As you enter the libray you see a giant sculputure of dolphins. Besides the great selection of items to check out the only caveat of this library is the grounds it is on could be nicer. Besides that the items here are top notch from new books to vegan cookbooks to travel books along w/ many other things. Happy browsing!

The walls are thin in the study rooms though, and when people started using the rooms in the afternoon, I could hear nearby conversations too clearly. The staff here is friendly. There was a couple good vegan cookbooks in the cooking section. Overall though didn't really find too many of the book selection that I was drawn to. I found the selection of CDs here a bit underwhelming. They did have more Jimmy Buffet albums than I have ever seen at a library anywhere. If you are into Jimmy Buffet go check out the Port St John Public Library as you won't be disappointed.

I will be honest and say I only discovered this museum because the huge park next to it has a bunch…read moreof geocaches. However, because of my hobby I discovered amazing places like this. According to their official website, the Brevard Veterans Memorial Center is as follows: "Since 1978 the Brevard Veterans Memorial Center and Council have taken on many missions to support over 70,000 Brevard Veterans and their families as well as to help all citizens and visitors learn firsthand about what U.S. veterans have contributed to make our country great." I cannot review how they support our veterans directly, but I can review the park and museum. Starting with the park, it is huge. It has a lot of space for patrons to get their running miles or walking steps in. There is a playground and greenhouse in the middle of the park so families with their kids could enjoy a time outside too. As mentioned earlier, geocaching is the reason I found this area and there are six geocaches hidden in the park. Next is the museum which includes the memorials, monuments, and replicas outside too. Loved the tank and helicopters and the monuments have excellent information that I did not know about certain wars in your country's short and young history. Back to geocaching, there is one Adventure Lab and the initial way point for a multicache in here. Also, there are way mark finds here too. Finally, the actual museum is three floors of U.S. military history starting with the Revolutionary War all the way to the War on Terror. I have learned so many details about each war besides weaponry, tactics, and such. I learned who the first female officer on a U.S. naval ship was. I learned the tantamount damage PTSD causes in war. I learned how uniforms have evolved. And so on and so forth. And to wrap things all up, there is a rare letterbox in here too. If you letterbox like I do, bring your letterbox journal, stamp, and ink pad. Overall, such a wonderful place to learn. I am so happy there are organizations keeping history alive because much of our young people do not know (and sadly don't care) about our U.S. history. I pray such a place will help such young generations to grow and mature that we don't repeat the mistakes other nations have in the past.

In front of the church is a marker that is part of the Florida Historical Marker Program, one of the Division of Historical Resources' most popular and valued public history programs. The markers raise awareness of Florida's cultural history while enhancing the enjoyment of historic sites for residents and tourists. The blue historic markers tell the stories of the people and places that were important to Florida's history and they can be found in front of schools, forts, roads, archaeological sites, battlefields, cemeteries, historic buildings, roads, and churches like this one. Historic marker F-568 was installed in 2006 by Cocoa Main Street, Brevard Historical Commission, Brevard County Tourist Development Council, and Florida Department of State. The Derby Street Chapel was dedicated on July 13, 1924 as a Seventh-day Adventist church. It was designed in the craftsman style of architecture and the original flooring, windows, altar rail, and tin tile roof still remain. The church was sold to First Church of Christ, Scientist, Cocoa, in 1955. In 1964, it became the First Baptist Church of Cocoa, which retains ownership. At one point the church was going to be torn down for a parking lot but local preservationists intervened to save it. Cocoa Mainstreet took over the property in 2003 and they hold a 25-year lease. Volunteers renovated the building to meet current accessibility standards. It can now be rented for weddings, memorials, and other small events. This church is so charming. it would have been a shame to lose such a wonderful part of Cocoa history. This is the perfect venue for a small wedding.

I discovered the Valencia Historic District near the Indian River Lagoon in Rockledge. Rockledge was founded in 1887 making it the oldest town in Brevard County. The homes in this neighborhood are very ornate and representative of the type of homes you would see in 1920's Florida. The neighborhood is very walkable or you can drive by. The Valencia Historic District is marked by the original entrance columns from the 1920's and a historic marker that is part of the Historical Marker Program, one of the Division of Historical Resources' most popular and valued public history programs. The markers raise awareness of Florida's cultural history while enhancing the enjoyment of historic sites for residents and tourists. The blue historic markers tell the stories of the people and places that were important to Florida's history and they can be found in front of schools, forts, roads, archaeological sites, battlefields, cemeteries, historic buildings, roads, churches, and historic districts like this one. Historic marker F-600 was installed in 2007 by Brevard County Historical Commission, The Brevard Heritage Council, The Brevard County Tourist Development Council and the Florida Department of State. The Valencia Homes Company was formed in 1924 by local businessmen C. Sweet Smith, Charles D. Smith, L. S. Andrews and Horace R. Bruen. The company acquired a 22-acre tract of land that was formerly the site of the Plaza Hotel and part of an orange grove. In March 1924 the company platted the subdivision and named it after the type of oranges that grew there, and for the Valencia region of Spain. The neighborhood had entry gates, a waterworks, paved roads, installed light posts, and tropical landscaping. Each lot was 25 feet wide and most buyers purchased at least two of them. Each sale agreement required that the homes must cost $4,000 or more and be in the Spanish, Moorish, Mediterranean, or Italian architectural design. Al of the homes were designed by Richard W. Rummell, Jr., who also designed many other buildings in Brevard County. All of the contributing homes to this historic district were built between 1924 and 1926 and there are 54 historic buildings. One of the most notable homes is the 1880 Queen Anne style home of H.S. Williams, now the Lawndale Museum on Rockledge Drive. All of the other homes in the neighborhood are private but you can tour the inside of this one with period furnishings for $10 on Saturday afternoons. The Valencia Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.
