I was not successful at Center For Change at the higher levels of care and ultimately decided to go to Eating Recovery Center in Chicago, where I finally found success recovering from my Eating Disorder. That said, I live in Utah, and I now have my outpatient team with Center For Change and attend a weekly outpatient open process group here. The meal plan style here is Intuitive Eating, and while I believe that style is absolutely crucial when people are in advanced stages of recovery, but it didn't work well for me when I was deep in my Eating Disorder and I think it's why so many patients here are stuck at the same level of treatment for months and months. It was so much better for me to have a meal plan very loosely based on exchanges, but still helping to educate me on what a normalized meal looks like. I'll say that the cafeteria food must have vastly improved since the 2015 reviewers, because it's the best food I've ever had in treatment anywhere. The cooks are kind and will laugh with you. The food really is fantastic for cafeteria-style grub. Two of the three therapists I've had here are great, and I'm convinced the one I'm seeing now is the best therapist (Eating Disorder or otherwise) in Utah. Really, really solid. For some reason, people here don't seem to have the difficulties with insurance that I and others have experienced in other treatment centers. Perhaps Center For Change's rates are lower? I don't know, but if you have a finicky insurance provider, CFC might be the place for you. read more

I wish I could give zero stars. Today is April 16th. I was admitted on April 9th after being told I was approved for 100 days. Today I was told it was a mistake and insurance isn't paying. It's Friday and they said they would be discharging me on Monday. I have no one to pick me up on Monday and it would have to be Sunday. That was initially a problem because no one is in on Sundays. That was a they problem not a me problem. They also took $1750 from me which was my copay and insist on keeping it because they are "eating" the rest. They wouldn't be absorbing any costs if they had done their job right. read more

This place sucks, my sister came here for help and it just made her worse she could hardly ever get sleep and she started losing weight very fast and made her worse then before she went in. I Do NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. They don't even let her flush the toilet herself and they make her naked to weigh her instead of just putting on a robe that would hardly change her weight on the scale. When she slept they shined a light in her face to check blood pressure or something so she told us she felt like she was going insane. They wouldn't let us bring phones in to FaceTime someone if they couldn't make it and they said it was for "privacy reasons I just don't recommend this place to anyone read more

This center absolutely changed my sister's life. You definitely have to trust the process, but the therapists and nurses are amazing. I admitted to CFC underweight & unwillingly for the most part. I discharged CFC 80+ pounds heavier, miserable, anti-social, and very insecure. I also was able to finally find freedom from the ed brain and deadly ed behaviors (binging/purging/etc.) Highly recommend having someone on the outside monitor your weight and ensure you stay within a healthy range if you go - nurses/dietitians don't. CFC had saved my life multiple times over the last 15+ years. I've received services inpatient, day patient, and outpatient. Like any medical facility, you can expect that it will cost an industry-comparable rate - we are in the US after all. What you get for that price however, is a chance to get back up on your feet with new tools, nutritionally and medically stabilized, and with a chance to try again. I never felt judged for returning when I needed a higher level of care. I appreciated the myriad of groups and therapies. The food has improved over the years because the staff takes feedback and incorporates it. From therapy dogs to outings, trained providers to meeting individual needs, I'm grateful to the Center for helping me discover myself again. read more

PLEASE please listen to me, DO NOT GO HERE. I cannot stress this enough! I'm not saying to not get help, in fact please do, but not from here. Everything I'm about to say isn't an exaggeration. I have PTSD from this place and I was only there a week! I have nightmares and panic attacks even a year later. They restricted most people from going outside with any valid reason, some they had a valid reason for but for most they didn't. I didn't feel the sun on my skin or breathe fresh air for a whole week. You won't be allowed to leave. It is a prison. You can only get out by keeping your head down and saying nothing. You cannot contact your family or the outside world. IF by small chance they let you, they tell you not to say anything bad about it. So if you need to get out, you can't get any help from the outside. They keep you exhausted with their back to back activities, more than half of which have nothing to do with eating disorders. ACTUAL PRISONERS HAVE MORE RIGHTS than the people who attend inpatient. Which they recommended anyone to regardless of whether or not they actually need that level of care. They will tell you that you're in inpatient because of health problems, but they cannot give you an answer for what those health problems are. After talking to other patients, they were ALL recommended for inpatient regardless of what level of care they were at. If you do have any serious medical issues not related to eating disorders they will not allow you the things you need to manage them. They say that they don't punish you for not eating everything, and I mean everything including rotten fruit, but they force you to supplement anything you don't eat no matter how small and if you don't, you spend 3 hrs in a room by yourself with absolutely nothing else. If you refuse 3 times they force a feeding tube regardless of whether or not you actually need it. They control your water intake, and if what they give you isn't enough to hydrate you they'll give you a feeding tube. They will put you in danger. This is the stuff horror movies are made of. Please listen to me... don't go here. Again I'm not saying to not get help, just.. never from here. read more

