I did not want my son to repeat "4 year old " school. St. David's also has an outdoor program called "K-Wild" which is an outdoor school 2 days a week before his regular school. Literally you would dress the kids for the climate and they would be outside. With both of these options I knew that St. David would be a perfect fit. Last year I had both kids at St. David's and quickly realized I found my place. This is my 3rd preschool I have attended and by far the most warm, loving and nurturing. The community at St. David's is amazing. My only wish is that I had started there earlier. That extra year was the best decision ever and if you are ever on the fence about doing it....DO IT. I believe the environment and teachers she previously had in Kindergarten made a big difference in her confidence, her ability to work well with others and her personality overall. I can confidently say if the Goddard School had a 1st grade program we would have kept her in the same school. She puts in the time and effort into each child individually based on the child's needs. For us, Guidepost Montessori is the place to be and look no further if you are searching for the Montessori environment for your child and if your child is less than 3 years old, you cannot go wrong with Ms Nosheen's class, however, we know that all teachers are great because our son loves all the teachers he interacts with. We recently moved to the Broadlands area from out of state. While we were still in out of state,…read morewe began our search for a preschool for my 4-year-old daughter and a before/after school program for my older son. This was very stressful since we did not know the area here very well. I called many schools in the area for pricing and to learn more about their programs. When I called the Merit School of Broadlands, I got to speak with the Director, Caitlin, who was not only able to tell me all about the programs at Merit and answer my many questions, she also shared with me important information about the Broadlands community and the Northern VA area. The fact that she took the time to discuss this with me, not even knowing if I was going to enroll my children, demonstrates a genuine kindness and customer service that I was really impressed with. When I was able to finally tour the school with my 4-year-old daughter, I was impressed with how the Assistant Director, Jessica, was so warm and welcoming towards her. She introduced her to the teacher and let her spend some time in the classroom while I went on the tour. In the front lobby/office area there are large TV screens that show what is happening in the classrooms. It is great for parents who just want to check in on their child without disturbing them. During this tour, I got to see how my daughter was adjusting and interacting with the other students by watching her on the monitors rather than hovering over her. I also really appreciated the security of the building. Each family has a unique code to enter the facility, so outsiders cannot just walk in. In addition, I liked how the school is new and everything was very clean. They also have an amazing playground, which is definitely a bonus for the kids! After touring the Junior Kindergarten classroom, the School Age classroom, and learning more about the curriculum and extracurriculars, I decided to enroll both of my children. My children have now been at the Merit School of Broadlands for about 2 months and we are very pleased with our decision. My youngest is in the full day JK class and she loves it! We are very pleased with how much she has learned in the short time she has been there. She's even learned some Spanish! She comes home happy every day. I also get updates and pictures throughout the day of what the class is learning and pictures of my daughter engaged in different activities or play. It gives me peace of mind to know that she is in good hands. The Before/After School Program is amazing for working parents. My son is able to ride the Merit bus to his elementary school and it picks him up in the afternoon. I also get updates of when he leaves on the bus to go to school and when he arrives back at Merit in the afternoon. My son feels so grown up in the school age room with lockers and computers to use. When the kids get there they have snack, homework time, and outside time. In addition, the Merit School offers other activities for the children. Both of my children have been able to participate in field trips. They have spirit weeks and family events to promote a sense of community. They even host Parent's Night Out events which is wonderful for parents and super fun for our kids. Most recently, they hosted a Scholastic Book Fair for the students. The Merit School of Broadlands has been great for our family and has helped to make the transition to Virginia an easy one for our children.

At first, things looked promising. My son was excelling--he even was advanced to Kindergarten early, which made me proud and reassured that I had made the right choice. However, that changed quickly. When challenges arose, the school showed little flexibility or empathy. I was dealing with a custody/support battle, that was financially bearing . I made them aware of 4 months in advance instead of working with me when I provided a solution , I often felt pressured and dismissed. The school director, was especially pushy in her communication and didn't provide a POC beyond herself for escalations. Rather than collaborating with me as a parent doing her best, I was met with rigid policies and a lack of understanding about the realities I face as a working single mom. She looked me face a brought me a withdrawal form, which she asked me to complete. Ultimately, my son was removed from the program because his account was consistently behind one week of payment ($535) for about 5 weeks. The payment plan I proposed--though honored and paid the month of April as I communicated--did not align with the school's internal preferences. Despite my efforts to be transparent and proactive, I was repeatedly met with threats of legal action and communication that felt more like gaslighting than genuine support. I felt constantly pressured, which added unnecessary emotional stress to an already difficult situation. I was left scrambling to find alternative care while juggling full-time work responsibilities. The entire experience was not only disheartening, but did not align with the values of family partnership and compassion.

Her teachers have been incredibly caring and dedicated to her safety and growth. She looks forward to seeing her teachers and friends each morning and the pictures show how much she enjoys each day's activities and events. The speed with which she is learning is a testament to both her teachers and the Primrose curriculum. The staff are also fantastic - responsive to every question or concern we have raised and always approachable. The facility is very clean and fixtures are in good shape, considering how much they are used by little kids day in and day out. We always feel good about dropping off our daughter, which is (to me) the highest praise for a daycare.
