I'm glad to finally be vocal about how she treats students now cuz someone needs to say something. She's rude, doesn't treat students like people, and is abusive. Mrs. Freitas was my first PE coach when I transferred there, and two years later, I joined her gymnastics team. She was such an amazing coach! So sad she retired after my year! Mr. Duer was my pre-calculus and calculus teacher. He taught very very well! I was able to understand everything. His practice tests helped A LOT. He always had ramen ready for his favorite students... and can't forget about the doughnuts! I had some pretty bad teachers as well including my trigonometry teacher who got fired/left. One time she made me slap myself just because I missed a question on the test. She also yelled at me one time for giggling during study time. Looking back at those times, I kind of want to giggle since it was years ago! She was such a bad teacher haha. The administration changed when I attended. Bob Moran was our new principal when I was in my junior year. He is great, and even signed my yearbook:) The one thing I did not like about the new administration was this: if we were even a second late getting to class from lunch break, we would be forced to go to a one hour detention after school. I had to go one time, but it wasn't a big deal since I used that time to do my homework. I had a lot of fun on the swim team, badminton team, and gymnastics team. Mostly everyone was nice. School spirit was high. I loved how the school gave free doughnuts to students who wore school spirit clothing on a specific day of the week. Spirit week was a BLAST. Senior week was sooo special and amazing! I will never forget the Waterworld picnic and senior cruise. Can't forget to mention the senior trip to Disneyland! What a dream come true! The school does a great job with school dances, especially prom. Junior and senior year prom were both so beautiful. Junior year prom was at the SF City Hall! So gorgeous! The school definitely needs an update though! They need new lockers for everyone! Especially full lockers for every single student. Sucks how freshmen only get a tiny box. They should replace the portables with a brand new building for lockers or classes. Overall, I'm happy I went to this high school. I made unforgettable memories here. I met some amazing people and made friendships that lasted. Last year, I even went to my best friend's wedding. She was the first friend I made at WHS. I definitely recommend this high school. The open campus lunches are amazing.

By how she looked at us, I see that we were being judged. A couple weeks goes by and our child is telling us that some of the staffs were talking to her as if she wasn't a human being. She'll come home, tell us about how they would say things that made me uncomfortable. Example: her presence was irritating them. I went up to the school one morning and told all the staffs and including the assistant principal that they better stop talking crazy to my child. Cause at home my children are disciplined. (Yes they get yelled at or talked to for their actions). There's so many times I've had to go up to the school to put these staffs in check. Wrong mama. My child doesn't like confrontations. If she feels like she's being disrespected, she's gonna let me know. There's a female (P.E) staff there that tried to twist my daughter's word when we had set a meeting up. I wanted to know what happened. There was an incident that took place with another student. This staff was a "mediator". As we were in the room, I let my daughter speak, the lady staff tried to interrupt my daughter. I told her to let my child speak. I didn't like the fact that she tried to justify what she told me and then tell my daughter different. What I won't allow is for an adult to interrupt my child when she is advocating for herself while l'm in her presence. There are a few staff that I've grown to like. If I had the chance to pull my child out and do homeschool, I would. We send our children to school to these staff(s) to teach and watch over them. Not for them to treat our children like sh!t. I don't have a problem going up to the school and give them my 2 cents. They need to work better on their attitudes... cause it stinks like sewage water.

Most of the teachers are either wayyyy too strict, rude and mean, or don't teach properly. I know a lot of people complain about the Pagans but I had Mr. Pagan for eight grade US History and as long as you followed his (kind of ridiculous) rules, the class was pretty interesting (he was really funny at times). His wife was a jerk, though. The administrators and office staff, on the other hand, are a hot mess. They don't care about the kids and there have been several incidents where they've been racist to kids and teachers. I don't really understand why you would choose to work with kids if you don't like them.....? A lot of the teachers had weird rumors about them as well (especially a certain PE teacher). If you have to attend Thornton, good luck. Grit your teeth and get through it. If you're a parent reading this, please support your kid. They're reallyyy gonna need it.

