The decor looks a bit dated compared to say the newly constructed L.A fitness - but the facilities are quite comprehensive - I use the strength training facilities, my partner makes use of the included fitness classes, and my kids love the indoor play area and pool, and great outdoor pool / recreation area during the summer. Great place to host birthday parties too. Hard to find this combo anywhere else. I also find that Liberty being independently owned leads to better service than I experienced at L.A Fitness and Planet fitness - the people who work at Liberty have often times been around for years and seem to care more. If you are a solo adult, the extra cost might be harder to justify. But for our family, this is hands down the best fitness club in Ann Arbor.

My husband and I have been members of Liberty Athletic Club for the last year and I have nothing…read morebut great experiences so far. In the last year they've been renovating quite a bit to update the spaces, equipment, etc, which has helped the overall vibe. They started by painting and reflooring the main workout room and are currently renovating and updating the indoor lap pool and hot tubs/saunas. The locker rooms are clean and the lockers are easy to use. The workout equipment is in great condition and even during their busiest times it's easy to get a treadmill or a bike. Plenty of TVs and things to keep you occupied with as well as you're huffing and puffing along. They have a few rooms for specialized classes--group fitness, spin and yoga. Now, I've only done the yoga classes so I can't comment on the others but the yoga classes I've attended were good (restorative yoga). I've always felt a million times better coming out than when I went in. There's a lot to do for families too. With a big kid's complex with a play area, rock climbing wall and indoor water park for fun during the winter months (also open in the summer). The outdoor complex is awesome and open Memorial to Labor Days. To be honest, this was the selling point for me. They have a few lap lanes for adult swimming (yes there are only two but I never had a problem getting a lap of my own this summer and I went several times a week) a bigger "play" area in that pool for the older kids/teens, and a splash/smaller pool for kids with a nice water slide. The outdoor cafe area has beverages, smoothies, frozen yogurt, and a few hot items for lunching. There's a small playground and even a few holes of mini golf in the complex as well. Plus outdoor tennis courts, of course. The club is big on tennis and they have a ton of courts inside as well. Plus classes, teams, and more. I feel like there's always a tennis club gathering when I'm there. There's a small indoor cafe as well with snacks, water, smoothies and such. They close around 7:30pm every day so it's more for lunch or a post-work pick me up before your workout. They have a small spa area upstairs with pedicures and massages. When you join you get a coupon for either or so I booked one and splurged on another. Great solitary environment. I had a beautiful pedicure and one of the best massages I've ever had. It's just a little pricey to do often, but if I could I would. It's definitely not a cheap membership, but I get a generous stipend from work for a fitness membership which covers most of the cost. If not for this I'm not sure I could swing it. But since I can, I try and make the most of my membership.

Had a great experience here!…read more 10 stars for the staff (seriously such nice and knowledgable humans), but not so many stars for smelling like a sweaty gym. The restrooms were very clean though! So it's been about 15 years since I've done any belaying and ~nearly 10 years since I've done any bouldering! Basically a newbie all over again. Both rooms (one side is belaying, top roping and the other for only bouldering and competition bouldering) were PACKED on a Sunday afternoon. I'll be back to do a starter package sometime, and I'l have to find a time that's a little less crowded. It did start to clear out around ~5pm-ish. People are very respectful of others' space and move quickly so I felt like I always had something to try. Lots of kiddos here too so fairly family friendly place. They have staff around the rooms too in case you need anything. Ethan was great! It's also pretty sweet that they have a full coffee shop set up in there too. Some people were just sitting, reading, chatting, etc. The offerings look tasty!

The ping pong table gets wild and competitive with some older gents that will pause when you walk by to the women's locker room that connects to the pool. I have tried the water aerobics classes, but I stopped during the winter because the pool wasn't warm enough for me. The Wednesday night water aerobics instructor is amazing.

But what it has in comparison to the other two buildings does not make up for what it lacks. Just like the NCRB, there's AC all over the building! What I like about the IM building better than the NCRB is that the equipment isn't so close together, so it feels more spacious. The views from the windows are also more scenic than looking out of the NCRB. However, I think the IM building has less equipment than the other two recreation buildings. But I find that fewer people go to IM. I also dislike how IM does not have an indoor track, nor does it have any free lockers, or at least ones I could easily find.

