Local restaurant on the town square with delicious Czech eats…read more The casual interior is charming with a single fresh flower and candle on every table. Plastic place mats, tavern themed art, and a rustic olde world feel. It's perfect for an area with uneven stone and brick roadways that are best enjoyed with sturdy shoes or boots. There is also an outdoor patio for al fresco dining when the weather permits. The meal was tasty but the starter bread was just okay. There were two types offered: soft rye and breadsticks. The breadsticks were as dry as a bone and I couldn't bring myself to taste one but the rye bread was soft and delicious. I would have preferred butter with the bread but it turned out that the rye bread was quite tasty on its own. The roasted rabbit with red and white cabbage was delicious and I would order this again. It was #42 on the menu and should have come with a "variety of dumplins" but since I also ordered a side of boiled potatoes, the server must have thought I wanted the potatoes *instead* of the dumplings. Not true. I wanted both! Anyway, the rabbit was perfectly roasted and seasoned. The cabbage was unlike any cabbage I've ever tasted. I actually ordered the side of boiled potatoes expecting some lame cabbage concoction to be staring back at me from my plate. Instead, I saw two thick, gravy-like preparations on my plate: one a rich purpley-red and the other creamy white. They were sweet and favorful and the perfect complement to the roasted rabbit. The svickova was delicious. The bread dumplings were soft and thick and the gravy was scrumptious. Service was just okay and although we spoke English since I hadn't yet downloaded my Google offline Czech translator, both servers did their best to speak to us in English. However, the menu includes 4 translations for every item which is extremely helpful. My one complaint would be my missing "variety of dumplins" and my missing server for nearly the entire meal. I wanted to ask about my dumplings but our server didn't return until we had finished our meals. Overall, I would say that the food was close to 4 stars but the service may have been lacking...possibly due to a language barrier. I'll take the service on the chin since I don't speak Czech and round the entire rating up to 4 stars.

I just realized that…read morethis is a number one restaurant in Brno, which isn't saying much because the city's not known for their culinary heritage. In the beginning when they were explaining the meat and the fish, they were very theatrical which seemed very rehearsed and amateur. We couldn't really hear the waiter, because some of us were already very chatty after coming from a local beer pub. We ordered some meat, fish, and added in the foie and other appetizers and side of vegetables. The veggies were actually the best part of the meal, and that's saying a lot, because I'm not much of a veggie eater! :) But then generally the produce in Europe is far superior to what we get in the States! Foie gras was seared to perfection, but the accoutrements were just mediocre. One of our fish we had was turbot, and this is one of the easier fish to debone. However, with every annoying bite of the fish, I had to pick out a bone! Absolutely unacceptable! The staff weren't particularly friendly, but this is typical of Czech so I wasn't too offended. LOL We were having a good time with our group so slow service was not too bothersome either. The bill came to $200 per person, which is not too bad IF the food was great. My hubby and I paid $200pp at Field Restaurant in Prague which's a Michelin star restaurant! This restaurant, for the service and the food, is definitely not worth the price!

Borgo Agnese...Wow...the Czech Republic at its very best!…read more In the Czech Republic, Brno is to Prague what Chicago is to NYC...the country's "second City" and home to 400,000 warm, friendly and hard working Eastern Europeans. Had a magnificent dinner with 7 members of our company's Czech team at what is arguably the premier restaurant in the city. It is said to rival the best Mediterranean cuisine anywhere in this country including its capital of Prague. After enjoying a flavorful local brew from Bruno's Starobrno Brewery, we tried a local white wine from the well-regarded Moravia wine making region. It was absolutely over the moon. Our group also enjoyed some delicious hot appetizers including a lobster-stuffed pasta, some golden brown sautéed St. Jacques scallops and a dynamite Duck Consommé Soup. For our entrees, we chose either a grilled plate of a variety of steaks or a fresh seafood medley including Tuna, Halibut, Sea Bass and Cod. This is where Borgo Agnese really hit its stride with some of the freshest seafood and juiciest beef we'd ever experienced. Look at those pics! Borgo's service by a courteous team of bow-tied servers was right on the mark as my wine glass never went unfilled. We finished with several delightful dessert samplers. Borgo Agnese earns the pinnacle of Yelp ratings on every level....wow, what a meal!