Students of the following 6 Elementary Schools, Ardenwood, Forest Park, Warwick, Brookvale, Oliveira, & Patterson Elementary attend Thornton Junior High, and then finally they attend American. I started my education career at Ardenwood Elementary, then Thornton, and finally American High. First off even though the spirit of the school is lacking, it is still fun and enjoyable if you make it that way! Spirit Week for the students is one huge celebration each class celebrates for one week where their entire class creates cardboard props and put them inside/around the Rotunda to display them to everyone to see. Every year there's a different theme for each class, such as a different type of television show, board game, Disney theme, etc. During lunch, that week, each class gives a presentation/skit about their theme and try to prove their class is the best and has the most spirit!! One of the other popular events is RUSH Week, which is one week in September when clubs advertise themselves in the Rotunda during lunch. It's a time for you to learn more about all the different clubs on campus and join the ones that interest you. American High has about like 59 various different clubs for you to join. Another event would be Battle of the Boulevards, which is a Football game battle between us Eagles and our rival Huskies! The reason it's called Battle of the Boulevard, is because both American and Washington are located on Fremont Blvd, were both schools are trying to claim Fremont Blvd! (You're probably thinking, but what's so good about Fremont Blvd!? Nothing really, it's just the glory of owning it I suppose.) There are rallies at the school as well where on various Friday's, where after 6th period most of the students tend to go inside the school gymnasium and watch other fellow American High students perform dances, acts, skits, to show off their talent! If your son or daughter does not want to go inside and enjoy the rally, they have another option to stay inside the cafeteria and just hang out there with their friends. There are lots of other main events such as battle of the sexes week where each gender battles against the other in events, Eagle Nation Week, Staff Appreciation Week, International Week, and many more! Now onto the Academic side of American High. American offers many different course offerings for students to take. For Foreign Language, American offers, Mandarin, Spanish, French, and American Sign Language (ASL). Elective courses include, Architecture, Sculpture, Art, Studio Art, Photography, Web Design, Weight Training, Team Sports, Drama, Band, Choir, Guitar, Creative Writing, Public Speaking, Leadership, AVID, Parenting and Family Living, Filipino Heritage Studies, Psychology, Engineering, Law Enforcement & Administration of Justice (ROP), Marketing (ROP), Business Ownership (ROP), Culinary Arts (ROP) and many more! You also have your general courses, for Math, English, History, and of course Science. Their system has heavy restrictions on who can take what classes; the teachers there are incredibly tough, and some are to the core, rude. Horrible infrastructure there as well, and the school lunch is so trash. I went here for 9th and 10th grade, and I did not like a single bit of my time there. The assistant principal back then (Mrs. Pelayo and Mrs. Sharma are very tough and rude). Some of the students here are mean, and they clown you. If you are considering moving to Fremont, please avoid going to this high school. Please go to Washington, Irvington, or James Logan (Union City).

Additionally, we know how great of a school FCS is since my husband is a FCS Alumni and I was a substitute Teacher at the school for a year a while back. We thought that we would give public school a try, to save some money, and if we didn't like it or it didn't work out for our kids, we would re-evaluate our options.  This year when schools transitioned to distanced learning, due to COVID, our worlds were turned upside down, along with the rest of the world.  Our kids were struggling not being in the classroom and not being able to socialize with children their age, so when we heard that FCS was bringing back kids safely on campus we jumped on the opportunity to transfer them and have never once regretted that decision!  The Teachers, Principal and Staff at FCS have been AMAZING to say the least.  When we drove on campus to drop the kids off to school on their "first day" we immediately felt that our kids would be well taken care of, which was not a confident feeling for us at our previous school. The organization, care and seamless process to get the kids safely on and off of campus puts our minds at ease.  The Teachers do a wonderful job with communication and my kids immediately loved their new school and look forward to Chapel every week, which was also not an option at our previous school.  We appreciate and love our new FCS home and are so glad we transferred our kids to this school when we did. Thank you FCS!

As the years progressed and I came to find out it isn't as good as I thought it was. Elementary school was okay because there wasn't an old lady bossing all the kids around blowing her whistle. There is an old lady who goes around handing out detentions left and right for the most unreasonable reasons. Another thing was, one of the kids was on her phone after school texting her parents and then that lady came up to her and gave her a detention. This same lady also dress codes people on the slightest things. The rest of my class and I agree that she only dress codes girls. She sees that part of someone's shoulder is being shows and runs over to them and dress codes them. Does she not know that that is the style now and not everyone dresses like a nun? You also can't wear shorts that aren't 3 inches above the knee. This is the stupidest dress code ever. For the good reasons, they're some amazing teachers. My kid really enjoyed math and said she learned a lot. He also said that he really enjoyed English in his 6th grade hyear because of the teacher. We later found out a few years ago they fired that same teacher. This school would improve a lot if they just got that old lady with white hair out of the school. Out of the things I heard and saw, she does nothing but yell at kids and complain that there is too much trash on the floor. Fire her and you will have less people leave and more people come.

