They also have a roadside egg stand in the summer. They are open by appointment and event only; check their website for details. There is a beautiful barn which could be rented for special events. The owners Amy and Steve were super nice and helpful. My family and I went on Black Friday to purchase a pre-cut tree for $80. Currently, their trees are just babies and growing. They had two types of pre-cut trees to choose from; there were a few to choose from but we found the perfect tree! They had a vendor onsite making spiked hot chocolate, espresso martini, and various others. The interior of the barn was cozy with plenty of seating. There were plenty of items you can purchase in there, such as soap, honey, ornaments, etc. We got to pet the animals on the farm right outside, my children loved it. They also hosts events such as candle and ornament making, to name a couple. Overall, a lovely place to visit for events, purchase a Christmas tree, and even pet some farm animals!

A school house, another home, and probate building were brought to this location later on. They offer tours, special events, and workshops. They're open from Thursday to Saturday from 12-4. My family and I enjoyed walking through the property and seeing the old buildings and artifacts. There was a replica of a native American wig-wam which was really cool to walk inside of. I love history and old buildings so it was fun seeing the old school house and historic single homes. The tavern had a beautiful garden in the backyard. There were plenty of parking and we look forward to going back and taking a tour.

"Don't know much about history" (Sam Cooke)…read more Simsbury is an old town, I mean a really old town. It goes back to 1670. And it's very fitting that such an old town has a historical society to display and preserve its three and a half centuries of history. The Simsbury Historical Society is "a non-profit educational corporation" that was founded in 1911. The complex includes over a dozen structures, and the museum has regional artifacts, archives and collections on the state's earliest settlements. As expected, they do focus on the town's founding and early history. It's a very interesting place to visit and walk the grounds, check out the Native American structures and visit the museum store. That store was hosting a Holiday Market today.

"Dashing through the snow in a one horse open sleigh"…read more Do you know that the original title of the song we know today as Jingle Bells was "The One Horse Open Sleigh?" Yup, it was written in 1857 and it's original purpose was lost to history. Some say it was written for a Sunday School choir, others say it was a drinking song. So, take your pick. You'll see a bunch of beautifully painted one-horse open sleighs along Hopmeadow Street as part of the Simsbury Sleigh Trail. The sleighs all date back to the mid-1800's and are part of a Simsbury Historical Society's winter program to refurbish these aging antiques, and sponsor the painting of decorative murals on the sleds by local artists. The artists worked within the theme of "Winter Scenes" and were to illustrate life in the 1850's. Many of the sleighs were rotting away in old barns and their owners welcomed the opportunity to donate them. There was a lot of rodent and insect and deterioration damage to renovate before they were ready for the artist's palette and paintbrush. The sleds have gorgeous color paintings of landscapes, a bobcat, a fox, bears, horses, an owl, a cardinal, villages, farms, local landmarks, a snowman, and children sledding. The detail is amazing, and the colors are gorgeous. What a nice way to honor the past and add some splashes of color and creativity to our lives! (Word of warning -the exhibit closes at the end of February)