Saved my daughters life!!! Literally!!! I sent her in with a safe word because I was scared to turn her over to people I don't know. I asked her if she was okay using the safe word we selected. She smiled, rolled her eyes a bit, and told me to stop bugging the nurses. They are the best! The entire staff treats me so good. Stop calling and asking so many questions. They are doing a great job! She loves everybody there and said she is treated with dignity and respect while being held accountable to making healthy changes. I didn't want to send her there but I am so grateful we did. It was a long wait but the results have been worth every second. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to the entire team especially Sydney and Katie. Our experience has been incredible and successful up to this point. I especially appreciate the classes guiding us parents and caregivers to a better way to help our loved ones. Our experience here has been life changing, not only for our daughter, but for us as her parents. We have learned so much about intuitive eating and how to challenge today's unrealistic portrayal of body image. Our daughter is a type 1 diabetic and received amazing support from a team of diabetes specialists in addition to receiving care for her eating disorder. Another big plus for us was weekly family therapy sessions via zoom. I would definitely recommend this facility for those struggling with an eating disorder. read more

I had some poor experiences with specific staff members not treating residents fairly - allowing other residents to put the respectful residents in dangerous and triggering situations, but the majority of the staff was very helpful and seemed to care. When I did arrive at the Center, they didn't give me my patient binder for 4 days - I had to go and ask staff for it. Once they gave it to me, half of the pages (including the phasing up paperwork) was missing, so they had to provide me with a new binder but wouldn't have if i didn't ask. I had some experiences with staff members forcing residents to eat fermenting fruit. I am extremely grateful to Center For Change for helping me to weight restore, and am extremely thankful to Nicole Hawkins for being so open and honest throughout Body Image Group, instead of sugar coating the truths of eating disorders. Overall, I would recommend Center For Change to those struggling with eating disorders, but hope that they can fix the consistency among staff members and not allow their staff to play favorites. read more

I received racist And discriminating treatment. The Program kept trying to justify and excuse their behavior instead of apologizing and trying to mend the relationship in a healthy way. I was luckily able to recover regardless. I received treatment at Alsana. Alsana is such an amazing program who really care about their clients and well being. Alsana has a personal chef and amaZing bedrooms to help you feel at home. I highly recommend I have been to a lot of treatments and Alsana was the first in years to help actually recover!!!! read more

NOT trained in OCD anorexia. I wasn't officially diagnosed with OCD yet, but the symptoms I was talking about were clearly from that. My therapist wouldn't listen when I said that the germs disgusted me and I was worried it wasn't healthy and that's why I wasn't eating. She KEPT insisting I had body image issues. When I said I didn't, she would persist and she even admitted she wrote it on my chart. She would point out things I should be self conscious about. She also took issue with my mom and most appointments were just her trying to turn me against her. My mom has flaws sure, but her response wasn't warranted, and she was very childish about it. She would complain about my mom and try to get me do the same. I got worse as a result of going here. I was in the outpatient program where I went once a week but the therapist tried to get me to be inpatient, and I felt wrong about it so I said no. I'm so grateful I did. I went to a better therapist, got diagnosed with severe OCD, and went to the OCD and Anxiety Treatment Center (bountiful or south Jordan) where I recovered to "mild" and now can eat. I'm not certain which therapist I saw but if I remember right it was Julie. Horrible experience if you have OCD driven anorexia or anything besides body image reasons. I liked the nurses and other staff well enough, but truly got worse here. read more