Coming into this school, I believed what people told me; that this school was filled with gangs, that the students didn't care about college, the teachers didn't care, and that it's overall a bad environment for a student. Now that I am a student here, my view has entirely changed. The students here are working on changing what the public thinks of Kennedy. In the future Kennedy will be a college going school. To be frank, there are people who dress like gangsters, but in reality they act like any other high school student. The AVID program at Kennedy is spearheading the college going culture thanks to Mr. Dave Williams. Kennedy is currently the only AVID certified school in FUSD. For those who don't know what AVID is, it is a program that is designed to give students the tools and the mind thought to get students into Four-year Universities. http://www.tricityvoice.com/articlefiledisplay.php?issue=2011-05-31&file=AVID+++TCV.txt Currently, the Class of 2012 AVID Class has 71 College Acceptances split between 15 students. Not bad. Many of the teachers at Kennedy truly care for the students and they actually want the students to succeed. The only problem is the students' work ethic. Many of the students are smart, but generally very lazy. If parents were more involved in their own child's life, it would better their education, and overall make Kennedy a better place for education. For the time that I've been here, I've felt very safe. It's a very family-like atmosphere here at Kennedy, there are no cliques at all. Everyone is friends with each other. The only downside at Kennedy is that the school is so poor and we do not get enough funding. We are so technologically behind here at Kennedy that it's funny. I really hope that in the future when I have kids, that Kennedy will be rebuilt/remodeled. The school is extremely old and fragile. Overall, I would not hesitate to send any child to this school. You truly have to experience it yourself in the end.

It was…read morethe first school I went to where I realized that coasting on pure talent wasn't enough (and I had plenty of that, but I only need to watch how my cousins were doing in school to figure out much of a difference the environment makes). If it weren't for the sheer amount of peer pressure to do well and excel, I would have never bothered to work hard to excel and would probably be competing with high school graduates for burger-flipping jobs. I learned a really important concept while in high school: academic learning is an abstraction for success. While other reviewers complain that the narrow focus on academic excellence was technically useless, it prepared me to minimize-maximize my priorities for success. By re-abstracting the real, working world as a bunch of test-taking and BSing, it's helped me on my race towards the top. Mission is a great example of a Tiger Mother school, and I'd say that beating the excellence out of me worked wonders. It's a trial by fire, and I've suffered more than my share of breakdowns during my low points here, but overall, no pressure, no diamonds (Thanks Mr. Greene for the quote). If I weren't here, I'd just be dinosaur poop. Highlights: -Academic Challenge club (Without it, I would never be indirectly mentioned in the #National_Olympiads section in the Mission San Jose High School wiki) -Teachers: Chaney-Aiello, Geers, Geschke, Lindsey, Greene, Richards, Jaeger, Ishimine, especially Payette and Howell, you have all been the best teachers I know. Hopefully one day I will be able to pass on the light that you all have passed onto me. -Peers. I'm not going to name names, but without people to chase, I would never have started running in the first place. Let's keep trying to outcompete each in greatness in the years to come. HA AH! you can yelp high schools now, amazing…read more Anyways I went to Mission San Jose High School since my freshmen year and graduated year of 06, this school is constantly known as one of the top high schools and ...it is true if you look at test results etc.. after all after the new SATs were out the first time it was given 3 out of the 4 people who got full score were from our school. This school is mainly composed of ... you guessed it! asians!! and no just like the famous Russel Peters said asians are not just Chinese, there are many koreas and indians as well. I had a great experience at this school but there are a few down falls. First the administration does not very closely monitor how teachers work, but then again I don't think other schools do as well, but some teachers are just ... I want to say F****** Retarded, no names now but my junior year English teacher Mr. _____(his last name was a color so take a wild guess) was a fruit basket with bananas on top, he thought he was the smartest man ever and his grading was extremely unfair. Also my sophomore year English teacher was the weirdest man ever, he spent one class telling the whole class how we're stupid and not going to succeed in life, interesting to say the least.. Also many other English teachers I didn't have I also heard some pretty bad things about. Actually now that I think about it only the English department had some issues, so MSJ needs to up their game in that area. Secondly, the cafeteria staff wasn't friendly at all, the asian lady who works there seems like she always has her pants pulled up too high or something, always rude to everyone and never said you're welcome when we said thank you. But I had some very good experiences as well, the leadership teacher/ activities coordinator was very good and fun to work with Mr. B! and our principal was pretty cool as well. The majority of the teachers were good but there are a few bad eggs that ruin the basket. It's too bad. FINALLY, I must finish saying, that the cupertino high schools yes LYNBOOK, Monta Vista, etc.. you guys need an update on test scores, I'm so sick of those chinese parents over there telling their kids that they high school is the best etc etc.. that was 10 years ago, check the scores now we're on a whole other level ahead of you guys, I'm so sick of being in college and having those cupertino kids think they are so much smarter than us, REALITY CHECK TIME!!!