I remember…read morebeing frustrated about having no choice but to work out at the CCRB when the IM building was closed. Fortunately, the upgrade was worth the wait! A previous reviewer described the gym as "state of the art." I think this is accurate. I was amazed when I first walked in soon after the renovation. It's bright and clean, and all of the equipment are updated. I like the open floor plan of the main weight room, and I usually don't have to wait long for a bench or machine. There are plenty of benches in the free weight area and sufficient mirror space. The eight squat racks and three deadlift areas are beautiful. I use the room across from the racquetball courts pretty often, and it's usually well-kept. It offers everything from kettle balls to boxes to TRX cables. I also use the two cardio rooms sometimes. The one on the second floor has some lighter weights and machines as well as treadmills and ellipticals, and the one on the third floor has rowing machines, treadmills, and Stairmasters. A unique area of the building is the lounge between where you enter and the weight room. There are TVs, foosball tables, and even a desk attached to a treadmill. The only thing I'd change about this gym is the availability of lockers. There are only about six tall lockers, and usually they're all taken during busy times. Other than that, I love working out here! I choose this spot over the CCRB always.

I recently visited Crunch Ypsilanti and wanted to share my experience regarding a few concerns I…read moreencountered during my visit. While the overall atmosphere and amenities were satisfactory, I did notice a few areas that need improvement. The equipment itself is good but it is not properly maintained. One of the main concerns I had was the cleanliness of the equipment. Both parts that members would be responsible for and parts that staff would be responsible for showed signs of neglect. For example, I noticed that the staff was not consistently cleaning around the base or using silicone spray on guide rods. This resulted in many things feeling "chunky" and rendered some equipment unusable. I believe it's important for the staff to prioritize regular maintenance to ensure the equipment is in proper working condition for the members. Another improvement that is needed is the availability of paper towel cleaning solution stations, particularly in the vicinity of the squat racks. I found it challenging to keep the area clean during my workout due to the lack of convenient access to cleaning supplies. Having more paper towel cleaning solution stations placed strategically throughout the gym, including near the squat racks, would greatly contribute to maintaining a clean and hygienic workout environment. One of the main issues I encountered was the presence of weights left on the floor. This made it difficult for me to find appropriate weights for warming up. I had to spend several minutes removing plates from machines to adjust the weight to my desired level. This could be discouraging and inconvenient for newcomers to the gym. It would be helpful if the staff took the initiative to ensure that weights are properly returned to their designated areas, and patrons were encouraged by staff to re rerack, promoting a more beginner-friendly environment. Another concern I noticed was that the lat pull machine was missing a pin to adjust the thigh pad. This made it challenging to achieve proper posture and comfort during my workout. I recommend that the missing pin be replaced promptly to ensure all machines are fully functional for members. Regarding the spray tan area, I found that the cleanliness could be improved. While the machine may clean itself, there were still missed spots that required human intervention for proper disinfection. Additionally, during my visit, I noticed that the trash was overflowing, and the availability of hair nets was lacking. Regular maintenance and attention to these details will help create a more hygienic and welcoming environment for members using the spray tan area. I hope that management takes these concerns into consideration and implements the necessary improvements. With these adjustments, Crunch Ypsilanti has the potential to be an outstanding gym that caters to the needs of all its members. The staff was nice! Maybe they need to hire more people to clean or retrain current staff.

Updating my review as I've been swimming with the masters swim team here now for ~2 years…read more I just have to commend the Health & Fitness Center for their upkeep of the facility. They're ALWAYS making improvements - whether it's adding it in a brand new cafe, or swapping out all the shampoo/conditioner/body wash dispensers and just keeping the place really clean - especially the pool! While they don't have digital sign up (I have to call and share my credit card information over the phone or just go in person....), they clearly do invest in their facilities and these details don't go unnoticed! Lastly, the staff is always so helpful and friendly here - even early morning at 5am!

When a friend recently invited myself and my colleague (the owner of the studio where I work) to participate in a private training session, we took advantage of it. We agreed that it was one of the best workouts we had done. We returned the following week to attend a group class. Having trained at Barwis on two occasions, to say that we were impressed is an understatement. We found a fitness facility that can supplement our martial arts training, and get us in amazing shape. First of all, the facility is clean and stocked with state-of-the-art fitness equipment. Weight machines, battle ropes, bands, hurdles, Swiss balls, boxes (for jumping), treadmills, slam balls...you name it, they have it. There is a turf field that runs the length of the facility; I believe it is 100 yards long, perhaps even longer. Second, the trainers are straightforward, encouraging, and knowledgeable. I found this to be true during both private and group sessions. Third, the workout is intense and results-yielding. I have never participated in an hour-long exercise regimen that hit all muscle groups. The soreness lasted for a few days, and short-term results were immediately noticeable. I am looking forward to the longer-term results! In short, Barwis is a state-of-the-art facility with top-notch instructors. If you want results, choose Barwis.
