautiful…read more There is plenty of space to accommodate even the largest of audiences. I remember the benches being a bit close to each other but that shouldn't be a problem unless you are carrying a huge purse/bag/backpack. ***Beware!!! I attended a wedding there and sometime during the ceremony, some people broke the window and stole the money of the bride's family. This was in 2015 so hopefully the theif confessed, repented and made amends.*** Although I am not a local, it is always a pleasure to visit this church.

As a member of the GLBT community, and knowing the proliferation of churches in the area, I was expecting an outpouring of support and love to help the grieving. Sadly I didn't see much, hardly any actually. It may be that there were private, or less openly discussed events at religious institutions, but in any case my search did not prove fruitful. Knowing that the College Ave congregational church is GLBT friendly I contacted the church and was invited to the service. The pastor spent a considerable amount of time talking with me and helping me process the grief. Their Sunday service had a lovely memorial , and lit 49 candles for each of the victims and asked the congregation to keep them in their prayers. I know choosing a church is an intensely personal affair that resonates with one's sense of self , and one's sense of the world view. My world view is that everyone deserves love and acceptance , and more than that . Everyone deserves to be celebrated , not just tolerated and begrudgingly accepted. I felt that here. I felt that no matter who I choose to love and be with I would be celebrated. And that's important to me. And that's why I write this review. That if anyone holds a similar view , and after Orlando , is grieving ... this haven may be an option.