My daughter's therapist recommended she be admitted here for treatment of anorexia/bulimia. She was there nine days, which was much shorter than they wanted her to be there for. Midway through her stay it was Father's Day and my husband's birthday and they advised no visitors. We didn't care, we insisted on visiting with her because that was what was best for our dear daughter. We all feel her treatment here was more shocking than helpful. They never told me dietician services would not be billed to our insurance, which it covers. They wouldn't give me a reason, which I find suspicious. Nine months after her discharge and with consistent therapy and dietician services and improving, they insisted that she needed more intensive therapy and needed to be admitted. This was at the height of the pandemic and I refused. I truly felt they were simply trying to meet a quota and not do what was best for my daughter. They tried to guilt me into having her admitted, not gonna work on this mother bear. In some ways, I feel this institution did more damage than good and I can't recommend this facility. read more

was a patient here for two months and got consequences that consisted of sitting at a table in the corner and not talking multiple times. some of the staff members are amazing but others are extremely disrespectful. my mental stability went downhill while my health got better but a healthy body does not = a healthy mind. read more

I am alive and thriving because of Center for Change. Five yrs ago I was a mess. I had horrible eating habits, I hated every single thing about myself. I hated being alive. I was hopeless and felt completely worthless. I am so happy that I hit my lowest point and it led me here. I went into care 3 times over a 3 year period. Every time I was there I felt more safe than I ever did before in my life. I felt at home. I felt cared about. In this environment I was able to heal. I was able to love myself enough to get out of my very damaging marriage. I was able to grow confidence. I was able to no longer hate myself and start to really like myself. I no longer feel like a failure. I love life. I'm healthy. And I'm happy. Center for change has wonderful therapists and dietitians, they have great group therapies, everyday is so therapeutic that it does get so draining. They take lots of time having you try different activities so you can get to know yourself so you can know what you enjoy and what you don't. It's so hard to explain how much my life has been changed and bettered for coming here. I don't think I would be alive today if it wasn't for Center for Change. read more

Let me say first and foremost, if you have a family member suffering SEVERELY from anorexia, bulimia, or other eating disorder and their health is in serious jeopardy, please do them a favor and send them here. However, if you are not extremely sick or underweight, or you are mainly a binge eater don't go near this insurance money hungry place. I went here electively to confront binge eating disorder/ednos I have been struggling with for years. Was hopeful the experience would be hard, but really help me change my behaviors and state of mind. Instead, it just messed with me more and I got out of shape and unhealthy. You come in first through inpatient where your basically watched over like a hawk 24/7. They take your vitals three times a day, your stuck inside one room, and you are served three meals and three snacks which you have to finish 100 percent of. If you don't, you have to drink boost. This in itself is not weird...except the food tastes like absolute shit and the combinations hey serve you are disgusting. Examples of pukalicious meals I had there included popcorn with gummy worms, cottage cheese and peaches, and this weird pork slab that I could barely get down let alone cut apart. The dietitians and therapists don't listen to anything you have to say or dietary preferences. You have no choice in what you eat at all. Neither do they cater to food allergies. I'm slightly lactose intolerant and begged my dietician to let me drink soy milk instead of guzzling down jars of milk they include. Who the hell drinks a tall glass of milk at every meal anyways? A) gross and B) most adults don't digest that stuff well with an eating disorder or not. They also force so much sugar and dessert crap in you. I mean... I get like a slice of cake here and there or some chocolate. Some people have severe fear foods and they need to practice eating them, but it's like sugar and dessert overload at every meal and it made my stomach upset. If you need to gain, you need to gain, that's when you put some extra avocados in salad or some more butters/nuts/oils in people's food. Not a bunch of cheap sugary crap. The Therapy sessions are overload...like..all you do is talk about feelings and the eating disorder constantly. They try to brainwash you and want you to believe exercise is bad unless it's dancing like a weirdo around a room or relaxing stuff like yoga. God forbid weightlifting or running is anything you should ever do again if you want to be "recovered" They are also really gender centric "female" which pissed me off and made it hard for me to get anything out of it...I.e if your gay/masculine/ identify as transgender don't even bother...the amount of estrogen in the room at all times stinks to high heaven and there's no skills I really learned that were productive in the time I was there. As far as whether they make you gain weight or not...their not going to make you "fat" or "chubby" however, the "goal weights" they do calculate for you are not really representative of what your body normally would be...how can it be when your not moving at all and your eating excess calories on a regular basis? What they do is basically push you up to your "high" end normal weight.. I can guarantee no one stays there when they get out. My body looked like shit and I felt super ugly after the whole thing..mostly cause I didn't realize how atrophied everything was and because I wasn't allowed to look in a mirror for the entire 5 weeks I was there. As a binge eater the regular meals helped me get the nutrition I needed, but don't provide any sort of "practice" with eating appropriately. I can't binge if people are feeding me portioned out foods...so it wasn't really helpful to my issues with eating either. Save your self and go to monteniedo or reasons. Unless you want to be treated like a 5 year old the entire time your in treatment. Ugh. read more

