There are two distinct sides to this school, one being amazing and the other being…read moreless-than-desirable. As a teacher who worked at Pinellas Secondary School, the workplace environment was very positive. The principal and assistant principal are marvelous people. It shocked me how close I got to them and how comfortable I was with them. This is usually not the case at most schools, as principals feel the need to assert distance between them and the teaching staff as an eye roll-worthy attempt to maintain some semblance of a pseudo-hierarchy. It was the total opposite here: Mr. Hammond and Mrs. Ramdohr were very approachable, kind, helpful, and caring. The staff in general is exceedingly familial here. Employment at PSS truly felt like working alongside a community of friendly neighbors. The students are another story. I'd say parents absolutely should NOT send their children here, but they really don't have much of a choice if their child committed a serious violation. The HS students are usually pretty well-behaved and polite, since they want to transition back to their original school. The middle schoolers on the other hand are the worst children I've ever seen in my entire adult life. Not only are the hideously immature, but they are toxically hateful to boot. They fight nearly every single day, they do not respect authority at all, they steal without a second thought, and they populate 3/4 of the school. As a teacher considering working here, I'd say do yourself a favor and refuse to teach the middle schoolers. INSIST on teaching high school and you'll probably love your job. All in all, I'd absolutely come back and work at Pinellas Secondary School, provided I got to choose which students I worked with.

This school has been a big part of our lives and thankful my kids got to be a part of it.

Indian Rocks Christian School is a place I once had tremendous respect for, but my experience with…read morethe school and its leadership has completely changed that. Under Chris Hobbs's leadership, I have witnessed things that have left me questioning how an institution that claims to represent Christ can treat people the way it does. The hypocrisy is difficult to ignore. It is one thing to preach Christian values to students; it is another thing entirely to demonstrate those values when dealing with people behind closed doors. My family dedicated decades of our lives to Indian Rocks. I attended the school, taught there for seven years, and watched my family invest years of service into the community. We believed in the school and what it stood for. What happened along the way revealed a side of the institution that I never expected to see. I have serious concerns about Chris Hobbs's leadership and the way people who have devoted their lives to this school have been treated. In my experience, the handling of these situations demonstrated a disturbing lack of compassion, loyalty, and accountability toward the very people who helped build the community the school benefits from today. What I find especially troubling is the use of Christianity as the foundation of the school's public identity while the actions of its leadership, as I experienced them, have fallen so painfully short of the standards it claims to uphold. You cannot preach grace, integrity, humility, and Christlike leadership while ignoring the importance of those same principles when dealing with people behind closed doors. A Christian title does not automatically make someone a Christlike leader. A position of authority does not excuse cruelty, and a school's reputation should never be more important than the people who have devoted their lives to it. The damage caused when leadership breaks trust is real. People are not disposable simply because they become inconvenient, disagree with leadership, or no longer fit someone's agenda. The emotional toll on the people affected and their families does not disappear just because an institution continues operating as usual on the outside. Indian Rocks may continue to present itself as a respected Christian school, but I believe prospective families and employees deserve to look beyond the polished image and ask hard questions about its leadership and internal culture. It is heartbreaking to watch a place that once meant so much to my family become associated with so much hurt and disillusionment. I never imagined I would feel this way about a school that was such a significant part of my life. The greatest concern is not simply that people can make mistakes. It is what happens when those in positions of authority fail to demonstrate the humility, compassion, and accountability they expect others to practice. No institution should be above scrutiny, and no leader should be shielded from criticism simply because they invoke the name of Christ. Christianity should never be used as a public image while the people behind that image are left to deal with the consequences of leadership decisions that have devastated their trust.