I do not feel this place deserves the 1 star. The devices they billed for and what was actually received were not the same. When we confronted them about this billing issue they said it didn't matter and we still needed to pay it. Needless to say we stopped going to them and paid them an extra 1000 for stiff that we didn't even get. The therapist that was seen was complete garbage and would not do anything but then would bill us for more than was given. Such a poor attitude towards bljng issues and the therapist acted as if nothing g mattered not offered any advice, support of therapy go work though anything. read more

ive been contemplating making this review for the past several years now. i went here in 2014, i was 14 and struggling deeply with anorexia. id like to note, i was socially but not medically transitioned to male, but my family still stuck me in a female facility. this was not my choice. the staff was extremely transphobic and treated me like i was a danger to other patients. they did not help my eating disorder at all, they never got to the root of the cause and instead spent the entire time treating me like i was dangerous and not focusing on helping me with my eating disorder. if i could give this facility zero stars, i would, however i did make many lifelong friends here. they put me on prozac even though i'm bipolar and schizophrenic and it gave me a psychotic episode that caused me to self harm and they told me i was only doing it for attention. they stuck me on "caution" where you're not allowed to talk to anyone, including the staff unless you have to use the bathroom. you sit in a room by yourself in complete silence all day and sleep in a room with the lights on and two people watching you. this is completely unethical. they kicked me out, not fully weight restored or recovered at all for false sex allegations with zero proof or witnesses. and now, many years later, and on several occasions, they refuse to give me my records because "they might be triggering". refusing medical records is illegal. my therapist got them and there were tons of unethical and illegal things written in my notes. I went to center for change July of 2017 I worked my butt off and did everything I could to get healthy, a few days before I was leaving my fiancé came to see me and one of the techs told my fiancé they would see me in a few months cause they didn't want me to leave, here I am a year later 100 percent healthy and 40 lbs heavier. The part that upset me the most was that the first day I got there they did a drug test and I tested positive for suboxone they acted towards me as if I was a drug addict lying about what I had taken and after I finally convinced them I did take it they blamed my fiancé for slipping it to me, it really put a strain on my relationship because my fiancé is an ex addict clean for 2 years... well I recently got a bill from the hospital that I was at two days before I went to the center and in my bill it showed that I was given suboxone at the hospital, I'm really upset they wouldn't look at my medical records and just assumed I was lying read more

If you're going thinking you can get a hang of intuitive eating good luck. If you have AMAZING insurance maybe. You won't get to that point for months and most insurance companies won't even cover long enough. The food is like cafeteria food, kind of nasty. The portions are unmeasured, sometimes I'd see the kitchen staff randomly adding extra and they're always in a shitty mood. Try your best to avoid supplement because they also don't measure that. I'd get different amounts for the same thing. They serve a lot of empty calories.. They use desserts and milkshakes for weight gain. You rarely get to make phone calls (30 minutes per week). Their is a huge lack of organization. Orders never get put in the computer, sometimes I didn't even get my vitamins. There's hundreds of patients and not enough staff.. I'm lactose intolerant as well as no gallbladder so I can't eat salad greens or very high fat foods. I was sick everyday, sometimes with dumping syndrome. My dietitian blatantly refused to give me soymilk or change the salads or ridiculously fatty foods so I had to go home. I went there really wanting help and left extremely angry AND sick to my stomach. Don't go there if you have severe digestive issues, go to remuda ranch. read more
